hi mate, adding up everything including the screw-cut it has set me back exactly £1515 which has bust my balls a tad but it should be worth it. that doesnt include the £550 i spent on reloading equipment so my wallet's hurting a bit

i've just got back from Cornwall and my mounts had arrived so i put the scope on and these are the results. i know its not the flashiest or expensive set-up but it cost me a s**t load of money so i'm happy with what i have. its a remington 700 sps dm in .243Win witha bushnell elite 4200 6-24x50, predator 8 and deben swivel bipod. I LIKE IT. however i'm now definitely broke. Cheers, Jack

i know it probably won't help you but the most accurate way would be to chronograph the velocity yourself, using either your own or borrowing one from someone you know. it'll be far more accurate than any posted on the internet. too many variables possible. ATB, Jack

fire arms officer coming round tommorow
arveyboy replied to desi22007's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
well to start with if you ask for a 177 rimfire your credibility will be lowered somewhat. you want to ask for a .17hmr. do some reading up on this calibre to show that you know what you're talking about. with mine it was a completely informal chat and cup of tea so as long as you know what you're talking about and you have good reason then you shouldnt have any problems. he/she will ask about your history of firearms, your reasons for needing to possess one ect ect. however, i seriously think you should read up a bit on the .17hmr because if you dont know the calibre you want then your c -
i got a call from Peter on Friday saying he's done the cut. absolutely fantastic job from what i can see so highly recommended. he also showed me some of the rifles he's made and shoots. two identical rifles, one a 22/250 and the other a 22.4000. feeeeeeeeeeeeeking heavy beasts but they're awesome rifles. anyway the predator 8 is now sitting on it and i'm getting really annoyed because all i'm waiting on is the mounts so i'll post some pics when they arrive on monday hopefully

no need to come to hasty conclusions. i'm conditioned for deer and i don't have dsc 1 or 2. although i do have a mentoring condition for the stalking

where does it say at any point that he's only condition for range work?

i reckon anyone who can get their rifle to group 1/2 MOA at 100 yards for hunting purposes only is on to a winner. in real terms, you don't need anything better than that because there really is no need. of course alot of people want to get the best accuracy they can out of their rifle but if you're happy with your accuracy no need to do anything about it.

no mate the US army use, amongst others, a rifle based loosely on the remington 700 but each one is customised to each soldier's needs. the British army have recently traded in their old rifle for this as a standard issue. http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/support-weapons/1459.aspx

no worries matey, make sure you do some research before taking the plunge. the last thing you want to do is end up with a rifle you don't want. you'll be suprised how much you learn just from this site. ATB, Jack

the simple answer is yes if placed in the correct place but i very much doubt you could find anyone on here who would condone it. i have a .17hmr and a .243. one is a rimfire the other a centrefire. in lehmans terms to put it into perspective the .17hmr has around 245ft/lbs of power and the .243 has around 2000. its also not legal to shoot deer with anything less than a calibre of .240 unless shooting muntjac or CWD in England where .22 centrefire is acceptable. if you want to shoot deer then a rimfire is no good for you.

i just visited Peter Frenette today in Cambridgeshire to get my .243 screw cut and he was very helpful. really nice guy and he said he'd do it for me in the next couple of days so i shall wait and see but i have a feeling i shall highly recommend him considering his background. thanks for the posts recently advising where to get it done. pictures will be up of the finished article

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH fox hunting is cruel BLAH BLAH. it has absolutely no effect on my life but i want to change the law because killing foxes is cruel. look how cute they are, how can you even think about killing another animal. ooo a nice juicy fillet steak, im glad that doesnt come from animals. :realmad: :realmad: :realmad: :realmad: :realmad: I hate the fact that the antis are campaigning against a way of life for many people when the only effect it has on them is poor foxy woxy being killed. for many people, including yourself Andri one fox can ruin a mans day, week, month,

arveyboy replied to danebrewer10's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance

Blue tips on .17 HMR ammo?
arveyboy replied to danebrewer10's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
i bought some yesterday. £4 cheaper than the rest of the stuff and they shoot consistently sub 1/2 MOA so they'll do for me -

i've heard the British army is phasing the .17hmr in as their widely accepted sniper rifle. the .338lm just doesnt hold enough energy out past 50,000 yards to be killing with the first shot. the .17hmr is so wind resistant and flys so flat that its getting kills all the way out to 25 miles
