Cold potato with lashings of butter , cold gravy, meat pie between two pieces of bread (cold). Cheese and onion crisps, (crunched up small) ham and mustard, corned beef with branston fruity sauce, but my favourite has to be either apple and sugar or banana. All on wholemeal bread. TC

A good guess there and not far off. This dessert/cider variety takes its name from a ********* who was shot whilst stealing apples from the Megginch estate in Scotland. The apples were thrown on a rubbish heap by his wife and one of the seedlings that emerged was subsequently named after his predicument and his job. The fruits are blood red, crisp and juicy. When very ripe, the flesh becomes stained pink. TC

There is an apple tree growing by the side of the road near me where the road has gone through what used to be a farm garden. This apple is odd as it is red on the inside as well as the outside, it is a desert apple and really sweet. There is a story behind the name of the apple which is applicable to THL, any guesses? TC

Choosing what onions to store is a big part of getting it right. Any onion without a thin neck should be used straight away and not stored. It also depends on the variety of the onion to be stored, some are better than others. Red onions are very difficult to store, why I do not have a clue. I was always told to store in nets in a cool airy place once dried, but for the amount I grew they would never last till Xmas as I would have run out by then. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/onion/storing-onions.htm a basic synopsis of storing onions TC

I was looking for a variety of potato to grow next year when I came across this site, there seem to be a lot of new gardeners on here this year so I thought it may be helpful to some one. http://www.gardenfocused.co.uk/index.php There is an automatic wiget on there where you type in where you live and it gives the optimum dates for planting in your area.
