  1. Hiya KRC, I was going to go for the 50mm front lens as well (just because it looks nice!!!) but as almost all my shooting time I get is usually at night with a lamp it would make little differance to the amount of light captured so being a skin flint I went for the cheapest!!!! I think a .177 pellet leaves the barrel so quick that it hasn't got time to be 'flicked' upwards as the barrel flex's (like a ruler on the edge of a work surface) so theres very little upwards arc above the line of aim. Excuse the rough graphs but it's the best I could do in Paint!!! Hope this helps you out
  2. You'll never guess what I got for xmas???..... alright maybe you will, new scope turned up under the tree , got it straight on the gun but only found an hour or two today to get it zero'd. Should of been going to the races but my brother cancelled last minute, so thought bugger it, I'll go to the hunt meet but by the time the missus got off to work and I managed to bump start the volvo I'd missed the start and couldn't find em (no one seems to use CB's to keep in touch with each other anymore?) so got out and started playing with the new toy It's a nice looking scope with s
  3. You find a way of trapping a wildboar then getting it it the landy then we'll have a go!
  4. Now that's a stunning Dog MikeTheDog love the look of him.
  5. As normal a top class post!!! that is a stunning area you live in but now tell them all the fun bits about living in such a remote part of the country!!! eg. power cuts every time the wind gets over 10mph, rains to hard or a starling farts on the main box! even when the power does come back on (usually about two days by the time the electric board can be arsed to help), the fun you have when all the bulbs in the house blow from the resulting power surge and you've got a 5 mile hike to buy new ones from the nearest shop (which will probably be closed due to losing business to a supermarket 25 m
  6. Brilliant!! I'd like to offer my services to Mrs Dallinger if her husbands problems persist.
  7. Looks like you've done a hell of a job on the knife and sheath, thumbs up to ya mate! Is their any way you can seal rhe top exposed edge of the leather on the sheath to stop water soaking in? a hot poker or linseed oil maybe? just interested whether it will matter of not? and were did you get the leather from? Cheers Luke
  8. Sounds like a good day out and some great pics!
  9. Had a poker night out on a mates farm last weekend, his missus did a mean curry and I managed to win my money back and between us we managed to polish off all his whiskey supplies! next morning, breakfast down we head out to do a bit of pest control. He's been having trouble from starlings and herring gulls (from the local tip) eating the cows maize, he's tried scaring them off but nothing was working so out with the shotties. Cut a long story short we were having a great day of it until my spanial (who's now 16 and deaf) lost sight of me and decided to try and track me following my scent but
  10. IMO it depends what quarry your going to shoot at more, .177 for a flatter trajectory which obviously helps at longer shots but it can cut straight through at closer ranges without transfering much energy to the target (not a prob if you consistantly go for head shots) but a slight miss on the boiler room shot and the animal is going to get a fair way before dropping plus being a lighter pellet the wind can affect it more easily. .22 for better stopping power. (larger face to the pellet so it transfers more of the energy upon hitting its target) so slightly out on a heart and lung shot will s
  11. Bill Oddie did a program on them and they got footage of them grabbing red deer hinds and trying to drag them off cliff edges. It couldn't pick it up but they dig their talons in and over balance them.
  12. Thanks for Reminiscing with me! I think back then the deer would of been shot first anyway, the dog would of been taken just in case a wounded deer needed to be pulled down quickly due to location/terrain etc. I was just interested on how you used too train the dogs for holding the neck etc. rather than just grabbing the first bit it could sink it's teeth into! anyone thats been near a kicking screaming deer knows how dangerous the hooves can be! and you wouldn't of wanted to risk a dog just for one nights fun (I realize that dogs from good working stock would of probably not needed much tra
  13. Imagine if it was 19something and you had been asked advise by a novice of the sport on a crash course for getting a dog ready for deer in less than 1 month (tall order I know!) and presuming jaw stength or gameness wasn't a factor but the speed of the dog was (even if it was very fit and agile for it's breed) what would you of advised as key points to concentrate on? say the dog was of bull breeding but had no long dog in it? Any passing comments on old training tricks would be much appreciated!
  14. Eczema maybe but not wet eczema, wet eczema is called that for a reason, as it will have a sticky puss like substance coming from it, that sets like glue in the fur, and it can spread with the puss, it can sometimes get quite serious if not treated. The spanial got it quite a lot and it cleared up fine on it's own but when my bully got it - as you can see it spread around the back of her neck then on to her cheek and jowl. The neck healed up ok but the cheek scar'ed Let a vet take a look, it might be some kind of skin mite? any of the other dogs from that litter having the same pr
  15. Hawke 3-9x40 Sport HD MAP on order looked at Deako's site only £54 but £8 p&p for Somerset. The cheapest I could find it was £54.95 + £3.95 p&p from airsportdirect.com and that's a good point about the pellet weight, I'm using accupel's and their only 14.3 grains. by the looks of it though you just need to adjust the zoom to change the P.O.I
  16. Been looking around at some prices and they seem pretty reasonable!, I think I'll take your advice and get one, Thanks Al
  17. Want to get close to Nature? then go on a safari, you don't get much closer than this!!!
  18. As the title say's has anyone got or tried a Multiple Aim Point scope, calibrated for .177 or .22 it has set marks for every 5 yds or something, they look quite busy but sound a good idea.
  19. Well I finally managed it... well an engineer from work managed it anyway got the main spring, valves and piston head changed (the new springs are an inch and a half longer than the old ones!!!) The Relum Tornado is back!!! I'm not fitting scopes again (their on the logun) so just need to get a front sight fitted on again then I'll get it out in the field for test. Had some teething problems with it to start with but it was just the trigger adjustment wound in to far (every time I cocked it the lever would snap back) anyway I'm rambling so thanks Baldie for your help
