Forget the WHC. As a new member you would not get to go on any good field meets. I would recommend The hawking Club. They are based not far from you in Church Village All members new and old are welcomed to field meets they hold meetings once a month in a pub in Church village. Contact can be made though Adrian Williams TEL/FAX: 01443 206333 Email: adewilliams@saqnet.co.uk The members there are all working class people who are not up their own arse. Hope this helps. TC

I found some sloes today out of a mile long hedge there were two bushes that had sloes on the rest were empty. TC

gollum, I have never tried the lift net method, to be honest I have never known anyone who has heard of it. However, that said I really applaud your quest to find out if it will work. Off the top of my head I can think of several possible reasons why it will not work. Some of the reasons pertain to the actual mechanics of raising 50 yards of net simultaneously, but my biggest concern is the willingness of the rabbits to pass over the net. As you well know a good killing net will need 100% bagging, slack, kill what ever you wish to call it. When the net is then laid flat that slack wil

It is I have to agree with you. How can anyone read through an hour and a halfs of crap and only come to the conclusion at the end is, "Truly unbelievable"! TC

I am not against ferrets as pets, it can only serve to enhance the profile of the ferret. Lets be fair the ferrets reputation over the last 50 years or so has suffered at the hands of well meaning but misinformed people. The much maligned characters that are the little stinker or what ever name you wish to call them. Have suffered from a catalogue of old wives tales, most of which are not true. I think we all can agree on that? However, I cannot condone the breeding of genetically deformed ferrets as a separate breed, ie Angora ferrets, Pandas etc these variations of ferrets while possible

Erm, because they are mutated in a way that's not natural, or healthy? MalT I think you will find that they are natural, as they were bred from ferrets. This is possible to happen in the wild, highly unlikely , but still possible. However, that said it does not make it right. To inbreed those ferrets with such a small gene pool is, in my honest opinion asking for trouble at the least. At the worst is nothing short of criminal. TC

Then I tip my hat to you. TC

For the Sake of The Ferrets in the UK , I most certainaly would! But would you pay to get a suspect ferret tested in the first place? TC

I have followed this thread with intrest. (Not of the sit and watch if a fight breaks out kind of intrest) Just the courious as to where it will end up type of intrest. This thread has made me do some research in to Waardenburgs, from what I have read there are ferrets that show classic symptoms of Waardenburgs syndrome in this country and they all seem to stem from the breeding of BEW, Silvers or any other colour mutation. Of course just because a ferret has one of the many symptoms of Waardenburgs it does not mean that the ferret has the syndrome, from what I can gather there are fo

Good result there! what you need to do now is go and have a look at the place and make your plans for winter. Check how you can approach the set without winding the rabbits from a lot of different wind directions. That will help you no end in the winter when you start netting the place. TC

Get in touch with molecatcher at The net loft he will sort you out with a kit at resonable prices and the after sales service is second to none. TC

Has to be Teal. But having said that, I like most game, Pigeon and Partridge come a very close second. Although I cannot get to grips with Woodcock or Munty, although the wife loves those two. I have never tasted Red but out of the deer I think Fallow has to be the best that I have tasted. TC -
Here is how to make a whip finsh knot. To make it easier to see I have used a thicker twine than I would normally use. Step one. Lay a pencil or pen alongside the running line, then offer the twine that you are going to use along side them. Step two. make 3 or 4 turns around the pencil, twine and the running line. Step three. Pull out the pensil and thread the twine through the loops you now have on the running lines. Step four. Simply pull the two end of the twine tight into the running lines. Step five. Trim the ends that stick out of the knot as close

The problem with tying in bagging is the you have to have smooth knot so that the selveage does not get caught up in the knot, and when they go over the knot they can slide off just as easy. The only knot I have found that meets the requirements is a three turn whip finish knot pulled as tight as possible into the running lines. ( I use pliers to pull the knot tight ) When the knot is pulled tight it bites in to the running line and becomes the same diameter as the running line. That allows the selveges to run over it with minimal snagging. TC

If you are going out on a charter, you will be going with Pete Nic. One of the best skippers in the Bristol Channel. If he cannot find the fish they are not there. Simples. As you are fishing in October get some fishfags in, as the bass will be in big shoals then feeding on whiting. You can also try Kosters and large Tobys. Just change the hooks over take the trebles off and put a 1/0 Aberdeen on. Better still is get some live sandeels Pete will sort them out for you just ask before the day. TC

Personalities apart, what this thread is really about is most of the peolpe who own the dogs. It's the Ive got to have the best, hound, lurcher, terrier or even bloody ferrets mentality. They feel that if they do not catch the most, best, biggest or even the oddest, then they have no braggin rights. In a way I feel sorry for them, because they are fools to themselves. They are loosing out on a partnership with a dog because basically they are too bloody thick to see the wood for the trees. So what if the dog only catches 2% of what it chases, it makes that 2% a lot sweeter. Im my opi

It seems, I have picked up an admirer on here, he loves leaving little messages on my profile, he even sends me pm's He pretends to hate me but I know he secretly wants to be me. So as a special treat to him I have decided to leave all his comments in place, instead of deleting them. That should make him a happy man. TC
