  1. there was a bloke at my local dealers the other day when i went to pick up some ammo. we got chatting and he reloads for a .308 for range shooting. he was there buying (i think) 190 grain tips and says they work great for him. shows that some people use the heavier bullets but its probably easier when you're reloading jack
  2. 194 yards with a .22 is a hell of a shot by anyones standards. one of my mates shot a bunny at 170 yards and he was pretty pleased with it
  3. purely out of interest. everyone has that one shot (whether it be with a shotgun or rifle) that they will always remember. not necessarily the longest shot you've ever succeeded with. mine was on a driven pheasant day, second drive i must have shot a dozen birds. however there was only one which was particularly hard. there was a large flush and i had a right and a left bird. as i was reloading i made the huge mistake of looking up and saw an unusually high cock bird for our area. of course i panicked and only managed to fit one cartridge in. purely out of instinct i took aim, fired an
  4. cheers for the help. thats what i thought but i wanted to check to be sure. still, i may buy a box of them if i ever get a chance just to see how they group. thanks for the replies jack
  5. www.opticswarehouse.co.uk they retail for £279 which is probably the price you find on most websites. on this its about £255 but theyship them in from america so it could be a problem if you want it before christmas cheers jack
  6. no worries mate ill get one written up as soon as ive done some zeroing. it wont be very professional but there is a good one on www.snipercentral.com jack
  7. im just interested to see what the majority of .17 hmr owners use. i know that out to longer ranges, the .17 hmr is quite badly affected by wind so does anybody use the 20 grain ammo instead? jack
  8. i just ordered this with the hope that it will arrive on tuesday (fingers crossed). i was going to go for the illuminated reticle but ive looked through an ir scope and i have to say it didnt do alot for me. aside from looking cool i personally couldnt validate paying another £60 for a feature i wont use. before i annoy people i just want to say that thats my personal opinion. i dont want another debate about the use of IR reticles. ill be fitting the scope on tuesday so ill put some pics up when its on. jack
  9. oh thats perfect i was under the impression that i would have to re-zero for every range. that makes it much simpler. do you know if the falcon menace 4.5-18x56IR has that set up. it looks to me as though it does but i want to make sure before i buy it here cheers jack
  10. i have been recommended falcon actually and it looks pretty good. i also havnt heard a bad thing about them but have heard a few bad things about MTC. so with the turrets on the falcon you can adjust elevation without adjusting the zero? how exactly does it work? regards, jack
  11. brand new on ebay is it a good buy? i know my local dealer sells this exact model for £140 hawke laser rangefinder 600
  12. sorry buddy read your first post wrong. i thought on the first line it said 'i was thinking about getting it fox' rather than 'fac'. sorry about that
  13. correct me if im wrong but theres no way your licensing department would approve an air rifle for foxes, even if it was fac rated. alot of departments wont even approve rimfire for fox control. sorry mate
  14. you must be a bloody good shot mate
  15. cheers mate. just need to break the bank again for a scope now i was actually going to go for the blued rather than stainless barrel but my local dealer said that they're far more hard wearing for outdoors as far as rusting and general damage is concerned. what do you shoot with mate? regards, jack
  16. ok so i bought a new rifle yesterday in .17hmr and am currently looking for the right scope to buy. budgets under 300 squid preferably. ive heard some good things about mtc and falcon so i'll probably be choosing one or the other. however, im completely ignorant as to the benefits of using a mil-dot reticle over standard crosshair. from what i can gather you focus the reticle on the target and then use the mil-dot to adjust based on flight path of the round and also to take windage into account. ive been using an air rifle for a number of years now and have always had a standard crossh
  17. just got this today. my first rifle. cz 452 style in .17hmr with sak mod and a harris swivel bipod. will be buying an mtc viper very soon so ill put some more pics up when the scope is on.
  18. i made sure i asked just in case. all approved. just got back from buying it. cz452 style with the stainless steel barrel, sak mod and harris swivel bipod with remington ballistic tips. i'll be buying a few more different brands once i get my scope so i can see what gives me the best grouping. ill take some pics and put them up on the rifles post. cheers, jack
  19. just the .17hmr at the moment. i was going to include .223 as well but that will be coming either with a variation or more probably when i reapply in 5 years. at the moment i just have one permission of a more than adequate 1000 acres the majority of which is great for shooting. its been cleared for fox control as well so im a pretty happy bunny. off to get the rifle this afternoon cheers, jack
  20. i just got my FAC through the post this morning, exactly 7 days after my interview with my FEO. im a very happy bunny and will hopefully be going to get my rifle either today or tomorrow. i'll put a few pictures up on the forum when i have my full set up. i just wanted to say thank you very much to everybody on this site who has helped me on the way to my FAC. without the knowledge gained from everyone on the site i dont think i would have a certificate now. much appreciated jack
  21. whats the reticle on it? is it a mil-dot or similar?
  22. saw this on ebay and thought it looked like a good buy for a .17hmr. any thoughts? cheers Jack
  23. i should hopefully be receiving my fac within the week and am getting a cz 452 style in .17hmr. ive heard alot of good things about the mtc viper and considering my budget is around that sort of price range i was wondering whether there is a general consensus as to a better piece of glass or not. also while im at it what sort of magnification is suitable? 3-9 or somewhere from 3ish to 12ish? i'd rather use a variable rather than fixed magnification scope cheers jack
