  1. Who said dad's can't do ponytails.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PGOyBWs6IJo
  2. Always taught my dogs to jump but the dog I got as a rescue hadn't been taught to jump and was a bugger to get over a fence or gate but once he was behind quarry then he'd jump anything! Tess will jump fence's etc but when she jumps them, she'll try and kick off from the top wire. Anyone any ideas how to stop her doing it? touch wood, she's never hurt herself doing it but one day she might not be so lucky.

  5. It's not too bad. Only trouble is it's split up with a ton of roads and lanes. Your never more than a couple of fields away from a fairly busy road. Don't half get jealous when people post these photo's in the middle of know where!!
  6. I'm about 30 miles east of you. in Wincanton. There's a few member from yeovil and Taunton on here and a fair amount from Bristol.
  7. `We bought one of them wooden kids wendy houses as a dog kennel. Lined the inside and cut a hole at the bottom of the door then just hung some hesian across it. Was pretty sturdy and only cost about £70 from B&Q (few years ago now though)

  9. Just started registering on Gunsonpegs and it say's - 'If GunsOnPegs was suggested by an existing member, enter their email address here and both of you will have a chance to win a 3 day shooting trip in Suffolk' Is anyone on here a member? seems a shame to waste the chance!!
  10. When I saw them running, must admit was like you say, surpised at how quick they let the dog eat, it's not like it's a small meal either!!! the dogs just runs head first into the bucket! Doesn't even get time to pull it's tongue back in! Next thing I thought, was wonder what it would be like over a nice greyhound.....
  11. Have a look at the Standard Poodle. Originally bred by the French as a water retriever by Wildfowlers.. Will be difficult to find a working breeder in this country but their is breeders in Canada and the US that breed them for work and import to this country, Google it I believe their's someone in Scotland working them too....
  12. sorry, was pissed so wasn't making a lot of sense! Deleted...
  13. Although it gets beat all over the shop it still doesn't give up!!
  14. Nice going. Finding Tess is starting to settle down a bit more at the start of the day ferreting. The first several times out are certainly a steep learning curve for them!
  15. Thank you all for the advice. It's the first time I've shot with a shotgun in a long time, so only got about 20 out of the 50 clays (kept pausing my swing when pulling the trigger so missing them behind) Think it was more bad technique than bad gun fitment making me miss. The Rabbits were easy enough as this was more instinctive shooting, it's the fast crossers left to right I kept missing.... The gun felt comfortable to shoot once in the shoulder properly, I had to concentrate on getting it into my shoulder comfortably, again I think this was more just out of practice than the gun not fitt
  16. Congratulations on the first of many! That cocker did do well!!! bless him he couldn't even pick it up!

  18. I'm after a bit of help/advise. I've been given a Lanber Shotgun as the owner didn't really use it anymore. I took it to the clay ground for an hours instruction and get the gun/me checked over before heading out and trying it on live quarry. As soon as I mounted the gun the instructor said it's too short for me and it needs to be at least an inch longer in the stock, I thought this was unusual as I'm only a short arse! (5'6") and the guy I got it from is a bit bigger than me and almost got into the olympics skeet team in his earlier years so I can't see him using an ill fitting gun....
  19. Greyhounds being used to hunt the South Americian version of the Ostrich (the Greater Rhea) I know they always say their fast on the documentries but was surprised to see it compared to something like a greyhound.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ74C8ajHME&feature=watch-vrec
  20. I'm sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you.
  21. Only had limited experience before they banned it but I'd seen smaller foxes caught by the back/ribcage just 'crunched'. No shaking or throat holds, just dig the muzzle in and chew. With larger foxes both shaken or throated then shaken. I guess the only differance seems to be where the initial bite was when they had hit the quarry. If it got knocked over onto it's back with the dog still on it then most of the times the dog would end up on the throat, if the dog hits it in the back as it bites down then it would usually crunch down on the spine/ribcage then shake.
  22. Would of thought almost all fit dogs that were 3/4 sighthound (grey, Saluki, etc) even if they were pets would take a fox on occasion and a few Roe. Just depends how much work their going to see and on what type of ground? For the larger species of deer, larger numbers of fox or any quarry on difficult ground, you need to start looking into the breeding a bit more and maybe look into getting a specialiy bred dog from working parents to have a better chance of success?
  23. Must be a record! only taken me about 2hrs to edit down all of footage to just the action bits!! I must be getting better! Thanks again for a cracking day out Chris, it was good being able to relax a bit and just watch Tess work, though she needs to learn to respect the longnets. When behind a Rabbit, she completely forgets there their! Here's the footage from today, Second Warren. Third Warren where the Rabbits kept 'Hole Hopping' Cheers again Luke.
  24. In theory it should help keep them warmer in the winter I guess? Though a rough coat doesn't nessesarily mean a weather/thorn proof coat. I've seen plenty of rough coated dogs about with hardly any undercoat at all, just the long wiry guard hairs. A dense/thick coat is much better than a rough coat....
