Well just got back and had a cracking day out, it was a hot and Sunny until about 2ish when the clouds came in and the temp dropped a bit but the rain held off. I got some fairly decent video (hopefully) of a few of the races but handed the camcorder over to the missus when Roo raced, they got the start of it but then Tia decided to try and take off after the Lure as well she knocked the cam out of her hand Never mind, he had to run again anyway as the lure broke! second time she gave the cam to the lady next to her. who preceded to film the car at the end of the track so just caught the do

We'll be taking father in laws camcorder with us, so hope to get a bit of footage of some of the races, so I'll post it afterwards. LadyP you have PM! See you all in about 12 hours! Cheers Luke.

As it's only a week to go, I thought I'd look up Roundham on google maps, it shows a field next to what looks like a farm and business estate! is this it or have you got a postcode I could use? Cheers

Definately be going, I've never been to Lurcher racing before so will be a good experience! Still trying to get Roo fit but will give him a run anyway! Do they have to where muzzles whilst running? and if so do you have to supply your own or could I borrow one?

Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I think we must be going through that now as training seems to be going OK! (for only the second day anyway!), I'm trying to just keep it fun and loaded with treats at the moment, as were still new to him/him to us. Took him to the Farm today for a bit of socialization and see what he's like with some livestock, completely ignored the cows even when they ran, had a quick sniff at the Chickens but was watching the sheep a bit intensely so got a quick tug at the lead and a firm leave and then he ignored them as well (for now, I'll have to keep an eye on that!). So far he seems a well mannered, c -
Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thank you everyone, Missie we were amazed at how quick it was. Came back from the walk, gave him back then sat in the car, had lunch and discussed if we could take him on or not, less than an hour later were stood in reception, signing the agreement (says we've got to get him castrated) and paying the 'compulsory donation'. We didn't expect to take him there and then, luckily I've always had a spare lead/collar in the car as Tia's broken three so far (strongstuff's collar still seems to be holding!) as the lady pottered off and brought him out to the car. FJager, judging from the stat -
Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Well we went to look at him today and took him for a 4-5 mile walk with Tia and they got on great, quick snarling match at first when he tried to mount her. but he backed down, fuss over! they then turned into best of mates, running and playing as if they've known each other for ever. So even though we only went to look at him, we ended up bringing him home with us. I didn't realise adopting was so simple and easy! On the ride home, he tried mounting her again, she pulled a lip back and he jumped off and started licking her face. So hopefully pack position is sorted already. As soon as we g -
Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thank you all for your advice, I think I'll see if we can take them for a walk together and see if they get along, if so, (hopefully it won't come to castrastion!) I might be able to get him out of the kennels by the end of the month. The long hours should stop soon (within a 4-5 weeks) so I will have more time to train him. but the missus is confident enough for the house and some basic training until then. If not, then I'll post the kennels address/phone Nº if anyone wants to take a look at him. FJager, company for Tia is one of the reasons we were looking for another dog, she's been -
Advice on a rescue bullX Lurcher?

Anyone? -
The family and I were at the Westcountry game fair today and I took the missus in to see the Lurcher show as she thought all Lurcher's were thin dainty whippet like dogs!!! so took her in to see some different breeds. In the ring at the time was a Lurcher that she loved the look of. Spoke to the guy after to find out what cross he was (bullXGreyX?) and found out it was from a rescue kennel and was up for adoption. He had been dumped outside the rescue kennel in October with his muzzle opened up and his bottom lip ripped up, it Healed ok apart from a slightly wonky nose and his bottom lip stic

I never did do a post on the trip, so I'll write one out in the boar section later. And stabs you may look tall next to me maybe but Handsome... Never! FJager, why do I get the feeling I'd be lined up for a weight lifting session halfway up a mountain!

Thank you for your replys guys, Will, It was a cracking weekend with the Crazy Dutchman and his dogs and will be going again later this year, hopefully getting a couple of digs in as well this time. F Jager, I've been to Oz once before. Cairns, diving off the reef, Melbourne (which I hated) and then Dubbo for a friends wedding. and would love to go again, so maybe one day I will take you up on that offer, thank you very much. Vinny, One of the Farms I shoot on has a few Roe, but they are hunted by some guys in a pickup charging about by Lamp light, not my idea of stalking. I could ask

Thanks to this Site, I've been able to experience a few differant types of hunting that I have thoroughly enjoyed, from Rabbit hunting with Petit Gryphon hounds to Boar hunting in Belgium with Patterdales. So maybe a long shot (excuse the pun) but if you don't ask, you don't get! I've never been stalking, would someone allow me to come along to watch them/help out? Although I worked as an underkeeper for a couple of years I never actually got to go out and watch the stalking. I live in South Somerset (BA9) but will certainly travel. I'm not too bad with a knife and although I'm only 5'6" I

I might of read it wrong but by the sounds of it Ditch I think he just meant it as a kind gesture in return for yours, offering you the chance of sport the PUB's have removed from you. Have you thought of showing yourself to the pick up as they drive around? If every time they check out your patch they see you with rifle and Lamp in hand they might decide it's not worth the petrol as you've cleared the area? (I'm guessing their not getting much sport from your ground either???) Take Care Luke

Been sniffing Xylene Hey! We've got to use Vapour masks and Nitrile gloves when we use Toluene at work, although we use it conjuction with MEK for priming rubber so the gloves melt and the mask goes sticky!!! Luke

Thank You Neil, We use loads of different Solvents at work, hence the reason for asking if any would work! Must admit I'd forgotten about the possible damage to 'O' rings so Thanks! Luke.
