For a four year old to come home with an unidentified fungi in her bag does not say a lot about the Elf and safety at the school.. TC

It seems the almost perfect answer is relocation, that if done correctly almost always works. However, relocation does not answer the question of why the original hares died out. It is almost certain that the same will happen with the relocated hares. Find the cause of the decline in the original population and fix that. There are many reasons for a decline of hares in an area, mostly I would say it's Silage cutting as it kills the leverets. Unkeepered ground, the decline of the lapwing all contribute to the decline of the hare. That is without the pressures put on them by a man and his dog.

That is totally different to end of year hare shoots. What you have said no doubt goes on but it is to get rid of the hares not manage them. TC

It's pest control plain and simple, have a look at the numbers shot each year, they will fluctuate but they keep the same numbers roughly of hares shot every year. If it did not work they would not have to do it every year. Land can only support a given number of hares before it is to the detriment of the hare. The same estates have been having hare shoots for a long time and every year there is a surplice that they cull. Keeps the hares healthy, (well those that live that is) and plenty of room for this years crop to grow. It is no coincidence that the hares are on highly keepered est

I come up with ideas all the time and if 1% work I am a happy man. But that is how we learn by trial and error, and the person who has not made a cock-up has not made anything. TC

That is one of the reasons Rob's works are art more than taxidermy. It's his attention to details such as you have said, the body language on his pieces ring true, his imagination knows no bounds! It has to be said though, he pulls off some really life like pieces far better than I have seen elsewhere, personally I think where he leads others will try and follow. TC

Pickling Eggs (Vinegar Ratio)
Tiercel replied to kanny's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
One thing I always do though is sterilise the jars thoroughly I put the jars and the lids in my large cawl pan and boil for at least 5 minutes. You can also put them in an oven to sterilise them. TC -
Pickling Eggs (Vinegar Ratio)

It's the same in our house, no sooner have I made them, it's always are they ready yet? I like large onions with a bit of bite, she likes silver skins with a bit of sugar added to the mix. TC -
Pickling Eggs (Vinegar Ratio)

Try and find a proper greengrocer mate, they normally sell pickling vinny by the half gallon, and it already has a bit of flavouring in it, just add your own spices to your taste. I generally add a heaped teaspoon of sugar as well. What ever you do, do not use the stuff that comes in plastic cans. It is not vinegar, it's Non brewed condiment which is synthetic vinegar and does not have the properties of spirit or malt vinegar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-brewed_condiment TC -

Go for it, you could even add beetroot and make pink eggs. If you do a google there are literally dozens of different recipes for pickled eggs. TC
