Pine Table Needs Sealing. What To Use?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
That's brilliant, thank you everyone for the advice! and cheers for the help mushroom! lol Leeview, I just checked out Morrells website and it might as well be in French! I haven't got a clue what I'm looking for! I tried searching for white polish but didn't find anything. I want to keep it as light/natural as possible. I've got some clear beeswax somewhere in the shed, so I'll dig it out and warm it up ready. Here's the table almost finished (my daughter wanted to use it straight away!) Picked up a solid pine coffee table for £15 off the same guy! so will do that at t -
It's bloody soaking round here, roads and fields are completely flooded. Managed to float the Subaru at the weekend! we got through but it was getting a bit bum squeaky at the time! The dog was sinking past her hocks when on the wheat and even on the higher ground, most of the wildlife has moved on/disappeared.

Pine Table Needs Sealing. What To Use?
bullmastiff posted a topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
I got a extending, solid Pine table and 6 chairs for £50 from a guy at work, whose's wife had painted it with white gloss paint then tried making it look distressed.... Needless to say she mucked it up! After I bought it, I spent two days sanding and tidying it up. Now it's all finished I want to seal the wood but need some ideas on what to use?? I'd like to keep it as natural looking as possible, so it doesn't get that shiny 'varnished' finish. Any ideas? -
Mine will enter water if a duck comes close enough to the bank but apart from that, they won't get in past their nipples!

Does Keeping A Dog Indoors Make It "soft".
bullmastiff replied to AverageJoe's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
It won't affect their working ability at all but they aren't half happy to see you in the morning if they sleep outside!. Kept indoors you've got to drag the buggers out the door for a morning walk! lol Only trouble with a dog in a kennel is they can be 'forgotten about' and left for long periods with no interaction with anyone. When their in the house their always 'in your face' so don't miss out as much. Horses for courses..... -
Phenomenal haul!! I could 'dib and dab' about different places down here all night and if we got 10-15 runs we'd be chuffed!! Congratulations to you and the dogs, they (and you!) must be in cracking shape.

Advice Please Guys
bullmastiff replied to pappabear's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
All Springer's are quite loud compared to a pcp. Fitting a silencer will only remove the muzzle noise but the spring/piston make most of the noise. A pcp has very few moving parts so with a Silencer fitted you can fire it in the garden and cause very little noise as the only noise they make is from the muzzle. As for servicing, the pcp doesn't have many moving parts at all. The only thing that can really go wrong are 'o' rings and you can pick up a whole 'o' ring set for about £9 I've serviced both my mates and my Springer which were both buggers to do and cost about £40. Also now done my pc -
Advice Please Guys
bullmastiff replied to pappabear's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Have a look at the Logun Solo's. pcp single shot but you can buy a mag to turn it into a 10 shot. for £12 I picked mine up brand new with Hawke scope, mounts, a Hill's pump, a ton of pellets, clleaning kit, rifle bag etc for just under £400 from Uttings.com. It's well worth shopping around for the right deals. -
Got to agree there, I can't get my head round a dog being scared of the dark. Is he the same if you take him out for a walk round the block? It may just be me being daft but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be hard to get him used to it by taking him for short lead walks where there is a bit of light and praising him constantly. Then once he's steady with that try him in the field As far as lamping ability goes the dogs still a pup, give it some time and he may well come good for you mate. You shouldn't praise a dog for being uncertain or anxious, their not kids, If it's a reason

Any photo's of it so we can check it out?

Been trying to search the site for info on this cross but it keeps coming back with nothing found, so I thought I'd just ask. Does anyone have a colliegreyxbullgrey that is either linebred or 2nd/3rd generation in other words a colliegreyxbullgrey put back to a colliegreyxbullgrey? I'm trying to see if it evens them out a bit, as this cross seems to throw the pups wildly to either side of the breeding and they rarely seem to throw to a reliable size, shape and working style. I like both crosses but would prefer something between the two if possible. I'm not after a pup right now a

It can cost between £100-£300 so definitely worth shopping around.

Strange how they put down 100,000's of healthy dogs down every year but one injured in a 'hunting' accident and they'll quite happily pay £8000 in medical bills....... Sounds like a load of shit to me.... Just using some random dog thats been found with a damaged neck to increase donations. Also, if someone witnessed the dog being used for coursing, then why doesn't it mention and witness names or if that the police are investigating......

There's one of them in the '@Bristol' science building. It's full of clever stuff like that. put your hand under the light and all your veins can be seen pulsing away. I didn't know they'd made it into glasses though! I'd really recommend taking your kids there if your down this way. You can get lost in there for a good few hours playing with the equipment.

Tess Not Well. Strained Something???
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks Paulus. It's still the same number as I've got here. Maybe it's his signal. I'll try again later. Lee, I've never seen a Mag box, let alone had the chance to put my dog in one! I've read that their good but never heard about them first hand or know anyone that has one. All my hunting friends are into shooting, so I haven't had anyone with experience in running dogs to learn from so I just potter away at it, hopefully learning from my mistakes in the field and reading/asking questions as much as I can on forums like this. Cheers. Luke. -
Sorry for my ignorance but the names mean nothing to me. Is Romeo a good dog or does he just throw good pups (or both?) and what's the differance between dogs like this and full Saluki's, are they faster but with less stamina?

Tess Not Well. Strained Something???
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Sorry for the late reply I had read your replies just not had a chance to post back. I gave her a weeks crate rest, then slowly brought her exercise back up to normal walks but on lead, so she had no free running until Sunday. She certainly seems better in herself and has been stretching herself out normally again in the mornings, which is something I hadn't even noticed she had stopped until she started doing it again. Normally when the crates opened, she'd stretch out her shoulders and yawn, then stretch out her back legs as far as she could, almost parallel with her spine and drag her to -
In case someone starts reading then jumps to make a comment, I have been to the vets.... Last few weeks she's been very occasionally yelping for no real reason, when pottering about the house or she's laying in bed etc. but seemed to be fine in herself, walking, running and eating fine. She had a bit of a hard night last Saturday with a few long runs on some really wet sticky ground (she was sinking up to her ankles) then a lot of work to do after the run before I managed to struggle over to her with the half ton wellies. Usually she'd be tongue hanging out for a few min's and ready to g

If you took him from not a lot of exercise, to a lot of exercise in a very sort period of time, you might of run the back off him (spine, ribs, and hips all appear as the muscle wastes away) Increasing the food amount will as you say just go straight through him, as he's not using any of it. Best quality food you can afford and plenty of rest. It can take awhile to get them back to a normal state.... Most cheap dog food are % filler, so the more filler you put in them, the more comes out! As the others said, it's protein he needs, in other words Meat!

Brilliant photo's as ever. It's lucky you had your retriever there to pick them wounded rabbits.... Tell your mate he needs more practice with the shotgun!!
