  1. Just a thought, but does not the pro rabbit catcher have to be a Jack of all trades? Dare I suggest that perhaps the other half of the old saying may well come into play? TC
  2. 5" full mesh would be a 2.5" square mesh.meshes are measured by the length of the mesh stretched. /\ \/ ..... you measure the mesh from the top knot to the bottom knot. a square meshed net is measured |_| along it's sides. TC
  3. It would make me think that the dog had the makings of a brilliant long netters dog. One that would chase the rabbits into the net but leave them alone when they are in the net. A dog like that would be worth a lot of money. TC
  4. I like it. ,,,,,,,,,, To be honest it is slow, but there again it does not have the bickering that seems to plauge this site. Most of the people on there do not see their dog as a penis extention. The ethos of the site is pretty simple treat people with respect whether they be a beginner, or an old hand. It does have it's limitations as you can only talk rabbits, there again what else would you expect from a site named Rabbiters. Like all sites, it cannot cater for every one, if your into motor bikes the site is not for you. One of the best bits about it is, the keyboard warriers eithe
  5. Oh thats right we did didn't we. :tongue2:
  6. Well done England!! Best game of the weekend without a doubt. There were mistakes on each side but without these mistakes rugby would be really boring. As has been stated above if the top knobs with the emphasis on "knobs" at the RFU get rid of lancaster for the likes of Mallet who will have England playing like Italy were back when he was in charge. This team plays for each other they have a great work ethic, and even though they have only been together for a few games you can see it working. Great game. TC
  7. I am wondering is it just me? I thought Wales were very contained today, apart from the 11 and 14 no one seemed to want to do what was needed in the game. 12 and 13 were anonymus for the first 40 and Jamies break apart, did not do a lot in the second half. Was this a ploy to save the injuries? The only time Wales played with an intensity was when they were defending. Saving themselves for next week? Perhaps? TC
  8. Love the Willow tit? or is it a Marsh tit? Never seen one around here. TC
  9. Wales have averaged 36 points each time they have played Italy at home if you consider that there is a 18 - 18 draw in those figures it gives you something to go on. To be honest I think it will be pretty close Wales by 10 would be my guess. But if the Italian backs tire in the last quarter it could be a cricket score. TC
  10. Coyotehunter, It does have an optical zoom 10x what ever that means the specs are here, http://cameras.co.uk/specs/fuji-finepix-s5600.cfm no doubt you will be able to understand them it's all gobblygoog to me. TC
  11. Paulus, I was using a 200 ISO setting with a f4 aperture for those photos. I can change the ISO setting between 64 and 1600 and shot in A. aperture priority. As for the rest of your post, sorry I have not a clue it's all double dutch to me. I am a real novice who does not know anything that has not been explained in this forum. TC
  12. I would like to take some decent photos, unfortunately a good camera is not an option at the moment. I have a fuji S5600 and it does have most of the features that DSLR's have, well apart from the lens that is. With it being only 5mp it has it's obvious limitations. For example as I zoom in with digital zoom the pictures get very grainy. That said, I followed the advice given to Paulus by Romany and my pictures did improve. Enough waffling, what I would like to know is there any chance of me getting better photos with this camera than the ones I am taking at the moment? Here are a few of m
  13. England played a great game and certainly stopped wales from playing. If the RFU (for that read Rob Andrews) use their head, this time next year they should have a team that is where Wales are at the moment. But, will they? Thats the question. Lancaster has a natural talent, lets hope he can get to use it. It can only be for the good of rugby overall. TC
  14. You could also try Penderyn res, ask anyone in the Glan in Hirwaun and they will put you on the right track, or ask for Fudge when you go in. He knows all the ins and outs. TC
  15. You must know the same chap as me. He also told me that he saw a king rat leading other rats to saftey during a flood. And he saw a fox swiming with a piece of lambswool in it's mouth to deflea it's self. Honest. YEH, and the princess kissed a frog and I have not seen you father since, and thats another fairy story!!!!! TC
  16. This is where a lot of people get confused. You have a 2.125 inch mesh board. that gives you a row, It takes two rows to make a mesh. The size of your mesh is 4.25 inches. A net needs to be around 60 inches deep when the meshes are stretched. With a 4.25 mesh that would be 14 x 4.25 = 59.5 inches stretched depth so that would be 13 meshes and two selvedge rows of 2.125 inches. TC
  17. Just a guess but could it have been an otter? They do travel overland and do eat flesh other than fish. The rabbit has had it's backbone severed that would indicate an animal with powerfull jaws, mink possibly but I would think that is beyond a polecat or simular sized animal. TC
  18. Without a shadow of a doubt 4z is the better catcher of rabbits. As regards to the amount of slack in a net also erroneously known as bagging. If a net is shall we say 20 yards long fully rigged. Then there is with 50% slack 30 stretched yards of netting in the net. However, if a net is 20 yards rigged with 100% slack then there are 40 yards of stretched netting in the net. The more slack the better the net will tangle up the rabbits. As regards to the bag of the net, the bag of the net is the distance along the netting between the head line and the foot line when the net is set.
  19. Long netting from peg to peg by Martin King, so far the best book written about long netting! It covers all the technical aspects of setting net both quick set and traditional. IMHO it is the Haynes Manual of long netting. You will have answers to the question about what net to use that are about as diverse as you can get. From the normal 6z v 4z to the absolutely ridiculous 12z. AJ
  20. To put a point on the bottom of the shaft araldite a screw in to the shaft and grind the screw to a point. TC
  21. If you have ferreted these sets before, you should have some idea of where the rabbits bolt too or if indeed they hole hop. If they are hole hopping then the best way to deal with that is, purse net every hole. If there is no place nearby for the rabbits to head too as a place of saftey, then they will be reluctant to leave the warren, hence the hole hopping. However, looking at your photo there is a dry stone wall in the background and if that is not part of the same warren then it is a good place to start to look at as a place of refuge for the bolting rabbits. There is never a fixed ans
  22. That question is like asking how long is a piece of string. 2 x 10 yard nets will cover 20 yards, but it's the placement of the nets that count. 5 Yards in the right place will catch rabbits 50 yards in the wrong place will not. To find the right place is easy, you just try different placements and remember the placements that catch. Each and every ground is different and you have to learn what works on that ground. For hedgerows you cannot IMHO beat small 5 yard stop nets set @ 90 degrees to the hedge, the 5 yard nets also come in handy on large open warrens to stop the rabbits hole h
  23. Loads going round about him at the moment. Ready Steady Crook!.........He starred in that 11 times. Ainsley asking AWT and Nigella Lawson what they have in their bag for the £5 they were given. Nigella has a leek, 4oz of mature chedder and two pigeon breasts. AWT has two lobsters, a dozen oysters, haunch of venison and a case of moét & Chandon.
  24. I wish I knew. There seems to be rhyme nor reasons behind the price hikes. Braided nylon has gone up 25% and of course the extra vat you have to pay. I sell on ebay and as yet have not increased my prices but it will have to come, not just for me but for all other sellers as well, it all depends how much stock you have before you are forced to increase the price. I pride myself in giving good service with a back up at a reasonable price. The service will still be there but the prices will just have to go up. and if it becomes unviable well I will just have to stop selling. TC
