  2. dan smiff have you got the cz in .22 or .17 hmr? my FEO said it should actually be done very quickly because they have an unusually low number of applicants to deal with. the rest of the process was done very quickly so im quietly confident about it cheers for the replies lads has been helpful. was thinking of getting the cz then spending a bit more of the budget on good glass. any ideas? something around £300 perhaps. i originally had a budget of about £150 but ive been saving up since i actually sent off the application so what better to spend the money on?!
  3. had my FEO visit last night. went really well. he was satisfied with the cabinets and seemed more than happy with my experience shooting. he told me i should have my certificate within a week so i will keep everyone posted. just out of interest, i've recently been looking at the savage 93R17-BTVS in .17hmr and it looks like a great rifle. i did have my eyes set on the cz style which seems great but i do love the thumbhole stock design and it feels really nice to grip. would anyone be able to compare the two. obviously the savage is almost £200 dearer but i've also heard great things about the
  4. no worries then mate i thought you were going to try and pass that off as a cabinet. if its securely fitted then fine but, as dicehorn said it might be best to remove the lock on the outside. no need for it to be honest. best of luck mate
  5. you might struggle getting that approved mate. would be very easy to get into
  6. didnt know that. my dad has an sgc and is renewing it currently. im going to get my sgc sorted soon but i just assumed that you would need to do the same with shotguns as you would with an fac. cheers
  7. ok thanks for clearing it up. the intent on getting an fac shotgun was originally to use it for pigeon decoying but i thought i might check as to the rules with wildfowling. didnt want to break any laws. im not made of money so i might apply for a variance on my shotgun cert instead. thanks for all the helpful information everyone. regards, jack
  8. i have to say i wasnt aware of that if it is true. wag?
  9. im applying for my fac at the moment including .17hmr rifle and have been thinking about inlcuding fac rated shotguns for the extra cartridge capacity. my dad owns a pond perfect for duck flighting which we have been feeding for a while now and i currently use a 20g beretta for duck flighting. i feel however that i could do with the extra shot or 5 so is it worth getting an fac rated shotgun or do most people find a 3 shot semi-auto is perfectly adequate? regards, jack
  10. thats what i would have thought but its literally for pigeon shooting. maybe thinking of getting a second hand one. i dont intend to sell it either so that wont be a problem. regards, jack
  11. ye semi-auto. dont see the appeal of a pump action in realistic terms for shooting due to loss of reload time and shooting position apart from the fact its a pump action (might appeal top some people ) yes 5 or 7 shot. as many as possible basically. does anybody find that using a moderator is at all effective? cheers jack
  12. im currently applying for a firearms certificate for .17hmr and firearms standard shotguns 12g. was just wondering which shotguns everyone uses and chambered for how many shots. i have a budget of under £500 so any help would be great..cheers jack
  13. one of my referees got a letter from my licensing department with regards to my fac application (northamptonshire police). the letter said that they were unable to process the application until they got more information with regards to my personality and attitude towards rifles. i have no criminal convictions so that can't be it. i also received a number of phone calls from them saying that they didnt have a 4th photo, even though they probably lost it. they then complained once i sent another photo in that the signature did not match the one on the referee form which it obviously did. i've he
  14. sorry...forgot i was in the pigeon shooting and decoying section..anybody know how to move a topic?
  15. was talking to my old man this evening and he was saying that his dad my grandfather (who has stopped shooting now) is in possession of one of a pair of holland and hollands. apparently my uncle owns the other one but my dad gave up shooting for a while and gave it to my grandpa. my grandpa, being odd shoots with his right eye on his left shoulder so he had the stock bent. hopefully, it will be returned to a regular stock soon so that my old man can have it back. can't wait to see it was just wondering whether anyone had the privelege of owning one or a pair. thought it was an interesting
  16. i hadnt been shooting in a while so this evening i decided to go out duck flighting for half an hour or so to see what i could get. brought the old man along with me as well to show him how to shoot anyway we arrived at about half past five and dad went round one side of the pond while i stood the other side so he could flush what was in the area out. no less than 90 mallard and teal flew out in every direction but mine. oh well at least it was going to be a busy nights shooting. we then set up and waited for a while knowing that we wouldnt see much for a good twenty minutes. ok t
  17. i was just wondering if anybody has an fac and how long it took them to receive their certificate from the moment it was all sent off. are the northants police any good with this? jack
  18. does anybody live in Northamptonshire and hold an FAC? if so how long did it take you to receive your certificate from the moment you had everything sent off? regards, Jack
  19. tried fitting my cabinet under the stairs this evening. :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: too bloody big to fit in round the corner. stupid thing. means i now have to go and get 2/3 gun cabinet and sell the monster we have currently :wallbash:
  20. no unfortunately not. i need to fork out about 40 quid for an ammo safe. i will hopefully get that installed before the FEO comes to visit so one i can get on and (hopefully) get my fac more quickly and two so that the FEO can visit other people rather than waste time having to come back to ensure its fitted correctly. does anyone live in or near northamptonshire. how long does it take roughly? ive heard some can have their fac within a few weeks whereas others wait months.
  21. cheers for all the info. very informative posts cheers. ill speak to the FEO when he comes for a chat
