I know what you mean about peaople taking on plots then doing nothing with them. I used to have 2 allotments but had to giove them up because we moved I could not get the time to work them properly. They were all bramble, mares tail even knot weed when I took them over. 10 years later they were in a far better condition when I left them. We moved to a new house and the back garden was a 45 degree slope full of back fill, so I decided to make some terraces just to grow a bit of veg. The first terrace I built was out of stone. That was followed by two wooden ones on the other si

It really is a bad year. I like to start off in peat pots but even they have been damping off before they get thier true leaves. Slugs have eaten most of what I have sown. The only thing that has thrived is my swedes. A bit of sun and the cabbage root fly will have those I expect. I have tried a new type of runner bean this year it is supposed to be self pollinating. They have just started flowering so we will see, they are called moonlight and firestorm has anyone tried them? TC

Cider talking. Sorry

There was a simular topic a few years ago on another forum. It run for many pages. To be honest it was a very good thread, in that a lot of people gave input and insight. Although at the conclusion of the thread there was no definitive answer. My input then is the same as now, I do not think a hunting dog or cross would be able to do the job. The temptation to chase with the obvious conclusion, would just be too great for any dog with hunting blood. However, that is not to say that it cannot be done with a dog with the right attributes. (Not a dog with any sort of hunting ability,

Hedz, While I understood what you meant, I did not realise that my cider fueled ramblings would cause you such angst. As far as blowing smoke up your or anyone else who reads this ass is concerened. I was just having my say, in my way, the same as any other member here. The fact that you could understand it is a bonus, dont you think? TC

Hedz, I have been around lurchers for around 45 years give or take a year or two and have met them all, the good, the bad and downright ugly. I can spot a bull sh!tter miles away. PP22 tells it as it is. Not everything Granted, but, there again who does? TC

Judging from the responses to my last two posts. It is no wonder that THL has the reputation that it has. It does seem as if the so called dog men have more foreskin than foresight, unfortunately! TC

Why? PP22 needed a type of dog to do the job he wanted. He found a base and tried to evolve from that base. From what PP22 has stated on this thread It has been trail and error with some successes and some failiers. Some have jumped on the bandwaggon of his successes and tried to use it as a selling ploy, others have just dismissed his efforts completley. But, some can see where he is still trying to go ( even though the rules have changed some what ) and applaud him for his single mindedness and his belief in what he is trying to achive. TC

I have been into lurchers since I was 14 a fair few years ago. I think I can answer the question of what is a Minshaw. A minshaw is a dog desigend through modern evolution to do a particular job. As with natural evolution not all make it, but, that is not a bad thing. And once again as with natural evolution the spiecies is still evolving, all-be-it at a faster rate than nature would take. Just my take on what a Minshaw is. TC

Reddawn, I don't doubt that there are other lines of equal or even better stature to be had. In my mind it's horses for courses. I did not accuse you of being jealous, just making you aware that jealousy does exist and in a greater quantity than you might imagine. There is a difference between having a different opinion and calling a person a liar ( no matter how veiled it may be). To my mind to call a person a lair should be backed up with proof, not speculation such as "see the half chilled long ears". TC
-
Belive it or not I have read every post of this thread. The only people who have been call jealous are the one who have kept harping on about how it is not possible for PP22's dog to have caught as much game as they have. You can belive it or not but some people are just envious of anyone that does anything better than themselves, and that is a fact. It does not matter to them that they did not want to do it in the first place. In their small minds someone is beating them and they do not like it. Anyone who becomes good at what they do suffers from envious voyeurs, and detractors. Fact

you need to take a pege from daddys book fella but alas they are his pages ere they not . atb bunnys. i hope that made you laugh frankel because to be hones its been the best gut wrenching sunday in many a while for me infact when i look a back and see the half chilled long ears in some of them picks I feel oh so jealous . some can see wher others cana not . atb bunnys. At last the truth is out. By the way I fixed your post for you, No thanks required. TC

Bunnys. PP22, Frankel and Ginny Spinner have been very open and honest. Yet you continue to disrespect them without doing them the curtesy of providing proof of your superdogs. No origins of the line, none of the makeup or the threory behind the breeding decisions. Just a constant rant that "My dogs are better than yours" TC

to right tiercel andy his honest but has a way of side stepping AND MAKING STATEMENTS OF WANTING TO USE half bred collie lurche , for stud beggers belief the need to travel and have a look in the shop window so to speak glares out atr me and yet a like the guy , and respect he has been there and dun his apprentice ship with the collie cur . atb bunnys. I can see your point, but I can also see PP22's. His ideas of what he needs and how to achive that end has served him well for the last god knows how many years. Why would he want to change the formula now? Would your "Boy's" ch

To be fair to PP22 he has not bragged, just set out to give a very honest account of his dogs. He make no claims just tells it as it is for him, warts an-all. No one can fail to respect that type of honesty. TC
-
what type do you run then The way I read this is you are willing to sacrifice the dogs to placate your own ego's. "I lost a dog today, but it ,made me feel good cos I was testing it to the limit" What a load of Bollocks. TC

Just a question as to how close the dogs have been bred. The revival of the Cocker in the last 20 years could be put down to a couple of kennels close (for close read inbreeding) breeding. It seems to have worked. What would you say the main advantages have been to this 'type' of lurcher by the interbreeding? I do know of another 'type' of collie lurcher that has been closely bred from plummer lines as a ferreting lurcher, by all accounts they are doing quite well for themselves at their discipline. Is the close breeding trying to preserve or rekindle the attributes that the founde

What an utterly amazing thread this is It Can go off topic but still remain intresting. Some of the tales take me back a few years. Long may it continue. TC

I don't think there is any one of us, who have had dogs over many years that have not gone though what you are feeling now. You took the right option that is what counts. I sometimes think that dogs with true caring owners are lucky, as when the time comes, the owner recognises it and does what is necessary. Not pleasant by any means, but it does give the owner a sense of "I did my best by the dog". If only we humans were allowed the same privileges that we give to animals. TC

A husky is a generic term just like a lurcher is. Threre was a thread on here not so long ago, about people going and working with dogs to learn some disapline in their live and how to control their own dogs. Some of those huskies looked pretty handy. TC
