  1. tell me , you say the bitch is now sold. a pm would have been nice...did anyone get a pm. Why would he want to send loads of PM's to all that PM'd him when one post on here does the same job............. Do you expect a letter back from Santa too?
  2. Would you like to elaborate on that?
  3. I just couldn't be arsed reading through all the pages of what was surely arguments between people, I got to page 4 then thought f**k it just reply to the original question
  4. IMO usually the lamp is only ever on the quarry, saying that dependeing on how tight your beam is (or isn't) the dog may get a face full of light.... BUT.... the dog is looking straight at the quarry in front of it whereas the quarry is only looking for an escape route! Even running direct towards the beam the dog would surely see the arse end of the quarry before the light? I don't know this for sure because I'm not a dog but it would make sense? Another thing is that for me it depends what you run in the beam, for instance Rabbits, Hares and Deer are all prey species, thats why there eye
  5. Looks like a tidy bit of work that.
  6. how old is your wheaton cross Nell ? any pics ? I will try and get a few up later on, I don't actually own the dog, although I do spent quite a lot of time with it when it come to taking it out etc, introducing it to it's first taste of quarry etc, basically to make sure it gets entered in the right way more than anything. I originally spent time tracking down the "right sort of dog" for a young lad to get a decent start in the world of running dogs, this lad only ever comes out with me and wanted a decent dog after he had a little difficulty with his first attempt at bringing a
  7. Got one here thats fawn, all of the litter were fawn and so were both parents. The sire was a 3/8 5/8 and the mother was a first cross. The majority I have seen are fawn, but to be honest Lucky yours was the first other colour I have actually seen, although I have heard of different colours, some of them were not true Wheaten crosses, they had a bit of bull in them.
  8. KEEPS - Love the action shots but that last pic of yours is a beauty!!
  9. Bit too far for me, otherwise I would have jumped at the offer Very nice of you to put the offer out though!
  10. Frosty...... I wouldn't have risked my dog to be honest.
  11. I know what you mean Ditch, there are some places around this particular pig farm, where trapping would have more success than the dogs. But with it being a 140 mile round trip, I just simply could not check them every day and the farmer is just too busy.
  12. Excellent, you guys down under are lucky with the vast amount of wonderful birds you have in the wild, I am a particular fan of some of your native finches, the Diamond Firetail being one of my favourites! :ok:
  13. Ditch, I have read this thread and fully understand these so called "rules" you have outlined. As the post says, that is a pic just to show an example of how big the rats on this particular pig farm are, I am not talking about the odd one here and the odd one there, almost every rat we catch here is of a similar size, so to me this is just the norm! This is just the only one I have on camera with any sort of item to measure it against, I just thought I would pop it up for those who were interested and to be honest, there hasn't been a rat in any pic with a body longer than a foot (no pu
  14. I could do with a new 4x4..... But will probably have to make do with the usual, Boxer Short, Socks and Aftershave !!
  15. BBB, no mate, they were more closer the the east coast.
  16. That bottom pic is a belter!! Nice looking animal.
  17. I couldn't tell you mate without measuring it first, I bought it from from a fieldsports shop from the paper about 2 years ago, the one on the right of the pic is better for the size of the mesh as this can hold even baby rats, however I seem to catch more in the one on the left If you have a look at the pic, there is a mark on the rats head, just above its eyes this is where it must have been pushing against the mesh for a number of hours, and with one massive push it managed to fit it's head through and couldn't get it back in. I can only guess that it strangled itself by throwing itsel
  18. At last I have managed to put a few pics up!! I only have this one on film, caught earlier this year, no tape measure though, but it was probably this outing that brought this whole thread about!! Just one example of the rats on a pig farm we do. I am a size 10 shoe which measures approx 12 1/2 inch, straightened up this rat would have measured more, then there is the tail!
  19. A decent night with all of the traps being triggered!!! 3 more out of the way!!
  20. I have had some strange ones too! One that pushed its head through the mesh on the trap and choked to death!!! And also a ginger one!!!!
  21. I have had over 30 in the last month or so out of the bottom of my yard, behind me is an old mill/industrial units with plenty of cover on the embankments for the little B******ds, I have 3 traps set permanently. For the first 12 nights I had set the traps I had caught no fewer then 28 rats and then had nothing for ages now just had the odd one, so must have cut them down!! What is more bizare is that I only noticed them due to finding one dead in my dog pen! So can only guess they are passing through for food etc as there no holes which i can find and no other signs of them at all, beleiv
  22. Haven't got many pics of him to be honest, not much of a photographer!
  23. Here is mine, bitsa lurcher really with a high % of whippet in him, knocking on abit now at 7 but still regularly take fox, not as sharp as he used to be mind, but this can only be expected!
