Smithie, I will send max some caps I have his address and it would be a shame to bust open the parcel. They fit on the glass poles really well. TC

A few questions for the more experienced snerpers
Tiercel replied to Minshaws73's topic in Longnetting
The reason for the lines needing to be free flowing through the end pins is, when pegging up you use more line on the head line than on the foot line. When you peg the net down you use a single turn on the foot line and a clove hitch on the head line. But, in turn if you did not have the lines free running through the end pins over a couple of drops it would put the net out of sync if the lines were tied onto the end pins and not allowed to ajust themselves as they do with the free running lines. As for the rest fat ferret and smithie are spot on. TC -
Or you could start it off on a purse net ring, then cut the ring off when the net is complete. All you will lose is one row of mesh. TC

You can keep Blacks for a few days by keeping them in trays of fresh sea water. The water only needs to be about the depth of the lug and do not put too many lug in the tray. Change the water every 12 hours. If they still burst throw them in sawdust with salt mixed in with it, to take up most of the moisture. Then wrap them idividually in cling film and pop them in the freezer they will be good for a year. But if they have goner off when you open them, use them for flounders they love manky balcks. TC

Perhaps because all that needed to be said had been said? And the thread was going nowhere but down hill fast? TC

Nice looking bitch and what you say is true of collie crosses. Good advert for the breeder of such crosses though. TC

If you are on the level, which I doubt. I am sorry that you lost your dog and that is genuine. However, there was no going back from the time you let it run and "play" with sheep, before the time it killed it's first lamb. The time to act was then, any time after and it was just too late. Hitting a dog will not stop it chasing sheep, the only way to stop them is, never let them start. TC

Am I the only one who thinks this thread has a funny smell to it? Some things just do not add up, just all too convient. TC

Not exactly a pedigree as there was an eigth G/H in him but 21" TTS Best night 27 rabbits and two hares. Would average twenty rabbits a night without sweating. Having said that there were rabbits about then, I would be hard pushed to get that amount in a year these days. Photo is a scan of one taken in 1983 he was 5 then. TC

This is the method I use for hazel pegs. On the bottom line you wrap the line around the peg once. On the top line you make a clove hitch. You make the clove hitch like in the next three very poor photos. Make your first loop and make sure that the line that is in your hand is on the under side of the loop Next while still keeping tension on the loop create another loop in you hand, then pass it over the top of the peg. You now have a clove hitch around the peg and that will not slip down the peg. Don't put too much tension on the foot line

Lovely shots of the GSW, the first place I come when I log on is in this forum. A lot of the bird shots are of spieces that we do not have in this area, (or I have just not seen). The photography with most of the contributers is second to none, please keep up the good work. TC

What type of poles are you using? GRP or Hazel? Is the net pre set or traditional? TC

It's not the dog, it's him he does not have a clue. What did he think the dog was going to do when he eventually caught a sheep? In the hands of someone who knows what they are doing the dog may have come good but with him it has no chance. TC Listen Barbara Woodhouse if you knew so much about training dogs you would know that a sheep worrying dog can be cured What part of the quote in bold did you not understand. I know that some dogs can be cured, in experienced hands. But, he does not have the experience. The dog is just too strong for him and as he has lost the battle to kee

How can anybody be so f*****g idiotic?! Shoot a dog for one mistake. Sensible people have given good advice on this thread mate, just ignore this couple of spastics. Would you be giving that advice if it was on your permission that his dog killed the sheep on? He obviously has not told the farmer that his dog has killed the lamb or offered to pay for it. So who is the farmer going to blame? Listen sonny, I have forgotton more about training dogs than you will ever learn. The advice is good because as sure as eggs are aggs that dog will kill again. Just read what he has to

Whilst I admire your sentiment Ethyl. The time for sentiment has passed, what is needed is cold hard facts. People come on a forum and ask advice and it always seems to be after the fact. Would it not be better if people took the time to learn how to prevent such events taking place in the first place? Obviously, he has not a clue on how to stock break a dog. But, instead of asking for advice he just takes the dog out and once it had chased the sheep, he let it off the lead to chase them again with the consequence of the lamb being killed. I was always taught that you are responsible for

He has been told how to remedy the problem he caused with the dog. A one way trip to the vets. Lets hope that his next dog will not end up in the same situation. If he cannot accept that it is he and he alone that has caused the problem then he should think carefully if working dogs are for him. TC

Think we should be able to shoot stupid arrogant wankers too? Dont shoot the dog ffs its not even 10 months old yet could have been the other dog that weighed in first if you didnt see the whole thing unfold try a shockl collar and a hard line back to basics on every little thing.Dont let the dog away with anything and make sure it knows your the boss no arguements no debating it. First things first. I have never spoken to you, and as some one who has to keep their dog muzzeled around strangers. I do not think that you are in a position to call people wankers. Lets get one thing

Shoot it! Then it will never chase kill a sheep again. Passing it on to a pet home will not stop it killing sheep. TC

That was not an attack on you, just an observation that, one week you were asking for long netting photos, the next you were telling people how to long net. There are a lot of articles and books written about long netting by people who have never set a net in their lives. Once you have been netting for a number of years you will be able to spot them the same as anyone who has the relevant experience. A lot of what is written is rhetoric and not to be believed. If you want to learn how to set a net properly then as has been stated, buy Martin Kings book Long Netting From Peg To Peg. Martin

I don't see that as a problem, more of a symptem. When someone asks for photos of long netting, then starts telling people how to long net, somehow the sums do not add up. Especially when all they churn out is 'get a compass it works for me.' To be honest with you, I think you have never set a net in your short life. Nothing wrong with that. But, just do not try and bullsh!t your way on a forum where there are people who have been involed in fieldsports in all it's guises for 50 years plus. It just will not work, all you are doing is makeing your self look a fool. TC

Smithie, There's thems that know and there's them that just have not a clue. TC
