  1. Just applied for variation on licence and wondering which to buy. Considering HW100 which I have already had in .177 (non FAC) and loved, Daystate Airwolf, Air Arms 410. Cheers
  2. Been out 3 times this week and the following happened after leaving a bait of dog food: 1st night...2 foxes turned up and missed them both...forgot to check zero and in the dark I didn't adjust enough to hit the target (was going for a head shot as only 25m away) 2nd night...waited 2 and a half hours and nothing...but no birds taken either! 3rd night...nothing until 3 hours into watch (11.45pm) and by that time the lamp was fading. Fox came from nowhere and ran right in front of me at a distance of about 10m! Disappeared and then I had to leave!! AAAggggghhhhhh....this is turning
  3. Thanks guys, lots of good ideas to try tonight. Let you know how I get on.
  4. Anybody get any thoughts on how to take out a particularly lamp-shy fox without me having to invest in night vision? He is a persistent raider of a local poultry man near me and attempts to lamp him have scared him off for each night I have tried although he does return the next night.
  5. Thanks for that Dan. I've spent ages looking on the internet now and there are some good deals to be had for both rifle and scope. I will also need mounts, moderator etc so it soon eats into my budget. It's onlt 2 weeks from the show now so going to take my cash there and see what bargains can be had! I like the look of Meopta scopes as they seem well made and slightly cheaper than Zeiss, S&B etc. Probably go for a fixed scope such as 7x56 or 8x56. Thanks for all the advice so far guys...much appreciated.
  6. Is it worth buying a decent second hand rifle and upgrading the parts?
  7. Yes I saw the review and liked the sound of it. Again, I thought the Newark show would give me a good opportunity to try some various makes out for size as have held Remmington X-bolt and found it to be really 'toy-like' when compared to the Tikka T3.
  8. Sounds like the scope is going to destroy my budget...but guess I will only buy once if it is built to last! What is your experience of 2nd hand scopes?
  9. Sounds like a new S&B scope is first to buy then. I will have a look at a selection of rifles at the show and see what suits. Cheers guys.
  10. Only got .223 on licence and probably won't go any bigger than this for some time. It's more the make and model of rifle that I'm interested in as so many to choose from and not many dealers have all makes to compare. Thanks for advice though
  11. If it's any consolation, I did go without Xmas, Birthday and Wedding anniversary presents this year so I think I'm entitled to splash out, especially since I have been after getting my licence for years! Having said that, the odd £20 note has found its way, on occasion into my savings mug...when the wife wasn't looking obviously!
  12. Thanks for the advice. Was going to go for S&B Hungarian 8x56 as prefer fixed mag scopes. I think this is probably going to be the only rifle I buy for the forseeable future so wanted to push the boat out. A company near me, Rhino Rifles offer custom builds to suit most budgets but thought I might also get a bargain at the Newark show. I quite fancy the Annie .223.
  13. I have recently been authorised to have a .223 for fox hunting and have about £1000 to spend on the rifle and about £500 on scope. I'm going to the Newark shooting show at the end of the month so can anyone recommend a suitable rifle please? I am considering Sako, Mauser and Remmington amongst others.
  14. Had my nterview last Friday so guess that beats 8 days!
  15. FAC came through today. Took 2 weeks from posting application to receiving it from Cheshire! Can't afford rifle yet so hoping Santa isn't suffering from the recession!!
