  1. you get out much with the two older dogs then mate? Was the border cross slow to enter?
  2. Are we talikng the new long range terrier finders from deben or just the mark III terrier finder, having looked at the deben web site there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between the long range and the B&F similar location distance, no interferance etc. just no directional arrows and a smaller transmitter, anybody used one? I've seen the B&F in action a few times, it seems to make life fairly easy, its just the two usual things that bug me, the price........ as if I buy one they'll bring out a better new and improved one within two months (you watch!) and also collar size, when
  3. Anybody have any opinions on optimum use of elctrolyte etc. Was talking to a mate the other day who knows a coursing lad that used to swear by electrolytes, before and after running, he then had kidney problems with two /three dogs and put it down to excessive use of electrolytes, the lad I was taliking to has never belived in using them. I myself use recharge on very few occasions....... on nights when the dogs have worked harder than normal or at the beginning of the season until they get into the swing of things! Also handy for the terriers after a particularly hard dig, just to pick them u
  4. They've been calling for about three weeks now round with us, interestingly dug two dog foxes at the weekend both big dogs in the same hole!
  5. Been perfect weather for it last two nighst here, went tuesday night with my young wheaten x bitch and she did me proud, took 8 out of 11 last run cut her stopper so few days rest for her! got amother phone call last night to have a shine. The only dog I've got fit was my girlfriends pure saluki, who incidentally only had her first nights cathcing last week, anyway she did me proud as well by taking 5 out of 8 rabbits as you can imagine i'm proud as punch with the pair of them and pleased we made the most of the weather!! Going out again with a mate who's starting his pup tonight, god, amen fo
  6. In addition you could try putting the coat you wear to take the dog out, over the fence you have at home once he's used to jumping the area where the coat is put it over the wire, gradually use the coat less and less. it may work if it is just a case of lack of confidence on the dogs part!

    WARNING

BLIMEY!! 307 thats a lot of people who don't post, I don't post very often either, but like to think when I do its worth saying.........which is exactly why I don't post very often!!
  8. Nice pup mate, I'v heard only good things about this cross, seen only two in action they were strong, game but sensible! Was it out of a bullx bitch or a salukix bitch, what are peoples thoughts on the influence of the mother or father etc on looks etc.
  9. Hi mate I've got a 3/4grey1/4wheaten she's 23 inch to the shoulder but very strong. She is very determined, head strong at times and has guts! stamina not great, is only 18months so yet to test all her capabilities but i'm happy with how she's shaping up! she is actually quite obedient and relatively easy to train (picks things up quick) unfortunately I got her at 11months and she hadn't doen much I'd like to think if I'd had her from a pup she'd hold her own obedience wise by now, lets just see what the next six months bring!! She can be quite firey(possesive) but as an genuine hunter with ple
  10. Hi mate I have no experience of the breed so I can't really say diidly!! I would of thought a 3/4grey 1/4 GSD would throw some quite big dogs especially when putting a 1/2 bred dog over a greyhound, what I mean is they may be a bit on the large size for your average ferreting/lamping dog, just my opinion mind! I think what you say is right about not breeding though, and buying off dogs that did what you were after,
  11. Just a quick question jigsaw.....was it out of a greyhound by a GSD dog? And if it were me i'd line it with a whippetgreyhound to bring size down a bit. Or try and find a 3/4greyhound 1/4GSD!!
  12. All the best to the rest of the familly Inan!! Looks like they going to need it!! Are you something to do with running the show mate? Hopefully see a few people there. Lets hope teh weather not too bad ey!!
  13. Inan if thats you in your avatar mate, you won't need to tell anyone where you'll be a lunch time, everyone will be monitoring your every move from the moment you get out your car!!!! May get there on sunday if we get back from nights lamping in yorks on saturday night!!
  14. Well everyones different mate, I'm sure this post will demonstarte that but I think a lot of the answers will be the same, me personally Temprement- very important to me has to get on with all the other dogs nose- got to be able to find in a big spot sense- the sort of thing like when a lurcher 'runs cunning' a good dog has to be able to know whats its working and devlope its own technique(hard to explain) Most importantly the prespective parents must have been tried and tested over a good few seasons and proven themselves time and again confirmation is last on my list, i don;t care what
  15. Seen both dogs (not in action mind) but very nice stamp of dogs, strong powerful and sharp.
  16. Mine are on carpet in their beds during hot summer months have just put straw down for them in the last week, not too thick as the weather is beginning to vary a little! Come winter they get a real thick bed of OAT straw, the same as hunt kennels use for hounds, don't know why I'm afraid but if its worked for them for so long, it'll work for me! I do know its hard to get hold of I get mine from the only farmer that does it within a 15mile radius and he only does it to supply teh kennels!
  17. I second sandymere! SHE'S A CRACKER!! is she out of a greyhound bitch to a staright bull dog?
  18. How true. . . ? Some interesting, if slightly cynical thoughts! THE SQUIRREL REST OF THE WORLD VERSION: The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building and improving his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the squirrel is warm and well fed. The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. THE END THE BRITISH VERSION: The squirrel works hard in the withering heat all sum
  19. Don't think anyone can better Wilkys post in answering your question mate, everything mentioned is bang on!
  20. i'll be there, i'll be the one falling out with the mrs over which way the tent shuld go and in the mean time the two lurchers will have got scared and run off, so then i'll be the silly get bellowing across the peak district generally providing masses of amusement and making a fine start to what should be a fantastic weekend!!!
  21. is kev s still on the scene Don't think so, not showing scene as such, still does the work for neighborouring pack.
  22. Terrier & Lurcher Show Usual Classes Open Day BBQ Bar Sunday Sept 10th
  23. Unfortunately I have to clip one of my terriers as he's inherited a bad coat from one side of his line. This means when stripped his skin bleeds. I wish I didn't have to cos as someone rightly pointed out it gives him a fine silty coat which is not very weather proof (doesn't affect working ability I hasten to add!!). I only do it once a year mind, and it don't seem to bother him that much. He gets taken out back of van, put in a hole dug to, taken out then gets put back in a nice warm kennel after a good rub down!! Jobs a good un! Guess what I'm trying to say is should always strip if you can
  24. Hard lines mate, best of look with him, I'm sure he'll do good. Saw a dog out same litter as yours at selby this year again very strong dog!
