  1. Cheers for the comments, S.P. as I said in the write up, thats the reason I went and found some squatters. She just wasn't keeping up with the rabbits in a straight line let alone when turning. Usually she can stick behind a Rabbit pretty well. I don't know if it was to do with fitness, the really thick sticky mud or if the injury is still affecting her? or as someone else said just having an off day? I'm off out for a few runs tonight on some differant ground so will see how she goes.
  2. Haven't written about a night out for a while and as I'm sat here reading another argument on what can (or can't) catch a deer, I thought I'd write a few lines about my night out on Saturday. I didn't catch bugger all so You might as well stop reading now... lol Tess's limp seemed to of disappeared and now she's finally finished her season I thought I'd get her out for a few runs on the bunnies and start trying to get her fit again. The land I've just got permission on is 600 acres of mainly Dairy, set on both sides of a valley, with a few sheep and 5-6 fields of overwintering crops on t
  3. Snaring Foxes is a bit of an art, the height your setting your snares and the type you'd use, can, if not set correctly catch unintentional species. Forking out for a trap isn't worth it unless your using it regularly. Both would be good to learn, you never know, maybe someone on here lives local and is willing to teach you? Might be worth stating where you are in the country? Probably quickest to post in the Firearms section and state where your from/area the permissions in and the problem your having. I'm sure someone will live fairly local and more than happy to help you out.
  4. Got three boxes of wall tiles in the shed. Builder left them when he did our bathroom.......
  5. Sounds good chris, your only 20 miles along the A303 from me Think I've got 10 days off over xmas so should be able to get something sorted. Take it your not free tomorrow though!
  6. Posted in the fieldsports offers section and PM'd a few people but they either can't make it or haven't replied! I've got permission on a golf course and thought the best way to knock back the numbers quick, would be to ferret it? if no takers I'll shoot/dog it out Sunday night. Only had the permission two weeks and they've only just signed the permission letter but he's already chasing me to make a dent on the rabbits!! So thought I'd post it in here too? anyone fancy a day out?
  7. anyone free for tomorrow? PM'd a few people but they either can't make it or haven't replied! 8. Off out for a mooch about tonight, freezer could do with filling again!!!

  9. Think the idea of the blanket bombing of the Leagues freepost address was just to get it closed, so it takes away an extra source of income for them. the bill they might incur was just an added bonus! It's taken away that option for them in the future too. Royal mail might waiver a bill once but a second bill would be enforced. They can't keep soaking up the costs of sort office emplyee's sorting which mail to throw away and which to keep. On a side note xmas cards come with there own envelope and the cheap ones can now be bought by the hundred for a pound or two.... Delivery of an envel
  10. All he can do is report it to the police who'll come round and take an informal statement from you. Make sure they know it was his dog that started the fight but yours being a more powerful breed was able to defend itself and that they can speak to any of your neighbors about how friendly yours is to every other dog in the neighborhood.. Worst case, they will give your dog an ASBO that they'll keep on record in case it happens again (make sure his gets an ASBO too). They can't fine you, take the dog from you or hand out jail term for an accidental dog fight so don't panic about it. He ca
  11. Tyla looking at your profile pic, is that the same dog at the front of the photo? looks like it's pasterns have a fair degree of forward movement? (pasterns is the wrist I believe, not the elbow).
  12. In the days before locators, it involved digging more holes!!! or a hob on a line that would cut down the digging a bit!
  13. 8shot, you free this Sunday? Nasher can't get down till next weekend so this Sundays free if you fancy a trip out? I'll PM you my Number.
  14. Brilliant photo's and a cracking looking pup! thanks for sharing with us! I presume they were taken with a decent (expensive) camera?
  15. Another way I got taught was using Brambles to find the rabbit in the stop end. Strip all but the end thorns off a straight piece of bramble about two-three foot long then poke it down each hole. You can feel a surprising amount and tell which way the holes go and dig on about 5 feet intervals at a time. If the rabbits holed up in a stop end then the thorns rack some of the fur off and it sticks to the end.
  16. Sorry for delay, was flat out with work. I'll PM each of you and get some dates sorted out Some might have to be after xmas though as I can't fit you all in at once!
  17. He breeds Colliexgreys (both border and Bearded). Some call him a puppy peddler with unworked sh*t dogs, others call him a professional breeder and swear by his dogs as being consistently good. Never met the chap or seen his dogs/puppies so can't personally comment...
  18. Sounds like a nice cross. How much Saluki is in your salukixgrey?
  19. Where you from? Sure they'll be someone on here that's fairly close to you that might show you the ropes? BUT - read up on the laws of hunting with a dog as you might end up in trouble without realising it. Your supposed to have permission from the land owner to hunt Rabbits legally.... if you get caught poaching the dog can be taken off you..... Not easy to explain to the rest of the family!!!
  20. This post is a year old! He's probably sorted it by now!
  21. I don't keep Ferrets or much equipment anymore but got some new Permission that could be used for Ferreting and by the time I bring some kits on the season will be over so thought I'd offer to take someone out. Used to ferret a lot years ago, so could help a young'un starting out if they've got the kit (I've still got a locator and collar somewhere) or if your experienced and just fancy ferreting somewhere new perhaps? Almost all the land is overlooked by the farmers/owners so well trained and stock broken dogs are welcome but if they muck about they'll be sent back to the car!
  22. When I was younger we always bought a Hob as large as possible to work, we never bred our own as the local papers were always full of ferrets for free. Most large Hobs just look big because their fat and thicker haired. We always looked for a decent coat on the ferret, if it was fat then it didn't matter, it would soon work that off! We only ever had one collar so would work up to 4 medium sized Jills (just fit through a net) uncollared in large buries but if it went quiet for several minutes then the collared Hob would be sent in to move the Jill on and mark for the dig. We also used it fo
  23. Off out with the dogs for a mooch before getting The Sunday roast on. God I love Sundays!
