  1. One place I would go to have a net hand made that is The Net Loft Or Pm mole catcher same place. TC
  2. 6" square of plywood with a rope through the centre, dug in about 18" 2ft. Dig them in from the low water mark on high tides all the way up the beach that way no matter what the tide range is you will always be able to set a line. TC
  3. This is the place to go. The net loft. All the advice you need and no hard sell. TC
  4. There will be a display of how to set traditional long nets at the show. TC
  5. Maty, I am one of the most impatiant persons you are likely to meet. There is a good trick when It comes to making long nets. Before you have had enough put it away and forget about it for a couple of days. Dont make a big deal about finishing the net just say to yourself I am going to knit a yard of net and thats it. I get days where I cannot do a row as I don't feel like it, other days I will do twelve yards. It really is suprising how quick they come together. The hardest part I find is the last 5 yards. The way I look at it any time spent knitting a net is better than watching Cor
  6. I would be intrested to know what you call fast? I make a 4' 10 12 14 < 16 by 14 > 14 12 10 purse net in about 35 minutes but will take a month to make a 50yd long net. Speed has nothing to do with it. Its all in the mind if you want to make a net you will, no matter how long it takes. TC
  7. I have made 3 x 50yd and 1 x 25yd nets this year so far. I used a 20/6 100% spun polyester totaly rot proof and you can use a single knot with it. The twine cost £20 for a 1.5 kilo ball 2 of them will make 200yds of stretched netting ie 2 x 50yd double strand nets so that works out @ £20 a net for the body of the net plus one 250gram 20/16 spun polyester for the selvage and the running lines, plus the cost of the dye £4 altogether you are talking about £35 a net to make. Twine is available through the net loft. If you use hemp the twine alone would cost at a guess around £60 to £70 m
  8. Tying in the meshes will not help you to set out the net any better. And it does have it's disadvatages. Where it does help is in picking up the net, as you do not have to reset the bagging as with running slack. If you do tie the meshes in only tie on one line only. It does not matter if its the head line or the foot line and use a whip finsh knot to tie them in. It does help if you leave long ends on the whip finish and use two pliers to pull the knot so that it bites into the running line. When meshes run over it they then slide off just as easy with no snagging. TC
  9. Ahh get you now! But the answer is no it's not Bow Street. It's Felinfoel, where the beer is made. TC
  10. Sorry do not understand?
  11. I received Martins book on Monday. As I have been netting for over 20 years, I thought that it would be good to give my opinion of the book from an experienced netters point of view. My first impression when I opened my parcel was that of pleasant surprise at the quality of the book. When I heard that it was coming out in paperback, I had visions of a Mills and Boon type of cover and low quality paper inside. How wrong was I! The cover is laminated and the quality of the paper inside is equal to any hardback book costing nearly twice the price. The layout of the book is excellent, in t
  12. What a beautiful fish. If you compare that fish with a stocked rainbow, there is no competition, the trout from the brook wins every time. Well done. TC
  13. Also as an Alpha, the rest of the pack take their cue from you. If you are aggressive they will be aggressive. If you are calm they will be calm. That is assuming that you do have a pack structure with your dogs and within that structure you actually are the Alpha male. TC
  14. I have just put the three new nets that I have knitted out of double stranded 20/6 spun polyester, on to lines then on to the end pins. All I have to do now is splice the running lines and they are ready to go next winter. The net ready to be threaded on to the lines. Threaded on the lines and ready to be evened out along the lines. First one done and a few pegs put on to help with the picking up. All three done and ready for picking up. Nets lifted on to the end pins and ready for splicing. TC
  15. I read this article a little over a year ago, makes for some intresting reading. Vasectomised Hobs - are they all they are cut up to be?! Some disturbing news has come to light on the subject of vasectomised hobs. Firstly, it seems that there is sometimes a little confusion about the differences between a vasectomised hob and a castrated hob, and what this means for an owner and any other ferrets in the family. Secondly, it may be that using a vasectomised hob on an in-season jill is not a totally reliable method of avoiding unwanted litters, as a number of readers have reported thi
  16. Just Pm mole catcher he will give you all the details. TC
  17. Do you really think so? TC take the piss mate i dont mind i only get better when people think im shit at stuff Lamps, The "do you really think so" was not aimed at you, but at the person who likes threatening people and calling them names. PS: I have given you good advice, but on a tidy forum. Oh and get young lamps to enter that comp. TC
  18. At last some one who knows what he is talking about. Sound advice tommo
  19. cheers mc its the best fish ever caught in the history of pike fishing, the same fish was caught 14 months before at 33 lb so its done some munching Would I be right in saying that the fish (if female) would be full of eggs right now? Perhaps that would also account for the weight gain, in that 14 months ago, would make it around the end of January 2008 ( eggs not yet developed) when the fish was caught last. For a fish to gain that much weight in just over a year is, well, unbelievable really. TC
  20. A bit of sense being used there in the training. TC
  21. I do have a couple of photos of mine on point. Pointing or marking a rabbit warren This is a dog I lost to lungworm last year, again marking a rabbit warren. TC
  22. The one thing someone new to netting needs is success. 10z is great for purse net but useless for long nets. If your net does not pick up twigs bracken etc; how the hell do you expect it to catch rabbits? Personally I do not mind cleaning a net after a drop, to me it’s part and parcel of long netting. When I do have to clean a net, I then know that I have made the most of whatever chances I had at catching the rabbits that were available to me. TC
  23. Used to use wasp grubs for trout in my youth. Till I got stung all over, from then on it was back to worms.
