  1. I shoot scemmies (ferrel) pigeons in the farm biuldings and use a terrier to retrieve them dead or alive.can't see how you would use a spanial other than find flush and retrieve and if you can shoot flushed quary with an air rifle you are a bloody good shot.So yes i think you are asking to much from yourself and the dog.atb.

  8. WHY ? sorry just realised i've started to do what i was trying to hi light and that is squabbling amongst ourselfs .CHALKWARREN I aimed the comment at the topic starter who was telling us about the shooting of lurchers he did not witness ,and as most lurcher men know each other in their area i am surprised that he could not check out the facts with his mates and post the shooting of lurchers as a fact and not as hearsay atb.
  9. Has sombody had a dog shot ???if so tell us the facts not the hearsay. This topic comes up often .Is it me or is there a few topics on here today that are old chestnuts that we all know will wind up people enough to start putting down other folks ideas of hunting . As said before with friends like this who needs enemys
  10. MONEY TALKS especialy with MP,s we should wind up the manufacturers importers and retailers of shooting related gear and services ets together they probably will be able to hire a good parlamentry lobbyist .Iwill start a list of with vets agricultural merchants clothing manufacturers gun makers just to name a few anyone reading this could add many more .No disrespect to all the field sports organisations but they only represent ordinary folk and lets face it your average MP could'nt care less about them .they like to please the people with money and power in the hope that some of it will come

  14. cheers langourroux i use a bipod off the bonnet of the motor but when standing i have to rest on a post or tree only have to do this when i use a moderator and most times i feel awkward doing this so sticks seem as if they could help .DIY SOUNDS GOOD TO ME in my opinion the sticks i have looked at don't offer value for money so if anybody has bought sticks and think they are a good buy lets know.
  15. anyone used them in the field anygood? GOOD AND BAD POINTS is there such a thing as a cheap set.
  16. JUSTwondering if we all use the same whistle pitch on all breeds of gundogs the lads i know with spanials seem to favor 210 1/2 or 211 1/2 .i don't use a different one just for a stop whistle.some questions (1) do you think the dogs can tell who is blowing the whistle if they are all the same pitch (2) do some people use a different whistle to stop the dog .(3) how many sources of infection do you think your whistle comes in contact with (4) do you clean and sterilise yours(5) is the depth of the teeth marks in the whistle an indication of how good a trainer you are.(6) does anyone know where
  17. treats a last resort you could be building problems for the future like spitting out a retrieve before delivering it to hand as the dog is expecting to eat a treat.plus the dog could become a bit of a potterer when hunting allways looking to you for a treat instead of nose down and hunting the theory is the retrieve after the find and flush is all the reward the dog wants.I am not saying treats don't have their uses but be carefull don't over do it. atb.
