  1. seen on facebook a few times. There's groups that take ex layers from battery pens and hand them out to the public. There always looking for people to take hens. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find some for free.
  2. Think youve all summed it up perfectly. Massive thanks to kev for organising a great weekend. Big thank you to all the guys and gals that make it an amazing weekend. Banter was brilliant as always (think almost 60 litres of cider, a keg of ale and cans beyond count probably helped towards that too!!) Good luck to whoever organises next year!!! Paid the 45 owed to the just giving page
  3. I use Tess when beating/picking up. She's got a cracking retrieve and not to shabby on finding pricked birds (if a little hard mouthed on feather). Almost won a local field trial with her once! and she'll work a hedge as good as most Labs. She still goes Ferreting all through the season but due to past injuries and age isn't fast enough in the open anymore and limps for two days after. She still has it in her if needed to help clear farms of certain pest species as you don't really need speed for that. Took her Boar hunting but didn't get the chance to test her out unfortunately but I'm sur
  4. I guarantee if they start cooking when you phone ahead, Ozzie will of finished the lot by the time you pull up!
  5. I think usually you draw pegs at 9.00-9.30 then start fishing at 10.00?
  6. That would be me and Joe..... Same stuff as previous years as I know it was liked. Bringing 40 litres this time as there's a fair few of us.
  7. I might be turning up Friday if you need an extra pair of hands. If so I'd like to try the kayaking. I won't be able to fish the river sat afternoon as Lisa will be turning up with the kids. Im definitely fishing the comp.
  8. Have a look around and find the right size/price for you, something like this. https://www.ev-power.eu/LiFeYPO4-batteries-12V-1-1/Lithium-Battery-LiFePO4-12V-20Ah.html#tab1
  9. Have a look for LiFePo4 batteries. It's the new type of Lithium battery. Much more stable battery and because they aren't so hazardous their cheaper to manufacture so cheaper to buy.
  10. He's got show/walking sticks like the one's in the link above but no crooks made for working. He said he could cut and bend a green one now but it would take two years to season. If you don't mind a long wait he'd be happy to start it. He also suggested the alu ones are probably the best working crooks...
  11. Apparently the max distance a 50 cal will theoretically travel is 8800 metres....
  12. Can't find anyone whose shot .50bmg over 2500 metres, that's 75 metres hold over. 50 cal definitely wins in the distance stakes! Basically it's pure luck and a good spotter calling you on target
  13. Hold over for a .338 lapua not too far off 120 metres.... Basically dropping it in like a morter round!
  14. Amazing what you can do with a bit of 2 by 4 and some ply!
  15. Messaged him but think he's tucked up in bed! I'll reply back when he answers.
  16. My friend's a stickmaker now he's retired, he makes them. I'll ask him how much he sells them for.
  17. Bugger the cheap sharpeners. Bite the bullet and buy yourself a lansky sharpening kit. My dad bought one years ago and nw he's given it to me. Lasts longer than a lifetime. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lansky-Deluxe-Knife-Sharpening-System/dp/B000B8IEA4
  18. Illinois looks a bloody long way from Dallas! Bit of a shitter as we were going to fly to Chicago first but thought better of it as Dallas is closer. Bearinator, that would be great if you could. We land on Tuesday 31st October. The plan had been to be in arkansas for the 1-4th for bear hunting but the guy that was taking us died two weeks ago bless him so our plans have changed. Still planning on going to arkansas to visit friends but other than that as long as we're at LAX by the 13th we have no other plans (apart from drinking and sight seeing) Black streak, if you need a hand with the d
  19. A mate and I are off to America early November, flying into Dallas then driving up to Hot Springs in Arkansas to go hunting. Then spending about 10 days driving from there to LA. Anyone on here recommend places to stop (Hotels/Motels or sights that shouldn't be missed along the way). We'll probably be mainly driving the I40 across country. Anyone know of any hunting along the route that might be available? looking online, you have to pay a fortune to shoot a 'Trophy animal' but there's pest control done all over the country. Must be chances somewhere to tag along on a hunt??
  20. Sorry for late reply, I've been in forest of Dean. Thanks guys. I did consider moorhen but their nests are usually neater with smaller grasses added to firm a 'proper' nest. I'll let him know. Cheers again.
  21. My brother sent through these pics after an Id. I thought it was a coot nest but he said its on a bench near a busyish path round a large lake. I'm surprised if it was coot as their flighty birds at the best of times! And I can't imagine a hen sitting long enough to lay with people walking past? Any ideas?
  22. does the babby not have a name yet ffs He does but like Joe after a litre of that meths he drinks, he can't understand you and just wants hugs!!
  23. Think I've still got that coat from 2014 that got sold three or four times... I'll bring that along!
  24. I'm so sorry for your loss kev, I hope Martha pulls through. Thanks for the heads up, I've never heard of this happening before.
  25. I'll be there again this year. I'll have the family with me this time so probably won't be getting quite as plastered as last year! stumbling about in the dark trying to follow Kev and Jim. Lucky Max was sober or I'd of ended up in the hedge/ditch more than once! I presume most are staying Sunday night as well then heading off Monday? As there's almost thirty people this year, should I bring 40 litres of cider instead of the normal 20? What's the Charity this Year?
