nice pic mate. looks like a nice buck, is there a story behind it?
-
try posting it in the air rifle section mate you may have a bit more luck with it
-
well the roast venison haunches last night were fantastic. i've had venison before but it has a really rich taste to it. very tasty. i guess it would have been even nicer if i'd let it hang for a couple of days but i had no choice as im off to uni today. cheers for all the replies and yes im pretty sure i've got the bug.

yes mate it is. cal is .243. does the job

we headed out this morning at about 6 30 to try for a muntjac. it was a cold morning and there was a slight mist which was annoying . anyway 5 minutes in we spotted two on the corner of a wood about 300 yards away so we slowly stalked up with the wind in our favour. one of the does disappeared into the hedgerow but the other stayed around so i set up the bipod at about 120 yards away and took it with a hear/lung shot. it dropped on the spot and i breathed a sigh of relief. im still buzzing from it and there are currently two haunches roasting in the oven. don't blame me for the

its a french partridge mate. difference between that and an English partridge is that the french has red/pink legs, more colouring compared to the English, and flies differently to the english. the english partridge also calls in flight whereas the french doesnt. good way to quickly identify the two

hes getting too old, cant see shite in the lamp :whistling: ive got a lamping partner anyway just thought i'd give him a go. im actually hoping he'll get a certificate sorted because i'm off to uni tomorrow and won't be able to use the rifles at all until i'm back so if he could keep up the numbers that would be great. hes a crap shot though

i headed out on the lamp with my dad last night because he's been wondering what all the fuss is with rifles and why i seem content to spend silly amounts of money on equipment. so i thought i'd take him out for half an hour or so to lamp some rabbits. we managed 12 all together and picked up 9 so average bag but he managed 4 himself so he was happy. think ive given someone the bug

nice read mate, shame about the silver missing a gold but then again as you say it held no good memories for you. nice buck though. looks like you have some good bucks about. i've got some good bucks on my permission and headed out yesterday evening but to no avail. i'll be heading out again this evening so i'll keep you posted.

getting my mentoring condition removed
arveyboy replied to arveyboy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
cheers for the posts lads. ill ask my mentor to write a quick letter then go in with everything today. ill keep you posted on the situation. -
some of you may know that i have a closed FAC with a .17hmr and a .243 but with a mentoring condition attached to the .243. so now that i have had the .243 for about 5 months now i rang up my constabulary and asked whether it would be possible to get the condition removed. they told me to send it in and they will review the situation and send me my certificate back again. the only problem is with this postal strike i dont want my certificate getting lost in transit and i'd preferably like to get it done quickly so i can get out with the rifle before i go off to uni. what im wondering then

I'll let you know when I get them. Over the phone that dealer said £21/100 IIRC. Will have to wait now though due to a misundstanding with the cops - the FO said I could have a magnum, but when my ticket came it only had 22RF. When I went to pick the magnum up the dealer said I know this is technically 22RF, but it should say 22WMR. I said call the FO, he said I believe you. So now when they get my bill of sale they say my ticket needs altering... Basically I need to wait for the ammended version to get back so I can pick the ammo up! thats shoddy work by your constabulary

Another brace ...........
arveyboy replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
:toast: mate that made me laugh alot. good read as always fd. its always sad when you dont get a clean kill. contrary to popular belief i'd bet the majority of hunting peoples are not mindless killers -
both my rifles are synthetic. i find them far more practical, slightly lighter and considering i use them in the field i wouldnt want a wood stock which could easily scratch and de-value. i think that as an everyday rifle most people would generally agree that synthetic is more practical. however, if i could afford to have a beautifully made wooden stocked rifle that was used for the very occassional memorable stalk then i would. personal preference as ever

if you did get .243 granted you would have restrictions on it - probably not allowing you to use on your own....its a real pain in the arse mate! going for the .22LR at first as previously said is a good starter. when i first applied for my licence i got .308 approved but it has to be used woith an "experienced centr fire user" other wise known as anyone with an open FAC. ps: who is this monkeys banging on about lurchers? f*ck off mate, most of us have seen and done work with lurchers......i love dogs and especially lurchers, but what the f*ck are you going on about? foxes etc, again
-
jesus not you again. stick to the fecking lurcher section and stop making ridiculous comments. i could say that you do feck all to your sport but i dont. plus its not legal to dispatch fox with a dog anyway mate i use a .17hmr for rabbits, crows pigeons etc and a .243 for fox and deer. although yet to get my first blood with that. whats your quarry mate? easier to know you need to get

thumbhole stock on a regular hunting rifle
arveyboy replied to lordarpad's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
yes i really want one when i can afford it. all based on preference mate -
i was out lamping rabbits the other night with a couple of mates. me shooting, one driving the other lamping and picking up the rabbits. because theyre going to the butchers i was only allowing for headshots and the regular occurrence was to see them with not much head left unless i was significantly over 100 yards. thats fine because it meant 'clean' kills. one thing i saw made me feel very weird however. i shot one rabbit, around about 90 yards, seemed like a more than acceptable headshot at the time and it popped up into the air like they usually do. drove over to collect it and rather

mate the bug can be a very good thing but i got it about a year ago. about 3 grand later im broke but loving it. never look back bud

at the end of the day this is a political argument. there are obviously other factors but the driving force is political and its the men in suits at Westminster who we need to get to in order to protect our rights as pursuers of fieldsports. by appealing to our MP's in a 'protect our rights or stuff your job' kind of way we can stop this from happening. now i have no idea how many people there are in this country who pursue one kind of fieldsport or another, but its times like these when we need to be united as a hunting community rather than have our petty arguments between different discipli

hi jamie im not using a filter at the moment just white light. ill get a piece of film over the lamp. however got a mate coming over tonight going lamping bunnies and even they are starting to run in the lamp so his amber lamp might do the trick.
