  1. cheers for the constructive post mate. does the red filter dim the brightness down significantly beacause im using a tracer max lamp and its already not hugely powerful. would an amber filter fare well?
  2. and then what mate? do you have a rifle to dispatch it with because we all know UK law forbids us from killing foxes with a dog. don't judge the rifle boys on their way of hunting. at least its within the confines of the law
  3. as it says on the title, does anyone have any tips for getting lamp shy foxes. im heading out with the keeper this evening before dark to sit out for one because theyre all lampshy at the moment. would different filters do the trick? cheers, jack
  4. sorry to steal your thread mate but snap that looks like a fantastic value deal for only $. is there a catch to it?
  5. ive got the nighteater on my hmr minus the ir and find it ideal for lamping. plenty of light under a lamp. not sure why you want more mag on it though. i never go above 6x zoom unless target shooting but each to their own
  6. different thing mate. .17hmr is a rimfire. think hes talking about .17 rem fireball. could be wrong. ive got no experience of them mate. if ur looking for a low calibre centrefire why not .204 ruger? ive heard some good accounts of them. Mr L had a bad experience with one but doesnt mean you will.
  7. best advice i can give you is do lots of research before you enquire about it. find out what rifle you want, ballistics of the rifle, rifle safety ect ect. good luck
  8. no mate where abouts is he situated. i'm using John Bradshaws which is in Cotterstock and he's great but just having problems getting bullet heads http://www.normanclark.com/opening_page/opening_page.htm cheers spangle ill give them a ring today. had a quick look in the cabinet at Bradshaws, £35 for federal premiums  glad im reloading
  9. shame im looking for the hornady 58g vmax so he won't be able to post them to me. any chance he'll be able to post them to Bradshaws. also, good powder for the vmax? varget??? ive got the vit n150 at the moment
  10. no mate where abouts is he situated. i'm using John Bradshaws which is in Cotterstock and he's great but just having problems getting bullet heads
  11. this could just be my firearms dealer but ive had some 58g bullet heads on order from him for a good month now and hes having huge problems stocking them. usually he's brilliant with everything but he said he's having really big problems stocking any bullet heads at the moment and they just aren't being delivered. so for all you reloaders out there...are you having problems ordering in bullet heads or is it just me. im in northamptonshire by the way
  12. i planned to go out lamping last night but it was sillyyy windy and it was so bright. ive never seen a night so bright in all my many many many 18 years
  13. thats a great shot by anyones standard mate. just wait for the keyboard a**holes saying they could have got it first time.
  14. i got my rimfire at the dandy age of 17 with absolutely no problems at all. like you i already had a fair amount of experience with firearms so it was pretty simple. 8 very simple days actually. has to be some kind of record. if you dont want to wait until january send off for it now and ask for co-terminous. it worked fine for me even though your certificate isnt up for renewal yet. your choice mate but bon chance
  15. out lamping last night with a mate. not much to tell. shot 54 then stopped counting so pretty good for 2 hours work. also, stood about 10 yards away from a muntjac buck with an absolutely fantastic head so i'll be going out with my .243 very soon. ill try and get some pics up next time
  16. Hague Convention. you learn something new every day. i thought it was the geneva convention as well that prevents the use of expanding ammo. obviously not
  17. 1) Happy you concur. 2) Happy you concur 3) That would be illegal 4) Happy you concur John no it wouldn't.
  18. i love the rifle mate. whats the setup? semi-custom or custom?
  19. not trying to BS anyone mate. i'll be the first to admit i know sod all about piunt guns except one of my mates knows someone who has one and sent me a pic of him with his punt. thus the pic :icon_redface: i just assumed you'd be able to lever the gun into the air to shoot at passing flocks. i stand corrected :notworthy: they do say you learn something new everyday
  20. i've been a 'fly on the wall' so to speak on this whole episode with you shooting fawns and the results that entailed. however, it seems to me that people havn't grasped the true aspect of what deer stalking is. arguments have stemmed from the relatively sensible, 'cutting deer populations is best done with does at the beginning of their season' to the not so sensible 'you're a f*****g p***k f**k off' and the ridiculous view that deer deserve more respect than foxes and rabbits because they look prettier. Deker i just want to say that i completely agree with what you had to do on your est
  21. i've been off the trail a bit recently due to holidays and the like. but dont worry everybody i'm back now. i know you will have all been worried sick. Been buying this for the past couple of months and i've finally got it all together. im also in the process of joining my local rifle club so i can really work up a good load for it. remington 700 sps dm in .243 Winchester with a Bushnell elite 4200 6-24x50 & predator 8 mod
  22. no this is a punt gun. i think they tend to be used on the estuaries for waterfowl. basically throws a load of steel into the air at flocks at bring down dozens at a time.
  23. thats exactly the plan but definitely not anytime soon. i need money for the summer.
  24. i got the scope for £500 but i'm sure you could get a better deal if you looked reeaaaaaally hard. optically it looks pretty good and i couldn't afford to spend more.
