Taunton Vale Harriers Hunt Supporters show
bullmastiff replied to welshphil's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Which day is it? I'm not working Sunday for a change!!! Do you know where?, when?, if dogs are allowed, etc. LadyP any info grateful! It's probably one of the closer hunt's to me and I know nothing about them! Portman Hunt open day (Sunday 20th) has been moved due to kennel cough? but still got the dog show / Show Jumping going on (not that mine are in a pretty state to win any prize's, but I'll go along to show support?) Cheers Luke. -
Roe buck > Question (deer in general)
bullmastiff replied to Rabbithunter's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I think some of you might be mistaking the Hunting Act as a law brought in to improve the welfare of the Animal! No you can't let a dog bring down a shot, wounded deer to end it's suffering/misery, dogs may only be used to flush or track, that's it as far I know? If a deer keeps running after being shot/injuryed then better luck next time. As for killing the deer yourself? unless you have permission from the landowner (otherwise it's poaching) then your to walk away, leaving the poor bugger hung on the fence. Contact the local authorities who will finally get round to it once they find ti -
I'm off to Coleford (forest of Dean) for the weekend and with petrol prices/strikes as they are, am I safer filling up here than up there? (118.9p for unleaded here) I'd hate to fill up then get there and find prices are a lot cheaper or that they don't have any!!! (ran out at my local last week!!!) Thanks in advance. Luke

I saw on the bird from Dog Borstal solve a dog pulling in about an 15 mins, although it will need reinforcing regularly. Hold the lead with a loop in your hand and start walking with the dog on your left, as soon as the dog starts trying to pull let go of the loop of lead, spin 180º clockwise around and walk the other way saying 'HEEL' just once as you turn. The dog will probably pay no attention at all until the lead suddenly snaps tight (your both momentarily heading in opposite directions) and drags him round and back to your left leg (collect your loop of lead again quickly). As he tries

Most of it's bluff from them but if they feel it's worth their time then they'll ask the Police to get a Warrant issued to enter and search your premises. Warrants are specific to each case (no such thing as a general warrant issued for any old copper to search your house top to toe). It will list the Police officers and civilians (RSPCA, vet, etc) that are being allowed to enter your property, the parts of the house they can search/look at, in your case the dog kennels (no use them searching the loft being nosey looking for a dog kennel! If a copper knocks at your door issuing a warrant t

Abort jab for unplanned/unwanted mating
bullmastiff replied to Waz's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Just had it done to Tia, had kept the dogs separated all through her season, then my daughter opened Roo's cage! by the time I got into the Kitchen it was too late and I couldn't get them separated! The new stuff they use can be given at any time during the pregnancy but costs a lot, 2 jabs 24 hours apart, for 80lb dog was £115!!! if I had known it would cost that much I might of thrown her in a hot bath and made her drink Gin!!! Bullmastiff X 1/4 Bullgreyhound would of been an interesting mix though, good for hunting cows perhaps!! -
Fjager, Ok, thank you (just put my mind at rest!!). It was a complete fluke getting a dog like him! I'm still waiting for Father in law to download the camcorder onto a DVD for me! (I still haven't been able to post the footage I got from the Lure Racing!) Got quite a few photos on it now, so will eventually get some more up! I never eat the lights of the game I get (Bar one particular animal , which the missus turned into a wonderful pate) so they always go to the dogs whilst still warm! Jimmy, Thats exactly what I was doing, the cheeks pushed between the teeth thing, I can't say I'd eve

Yes dogs can eat uncooked fresh rabbit - guts and all!, as Little Lurcher said you can either freeze it (not with the guts in though) or just worm your dogs more regularly and as for the rabbit, pasta, rice and veg - Bugger the dogs, they'd have to fight me for it first!

I've been taking the dogs out with me shooting and usually let Tia do the retrieving. After I shot a rabbit I thought I'd put Roo's retrieving to the test. Now he will retrieve tennis balls, Kongs and fur covered dummies (washing-up bottle full of stones and wrapped in a fresh rabbit skin) to my feet and will let go of them when told (in the garden and the field) but when he picked up the dead rabbit in the field, first he just tried eating it then when I caught hold of the rabbit to take it from him he wouldn't let go! He didn't try to pull away from me but just stood there with it clamped b

Might of been a lesser Horseshoe bat? their fairly common in that area of Britain. and can seem pretty big as they whip past you. Or if it really was blackbird size (35-38cm wingspan) then how about a Noctule? they can have up to a 40cm wingspan! http://www.worlddeer.org/britishbats/noctule.html

Have I missed something??? What happened HW??? Good Fight Kye. Hope their were some scouts there, so they saw that you and Billy would of won if not for a bad decision by the Ref. Good luck in the future Luke.

Thank you Taff. Will yours get any more height to him do you think? or just fill out with maturity? are you going to be working him when he's older? I've only got a few photo's of him with the camera around the house so far and a few on the camera phone after hunting. I'm out again this weekend so will try to remember to take the camera with me. You have PM. Take Care Luke.

Ditchy you've managed to encompass the total Hypocrisy of local politic's in one Paragraph! Classic!!! Logunsolo - As has been said, their are lists of trusted pest controller's (not all are proffessional) that the Council will use. A simple letter with referances (gun club, local farmer etc) to the correct person may well get you on that list?? and if not ask what will?, also speak to the surrounding farmers about pest control, if theirs that many rabbits then the surrounding area should be stocked high! then there's no faffing around with red tape just a simple permission letter then get

The town I live in is in the world record books for being the first place to be officially twinned with a fictional town/city Ankh-Morkpork! (Terry Pratchett's Discworld) they have a gathering every year when everyone dresses as a Discworld character, drinking into the wee hours, eats dibbler sausages and playing THUD. Terry has been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, although he recon's he has a few books left in him yet! Reading Stephen Kings 'The Dark Tower' series at the moment. some of the books are really quite good, others you read just so you don't lose the plot for the next one.

As above really, I tried downloading pcoptimiser2 but it ran the tests then told me I had to buy it to get the problems fixed! Cheers Luke.

The cute girl that won the under 23" racing I think had racing Whippets? or 7/8 racing whippet crosses, fancy trailer and all! (top pic) the guy on the right of pic was a really nice, genuine guy with a proper working dog. It was a shame he/his dog didn't win it, as it was really close (he released slightly later by the look's of it?), I filmed it (just trying to get it converted from mini DV tape to DVD so I can post it!) Daz 418 mile round Trip, your mad!!! next time just give us a shout and we'll put you up for the night, Dog included! Never know, might be able to get you out for a moo
