  1. Did they manage to put your fingers back on ? Unfortunately not. My thumb was dislocated, and my middle finger was sewn back on but the tendon was cut and had to be joined so I cannot straighten it. TC I lost the tip of my middle finger at work and it was worth it for the payout. I would do it again tomorrow but I don't know if money could tempt me with that, looks a mess. Oh it's not that bad and the women seem to like it. TC It was a very strange sensation using the finger for the first time after having the end took off. That happened 47 years ago and I can still

  3. Was the lab pup ok...? He was, my brother was more concerned with him than me. TC

  6. I had been to the dentist in the morning and was back too late to go to school for the afternoon, so my brother myself and two mates went fishing for the afternoon. Our fishing was walking up the river spinning for trout, we went further up the river than planned and I had to be back for a paper round. There was a short cut back home down a single line railway that took stone from the quarry down to the main line. As we are walking down the line the daily train comes so we hide in some bushes by the side of the line and wait till the engine is out of sight, then we would jump on the steps
  7. We would start off in the second half of February in 300ft + of water very hit and miss, but even the hits were not great. The bye catch of lobster and big cod would make some wages. As the days grow longer so the fish would start to come in and each set of neap's would see the boat fishing shallower water. Once the gulf stream came in, usually end of April it would start to get busy then and the net size would be upped to try and avoid the spiders and the mayweed.
  8. As a bye, what size mesh do you intend to use for the Ray / Roker nets? I worked on a Ray boat for a couple of years on the neap tides. We would shoot and haul 6 miles of net per day. In the early spring /late winter we would use 10" mesh but as the spiders started coming in we would progress to 14" mesh, #5 leadline and double 6 or 8mm head line. TC

  10. Danish rig is a rig for sole where the lead line is just threaded through the bottom selvedge with no staples and the headline is a normal staple rigged by a third, with a double 8mm polyprop headline. TC
  11. Strip them out, repair them then rig them as a Danish rig. TC

  13. The first nets I made myself were out of an old trammel, that was close on 30 years ago believe it or not I still have them, all-be-it patched and looking like Joseph's coat. TC
  14. A sheet netting long net in 4" mesh is 15.5 meshes deep including selvedges that equates to 5ft or 62 inches in depth, but that is stretched netting. TC
  15. Unless they are hemp or cotton there is no real need to dry them, an airy shed will do quite well, as long as there is air circulating around them they will dry themselves. TC
  16. Yep have to be broken to ferrets. TC
  17. To be trapped in a body that just does not work any more must be terrible, to be trapped in a body that just does not work any more, yet gives unbearable pain day and night without any chance of recovery, is to my mind incomprehensible. To be unable to help people like that must be torture, watching someone you love and care for going through that every day and having the feeling of helplessness for the simple reason they are beyond doing it themselves, yet the law will not allow you to help them to end their pain. It is quite simply wrong. TC
  18. It does seem that the law is an ass on this subject. You can commit suicide quite legally, as it is not a crime. Yet pass someone a bottle of pills and you have as good as murdered them in the eyes of the law. TC
  19. I should add that any photo's posted are there for perpetuity also. So think on when posting photo's, they may come back to bite you. TC
  20. Every one who is cavalier with what they write on the net should take note of this. It's not made up, it's a fact of the internet, everything you ever write on the net is there for ever. TC
  21. As the trout season runs from 1st March to the 30th of September it was also out of season, and the fish would have just spawned and be gravid and taste like shit. TC
  22. A hen fish as well, bet she was a good weight before she spawned. Was it returned? TC
