  1. That is because the price of netting has gone up 50% in the last two months. You might be lucky and find someone with old stock, but I would not hold your breathe. TC
  2. I have to agree some of the wildlife photos in this section are, for the want of a proper testimony, Brilliant. There are a couple of contributors that spend a lot of time and energy just to get that 'shot'. To them I say, "Thank you very much" with your efforts, you make a lot of people very happy TC
  3. No More with an opinion, so I will throw this into the mix. What would you say if I said that pre set nets have been used for at least the last 350 years? TC
  4. There seems to be some confusion as what a quick-set and a pre-set net is? Shall we say for the sake of agument that a pre-set is a quick-set without the basket? IMHO a quick or pre-set net without the poles is just a sheet of net. For it to be a traditional net it would need to be on endpins and the running line sewn or spliced into a continuous loop. TC
  5. This is not a question about which is the better system as you may think. Rather what came first? We are led to believe that the pre-set net is a pretty modern invention, but, is it? Or has it just been reinvented? I have my own thought on this, but I would like to hear some of yours. TC
  6. Apologies Leeview I did not mean it to sound as if you had stated that his nets were superior. I was talking in general as I have seen it stated on here that is nets are the best. That is why they are priced as they are. Once again my apologies. TC

Simon you have a pm. TC
  8. First off, there is nothing wrong with making a profit. If you chose to premium price you products well thats up to you. You know when you price your product that you are alianating a vast majority of possible buyers. All it means in real terms is that you do less work for the same money. That said, his price for a sheet of 6z 4.25" mesh with lines is pretty competative. Although the lines are polypropylene and they are rubbish I will not use them on my nets. We buy our lines from the same place and I know that they tried to sell me polypropylene lines as that is 'what all the people who make
  9. He just paid for a brand new item to be delivered, Not a damaged one. FFS he deserves what he has paid good money for. TC
  10. I think you are mistaken there! I have nets here in 4z that get used every year that are over 20 years old. All be it they are full of patches where they have been bitten through, but there again they catch rabbits. TC
  11. Any one who recommends 6z in 4" mesh does not know what they are talking about. To be blunt they have not a clue. To be honest, any one who sells 6z in 4" is ripping the buyer off. Nylon stretches, 4z stretches more than 6z . A 4" mesh is too small for a twine that does not stretch. 4z will stretch enough for a rabbit to get it's head through 6z will not that is why they bounce off the 6z. TC
  12. He had a life that was far better than most rescue dogs. It is always sad when you lose one. But, there are plenty of dogs in rescues that would really love to take his place. And perhaps give you the same service that he did. TC
  13. How do you want to smoke them hot or cold? For hot smoking an old gas barbque works well just put the shavings / sawdust in a metal container on top of the burners and place your fish on a rack and close the lid. Cold smoking you have to pipe the smoke in so it is not hot, a lot more difficult. TC
  14. I don't normally read the running dog section, for obvious reasons. But I must say I think Kev has behaved impeccably though this thread, even when goaded he has not lost his temper. He has proven he is a gambling man and win or lose it is just a bet to him. Lose.... and he pays up with a smile and asks for a rematch. Wins....well we will see! Good on you Kev. TC
  15. As has been said, you learn as you go along. I prefer foot in hole and spread the net to open the meshes over the hole. Theory behind that is, rabbits stands on net and meshes it,s head as it bolts. But, as has been stated it does not always work like that. There are a few rules that need following though, always keep your drawstring tight, if you drawstrings are long tie a knot about 3 to 6 inches from the ring then you can place the peg infront of the knot if needs be., carry a pack of toothpicks in your pocket, to be used as prickers, they can hold up a net or even the ring in hard places.
  16. This is how bull shitters baffle brains! The ones with the brains know it's possible, but highly unlikely. TC
