Just checked out some prices, it's about £400-£500 each way for a car with 4 passengers and 4 dogs on the ferry to Santander or about £400 for fuel to drive + £170 for the ferry to Calais and back.

Only just seen this topic. Is there still any spaces free? Going to be a busy year for me this year but I'm certain I can make room on the calender!!! Tess has already got a passport.

Is The Hmr Really A 200 Yard Rifle?
bullmastiff replied to Elliott's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Also with a cross wind and at 300yds this guy managed 1 1/2" groupings... I guess getting the ammo that match's the gun certainly helps... -
Let's See Some Bigger Hounds - 25Tts +
bullmastiff replied to satan80's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Man I love them big dogs! What breeding's in your pup Satan? she's a cracking looking dog. How's the training coming on? I'm sure with plenty of quarry put in front of her, she'll learn to slow down a bit for the turns! -
I've bought the torch and the Convex Lense from that link but when I unscrewed the front housing for the LED I tried to unscrew the old lense out from the front housing but it won't budge? how do you remove the old lense from the housing? Thanks Luke.

Go for Standard pet insurance. You shouldn't have to use the insurance for bites, their relatively cheap to fix up. If you still want to claim then a 'Small Ginger dog attacked yours in the park whilst out walking...... on the lead' Insurance is probably more useful if the dog breaks a leg etc. then the bills would soon mount up.

I've got two of them, both have been through a lot of work for a fair few years and apart from a few fluffy bits where teeth, barbed wire and bramble has snapped some small bits of the weave, there looking fine? I can't believe a buckle would pull out??? They come with a lifetime guarantee so if they break through work then they get replaced for free.

Trouble is when most people talk about lamping from a 4x4 they picture a Subaru screaming across a stubble field and having 1/2 crosses thrown out the windows at quarry which will be left behind after the 'Chase' If your doing this I don't see why you wouldn't just run the bloody thing over! A 4x4 is just a means to cover more ground than you can when on foot, it doesn't mean you need to scream around the field chasing the quarry. I believe the majority of folk (as I sometimes do), mooch on at 10-15mph around the fields headland whilst lamping the field, spotting the quarry, stopping and

I don't know how you get away with having your dogs loose when all those deer are about!! lol I would lose my dogs within minutes!!

Anything above Bristol is classed as 'Up North' (and I'm not even sure about them Bristolians....) Your all bloody Northern Monkeys with weird accents....

When I was a Keeper she used to run by the side of the Gator all day when she was younger. She caught most quarry before the ban came in... More by cunning and surprise than anything else! lol

Find an empty field or Park and take him out on the lamp and practice his retrieving at night. Throw a dummy, shine it under lamp light and release him, when he's fetched it back then reward him with a nice treat, liver or chicken etc. (don't reward him until him returns to hand...) Dropping 10-20ft from you isn't acceptable. Just walk away from him until he comes close. Once he's got that down pat, change to as soon as he picks up the dummy, turn the lamp off, call him back as normal and give him the treat as normal. It's called conditioning. Food is usually the biggest reward for most dogs

You'd Need A Good Dog For This
bullmastiff replied to Cushty mush's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Photoshop definitely! there's no way he could hold a Hare that size with his elbow bent like that..... If it was real it would be about 40lb's in weight!! -

Preping And Eating What U Kill
bullmastiff replied to ryaldinhio's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
I don't think it really matters which way you hang it. Usually birds are hung by their heads with the guts still in and Rabbit/Hare by their back feet, gutted. It just needs to be cool, dark and dry wherever you hang your game. Hanging the meat will make it more tender but also increases the 'gamey' taste in the meat. My missus doesn't like it's taste when it's been hung more than a day or two. My Dad used to hang Pheasants until they went green. I couldn't stand the smell of it cooking let alone the taste!! Never bothered hanging a Rabbit unless I just didn't have time to prep them for -
I believe it's illegal to shoot birds by Lamp light. Even the pest species.

I think price is the biggest factor. If your rich then splash out on some of them George Digweed rated cartidges - Kent Gamebore Black Gold Pigeon Extreme. If not then just stick to the cheapies from the local farmers store like the rest of us! Usually 28grm 71/2's are the cheapest.

Try here - http://www.nobs.org.uk/html/beating.asp As Astral said easist way to join a Shoot is to go and find the keeper/shoot manager, introduce yourself and ask them if they have any places for a willing beater? Maybe put a post in the Gamekeepers section on this Forum asking if they know of any shoots in your area or if their willing to take you along. A lot of Estate's shoot on a week day, so if you can make that then it'll be a big bonus. If you manage to get on a shoot, the first thing you'll need is a sense of humour! if you take insults personally then beating isn't for you!

Looks like a cracking day out guys, shame I missed it!! I should of come Ferrreting with you guys instead of going to The Shooting Show! Only thing I bought all day was a bloody Pasty for £5
