You sure ? 6 hens laying every day would only give you 42 eggs . i thought that..... hmmmm 50+ eggs a week from 6 birds is 9 eggs each a week................would have to see it with my own eyes to believe it. Especially being a purebred fow too rather than a hybrid.

Fine if you are skint or tight, but they are called 'spent hens' for a reason. Good advise there. Modern hybrids will lay 300-350 eggs each year with little or no fuss. They don't cost much to buy and are very cost effective to keep. Exactly matey, thats why the commercial egg producers use them, excellent food to egg ratio. You'll not beat these as layers.

You sure ? 6 hens laying every day would only give you 42 eggs . i am 100% sure i bought them point of lay last year an i were getting 50+ eggs each week last summer . . . . its a load of bulloks that 1 hen can only lay 1 egg a day i assure you . . . I know quail are capable of such things but yet to see a chicken do it..........unless they are in artificial conditions.

If its just laying you want then leave the pure breeds alone, go for one of the hybrids. The hybrids will give you 300+ eggs per year.........a lot more than the purebreeds will. Most hybrid hens in full lay will give around 6 eggs a week.

I wouldn't bother, it says a lot about a man and his birds if he has to sell his eggs on ebay.

You'd get more than £100 in scrap I'd imagine.

If you are going to candle them you can clearly see at 7 days whether they are fertile or not (with lighter eggs it can be done at 5 days). The biggest danger is holding the egg on the candler too long, this can damage the embryo-unless you're using one of the 'posh' cool lume jobbies. You can candle an egg in a split second once you know what your looking for.

The commercial hatcheries all candle their eggs...................and they require optimum results.

It was a Jackdaw matey, we had him through the summer and Autumn and he was very tame but as the winter came he started distanceing himself from us.........he then took up sleeping in a neighbours conifer tree rather than the shed. He stayed in our street til the following year but although quite steady around people he would fly off when they got too close. I'd say the folowing Spring he disappeared but not sure whether he'd died or moved on.

Anyone who registers their puppies can adverise on the kc website, hardly a credential that promotes a good breeder or breeding. Even the accredited breeder scheme is based on answers sent in by the applicant. If I were looking for a puppy of any description, it would be me doing the research and leg work rather than trust the kc,epupz etc...........there is an old saying that always rings true - a good dog is where you find it. Don't listen to the biased arguments of the for/against kc brigades, use a route that satisfies you to find your puppy and buy one that you are happy with rather than
