most people breed at 12 months....so i8 is a better age, personally id wait till 2 however no harm will come from it!!! breeding from pups is WRONG! do you think it's a good bet that this owner wants to or will have pups up for sale in 3 months time or have i got it wrong.
-
No people i know breed from a 12 mth bitch at that age they are still training it.if you are breeding at this age then its for money not the wellfair of the bitch .Even though the bitch can have pups at this age it is still only a pup itself.this i why we have so many unwanted dogs people breeding without any real idea what they are doing.
-
to make sure you must seperate them for all the bitches heat not just the 14th day or you will end up with pups and at 18 mths she's to young

USE THE OUTER PATH OF THE OLD WHEEL BEARING TO DRIFT THE SEAL INTO THE HUB .The brake problem could be the master cly if not a fluid leak press the brake and have someone look inside the m/cly resevoir to see if their is any disturbance in the fluid if so could be fluid getting past seals the disco has a load valve pressure regulater mounted on the inner wing of engine compertment you may have to block off this valve if you can do it then check pedal if hard then it could be load valve itself.

WHAT came first the chicken or the egg .OK now we have two camps one thinks a gundog has to find live quarry within killing distance and the others go for it finding wounded or dead quarry. So in my way of thinking if your dog is good enough to find live quarry that is evading detection then if the dog has basic retrieving skills it should be a secoundery task to bring back the quarry. As i have said before working the dog to hunt out game to me is more exciting than the retrieve but if retrieving is your thing then a picking up dog is what you should have or not a gundog at all but maybe

I used to handle the dog onto the retrieve but after so many times when i think i've handled the dog onto the area of the fall and the dog can't find it then as i've called the dog back often it would find the retrieve itself so i still use hand signals in training, but all i do now to help the dog find is to tell the dog to get out as i use spaniels i some times have to use the command a few times until the dog takes a line and stop quartering.

Question about joining a syndicate
hily replied to Nik_B's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Nic on the face of it sounds good but you'v got to ask a few more questions of the syndicate is it only through the week how many in syndicate how many beating days are you expected to do. How many work days expected .THIS ALL ADDS TO THE VALUE OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE SHOOT FOR EXAMPLE THE SHOOT WOULD EXPECT NORMALY TO PAY ABOUT £25 PER DAY FOR A BEATER .Is their enough ground to shoot over if they have let days aswell as the syndicate .Nic i am not trying to put a damper on your enthusiasm but do look into it as some shoots can take the pee out of keen lads.If you can talk to someone wh -
Sorry to say but chasing is what collies do .As instucted before basic training plus less freedom you could try an old metherd tie a washing line to the dogs coller make it sit and stay messure out the lenght of line and stand where it stetches up to call the pup up to you get down on your knees and realy encourage it and just when the pup reaches the end of the line shout stop or blow a whistle as the line pulls the dog to a sudden halt don,t over do this as the dog will twig onto this trick hope this makes sense to you and helps.

Dan A good arguement and some valid points (water retrieves)but as a man who likes to work a dog on a rough shoot my dog has to hunt and flush within gunshot anything else is a waste of effort if i cant shoot it the dog has nothing to retrieve .Iam not saying that retrieving is not important but for me its not the most important asset for my dogs.atb .

The description "Gundog" covers a broad spectrum and I can understand it if someone only experiences driven game, coastal wildfowling or pigeon decoying to think of a gundog as a retriever only because that is the only task required. However for the vast majority of shooters the dog has to be dual purpose with the primary role being finding and flushing game within range for shooting with retrieving being secondary. Maybe the author of the piece has had limited experience and never seen a dog flushing rabbits/woodcock/pheasants from thick cover. Thats my point he is a trainer he has writ

Think you should ask your VET!.

I think you both hit the nail on the head it depends on what type of dog you have but this article doese not mention any type just gundogs in general so if you are new to the gundog world you may take the statement that a gundogs main function is to retrieve as been a fact.I think that this article should have been writen for people who use their dogs mostly for picking up .Do you think trainers put a lot of energy into getting a dog to retreive with style because this is what potential buyers see the dog doing when they are in the shooting line or is this just me being nasty.
-
Stuck inside so had a read of a couple shoot mags in the gundog section of one mag a trainer has written that the dog finds and flushes game but it's primary function is to retrieve shot game and more importent to retrieve wounded game to be humanely dispatched. Now this trainer has probably forgoten more about gundogs than i will ever know but a disagrea with his statement and i am being honest when i say for me a gundog must first find then flush quarry within gunshot and this is its primary role.I don't know if the writer of the article has added the humanley dispatching bit to justify the

Pulled the plug on two walk and stand days this season high winds on one low cloud and mist on another.also pulled out half way through a day heavy snow ! NOW not sure about a walk-about day as the snow is deep and someone could trip up very easly accident waiting to happen .Lads say it's ok and its up to me but i know not everybody is happy about loosing days all the lads work so sats are the days we go out and now not many left in the season. Now i only run this shoot and part time keeper it to enable me to raise the rent money for the shooting rights so can't refund any money what would you
