As above which cleaning kits have you used and would recommend or steer clear of, and what solvent for lead removal? (Butanone, Acetone, Tolulene etc) chemical names rather than Brand names would be helpful but not essential. At the moment I'm still using a steel (yes Steel!!!) rod and patches that came with the Relum!!!

Lurcher Training/working ,Scotland
bullmastiff replied to heather's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Have you got any pics of the dog? If you were told it was a border/lurcher cross, you might find they meant the Border Collie not the Border Terrier!!! which is a much more common cross for Lurchers!!! Good Luck with the training! -
As Ian said you can get purpose made sharpening stones for serrated edges, from rounded to triangular. When my Dad moved to Thailand he gave me his sharpening set. He's had it for maybe 10 years and so have I. I'd recommend it to anyone. It will bring any type of knife back to life. With variable angles from a working 30º edge (machete/cleaver) to a razor 15º (skinning, filleting or even shaving!). with Extra course through to Honing stones Lansky Deluxe Just had a quick look on the net and you can pick it up for £35 HERE

Just wear some thermal undies you wuss!!! :11: Hides need to be blended into their background by using shadow and/or differant natural colours to break up their outline or they will stand out from a mile, so unless your going to leave the tent out permenatly covered in dead grass/branches it won't be worth it. In which case you might as well use a camo net or do as Millet said and build a permanent natural one (ask the landowner first!!!). One easy way is to get 4ft by 12ft of cheap chicken wire (about £10-12 down B&Q for 30ft) with four hazel poles to attach it to. build a bo

You shouldn't need a hide as such, as you won't be swinging the gun around much. Set your decoys out in a very rough V with the point into the the wind and decoys 'heads' again roughly into the wind. Put on some dull coloured clothes greens/browns (not Black) and crawl back into the nearest hedge/bush and relax!!! (Try putting your furthest decoy at about 30-35 yds as a range marker)

Ok thanks again Baldie, Just looked at Chambers for parts and found they've got a new website, so easier to order now! and your right just under £30 for parts. What would you recommend for the inside of the barrel? again rusty and pitted do you think a phos bronze brush is going to shift it? (if done enough times) I've got it stripped down and soaking in dodecane oil (like a heating oil) at the mo to try and loosen dirt/grease and rust. I can't believe how heavy it is!!! my brother was carrying the HW35 around the woods for a few hours last night and was complaining this morning! and thi

So what will happen about the shotgun cert? I guess it's out the window now? Could an understanding Firearms officer still sign you off?

We tried using a check chain on our last springer and even a gentle check would upset him too much so went to a rope slip lead which is a lot softer on the dog. It worked really well with him. Another way of using it was spinning the lead in front of the dog's face/you as you walk, you don't need to do it fast (your not trying to crack him on the muzzle) but the motion of it passing in front of it's face keeps him behind you. Once their walking to heel checking by voice not chain then rest the lead on their back and contiue the training. Once your comfortable they will check by voice alone th

I must admit I'm interested in feeding the BARF diet as well and was just wondering what you do for the veg side of the diet? is it cheap veg blended then added to mince/bones etc? what veg do you use? I'm lucky in that Tia is omnivorous (give her a bowl of lettuce and she'd get stuck in!!!) so I can blend it and put it straight in her bowl.

A friend at work has asked me to fix up a HW80 he found in his barn but after looking at it I think it might be a little out of my league!!! I'm a tinker not a Gunsmith (as most of you know!) The action/barrel is covered in rust and quite badly pitted, the cocking lever is flapping about and although as rusty as the rest of the gun looks like it's from a differant air rifle??? and when cocked the trigger won't catch the sear on the spring, (I tried adjusting the screws on the trigger in case it was wound down to tight) The stock has a thin split along the cheekpiece and is battered about quit

Your right Scotty it was a cracking day! I ended up getting their late as a couple of lads that should of been coming with me cancelled last minute (whilst I'm blowing the horn outside their houses ). so missed the meet by over an hour and had to track the people and hounds away from the farm, which luckily isn't too hard when their's 25 couple of hounds and probably close to 40 people!!! (leaves a fair mark in the grass!!!) they had caught about 8-10 by the time we got there apparently and got a further 8, so a total of 16-18 rabbits. Not only was it a cracking day out but I got to see some

a .22 will of dropped about 17 inches at 68 yards, if I could hit a 10p piece at that range I'd be in olympics!!! And as for 100yd shots we just tried it shooting at a galvanised tank and had to aim over 8ft to get it ringing!

Happy Birthday! have a good one!

LMAO!! Now I'm goin to have to pinch that one!!!

As a lot of people seem to feed the BARF diet to their dogs, do any of you give a rest day? what I mean is not feeding the dog at all on one particular day of the week and just leaving them water. I think it used to be a standard practice years ago as it's supposed to help the dogs 'clear out' their digestion? same as wolves/wild dogs not eating for 3-4 days between meals.

Well as normal Strong Stuff's done the business, I must admit I was a bit concerned with the idea of sending cash through the post to a stranger but as it's recorded delivery and members such as the venerable Ditchy, Simoman and Mad Al among others have all ordered from him then nothing to worry about! Ordered a hi-viz collar for when Tia's out and about etc. I sent the money Friday after work, got a PM Monday morning confirming the money had arrived, the collar turned up first thing Tuesday morning. Washable and with a lifetime guarantee I'd HIGHLY recommend his collar's!

How do you poach a goose? I've poached eggs before, you must have to use an enormous pan of water for that! For me I've only lately found the joy's of roasted Partridge, so i'll be enjoying a nice pair wrapped up in some best streaky! and a wee drop of homemade Sloe Vodka!

Selling rabbit's at 75p - £1.00 each = between 600-800 rabbits sold to your local game dealer could pay for the Merlin! even taking it steady on land like Magwitch's will have it paid off in a couple of years. so in four years you could pay off the bill for a £1500 gen 3. - it's all just a question of money management!!! How many foxes would it take to pay off a GEN 3!!!
