Anyone Rate A Pump Action For Wildfowling And Pigeons?
bullmastiff replied to man o kent's topic in Wildfowling
Think the big thing about pump's is the great reliability you get from them and the choice of cartidge you could poke through them but with semi's rapidily catching up on size and loads of cartridge it will take and the reliability of the gas systems getting much better, I don't see much reason for them anymore.... Friend of mine bought a beat up old three shot pump off the estate he works on as he enjoyed shooting it and they were getting rid of it. As an Estate gun it had been beat about no end and had thousands and thousands of cartridges put through it. It was always the first gun mos -
Stick them somewhere the flys can get to but that mammals/birds can't (and preferably away from the house!!) They'll have it pretty clean in no time. Then just scrub it clean with an old tooth brush and bleach it.

I'm hoping someone on here that owns an Escort semi-auto will be able to give me some info. I was looking at left handed Escorts at the Shooting Show on Sunday and noticed that although the action has been modified to left handed so the cartridges don't spit out across your face, the safety catch on them was still on the wrong side. You had to reach round the trigger guard to push it into the 'off' position before taking a shot. None of the sellers at the gun stalls (and there were some big retailers their too) had spotted this and were surprised when I pointed it out to them. They said

Feather, Fish And Free Food - New Recipes 07.02.14

I already do Rabbit burgers but I must admit, it's a bit bland!! I'll definately be giving these ones a go! -
So what were you searching for on the internet when you found that........

I use Tess for pigeon shooting, beating, rough shooting and also when out with the rifles. She's got a decent retrieve but will sometimes try to 'run in' whilst shooting. (my fault not hers). Not so bad when shotgun shooting but when your out shooting foxes and she won't stay still in the truck it can make it a bit harder to hold your aim steady!! She just gets a bit 'hot footed' waiting for the retrieve! I've tried using her to track a shot deer before that had got into a large wood but as I haven't trained her to blood trail, it didn't work (again, lack of training on my part not lack of ab

Nightmaster 800 is a really good light. You can change out the LED for different colours from White, red, green, orange or blue. You can also get an Infra red LED for it that works great with Nv or a camcorder. As it's the LED that's changing the colour not a filter, the beam goes a lot further than filtered light. Trouble is, there the best part of £200 for the entire 'Turbo' kit (with scope clamps etc). There's some decent deals about that can get the price down a bit though, so worth shopping around. I Wouldn't of thought many of the £20 LED lights will throw a decent enough beam to s

How Do You Find A Well Bred Pup?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I know you can get a good working dog from non working parents and a cr*p dog from working parents but by using properly tested parents then I'd hope you've got a better chance of getting a good pup that will do what you want... Time, training would obviously put into a pup and more importantly getting quarry in front of it, I'm not someone who expects a dog to come out a kennel only on the weekend and to catch. -
Depends if you've paid off your mortgage yet!!

How Do You Find A Well Bred Pup?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There's tons of dogs on the net that sound nice and look lovely but how do you find out if they actually work the parents? and also work them on what your after? If your after a Ferreting/lamping dog, theirs a lot of good litters to choose from. -
How Do You Find A Well Bred Pup?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Precisely! There lies my problem!! lol 24-26", got to be fast but still have a bit of weight about them to help put the breaks on... -
Second hand pair of Army boots and some gel insoles... Works a charm for me! lol Pick them up for £10-£15 online and will easily last you a season. You can get 10-12 pairs of them for the same price as a pair of them expensive boots! Lets see one of them Mendl or Lowa boots last 10-12 years of hard wear!

How Do You Find A Well Bred Pup?
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Time is one thing I do have, The Landlord here only allows us to have two dogs at the property and Tia is still pottering on so I've still got plenty of time to look. Distance won't ever be a problem either, I usually just throw the family in the car and go camping in the area for the weekend! It's finding the right planned breeding in the first place that I'm struggling with!! It doesn't help that I haven't really got a specific cross in mind, It's more the 'type' I'm after. Almost all my friends are into shooting of one form or another not Lurcher work, so I have very few contacts to tap up -
Suppose Your after a dog for a specific quarry, how would you go about finding a well bred pup? When people usually ask on here about which breed etc. a lot of people say 'Pick a Lurcher to Lurcher breeding where both parents are doing what you want' So... How do you find the dogs that are actually doing the job you want them for? Not a lot of people would be willing to talk on the internet about their dogs achievements (for obvious reasons) and asking to see the parents work is also I'd guess a no-no...

Ferreting On Sunday, Long Winded... With A Bit Of Video!
bullmastiff replied to bullmastiff's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yeah, I hadn't realised how much I shout at her until I started filming! I should give her more credit and leave her to get on with it really. I tend to shout a bit when Tess is right behind them, she's flattened Chris's nets a few times and I keep thinking she's going to break/rip them! Also on that last Warren there was loose Barbed wire strung through the hedge and three strands of tight Barbed wire on the far side that she kept bouncing off. She doesn't seem to care but I keep seeing the vets bills floating in front of my eyes!! lol -
Ferreting On Sunday, Long Winded... With A Bit Of Video!

Bloody hell, I didn't realise how long that was!!! sorry.... -
Both me and Tess had a pretty hard weekend last weekend. Lamping all Friday night, Saturday morning and walking bloody miles in search of some quarry. Home, quick kip, then back out on a friends permission for a days mooching and shooting. Saturday night I contacted a friend to see if he was out lamping and got the message back saying they were going first thing in the morning and to be at his for 3.30am. Unfortunately there was a good film on so I sat up past midnight watching that instead of being sensible and getting my head down!! We were in the fields by 4.00am and had a bloody good morn

I guess a half cross Bullmastiff is pretty weird....
-
I tried it once, attached the cam to her collar and just chucked a ball about to test it.. Basically it didn't work!! you couldn't see a bloody thing whilst she was running Think you need to attach it to a harness between their shoulder blades maybe??
-
I've had both, Tia used to milk up to the point of looking like a Phantom pregnancy after every season, but Tess has never shown any signs of her teats enlarging. I guess it depends on each dog? a bit like woman and their periods??

Always done as Forest of Dean said, If they have sloppy shit, then first thing I do is starve for 24hrs. let the body have a chance at getting the bad stuff out rather than just keep feeding it.... If it persists after the 24hrs, then it's not just an 'upset stomach' from something it's eaten. So you need to start looking at adding extra fibre, carbon or bones to it's food to help firm the poop again, and if it still persists then Antibiotics or the vet. Blood in the poo is never good, but if it's only a small amount then just keep an eye on it. If it increases then straight to the vet. By
