is he a gun dealer by any chance? i think i know who you're talking about

hmmmm that could be a problem indeed. typically a cz 452 will sell for around 300 squid give or take 50 quid or so. unless im much mistaken you wont anything new for less than 300. perhaps a ruger 10/22 but in my opinion they're crap. i used a friends at a range and it had a stoppage twice which isnt great. try going to your gun dealer to find a second hand bolt action. theres bound to be something about for that price range. it just wont be new

whats your budget? if its restricted you cant go wrong with a cz 452

i realised recently how stupid it was that i didnt own my own shotgun certificate and that i was having to have my dad accompany me every bloody time i wanted a walk around. so i decided i'd get myself a shotgun certificate and to save on money i thought i'd apply for my variation now and then buy the rifle in a few months when i can afford a half decent scope (originally thoguht about 250 squid but if i can afford 500 then why not right?) i dont see why there would be any problem with shotgun certificate if i already have a firearms certificate and from what i know about my FEO he wont h

sorry if my first post was confusing i only use my rifle for rabbits and they all have to be headshots. ill see if i can squeeze an extra 50p out of him :) -
i went to my local butchers the other day to interest him in buying my rabbits. he offered me £1 per rabbit skinned and gutted. what im doing with the ones im shooting is freezing them in a sealable bag and then im going to send them to him everytime i collect 20 or so. putting everything into account, 25p a pop currently for ammo, plus 2 or 3p per bag and petrol costs. probably looking at 60p a rabbit for all my time. and thats under the assumption i dont miss any ;) what does your butcher offer you per rabbit? cheers, jack

ON TONIGHTS PROGRAM...a marine who couldnt even face killing a rabbit, a vegetarian turned meateater and a woman who believes killing grouse is murder. stay tuned

thats exactly what my grandpa had to do. sadly he no longer shoots so my dad is going to get the stock back to original so he can have it back. its one of a pair of holland and hollands and used to belong to my dad until he stopped shooting for a while and gave it to his old man.

there was a blond animal rights activist on the one about the mallard two nights ago who said she was simply there to argue her somewhat controversial case that noone ever needed to eat meet again. the only problem i have with that is that she was trying to preach her view and convince the rest of the group. she was also insistent that the killing of animals should not be done and in effect stuck a middle finger up to the gamekeeper and the people working on the estate. im more than happy to appreciate a persons view on anything as long as they dont preach it to me or tell me i cant do it. as

i really didnt like the ignorant views of the blond girl in the rabbit program. hugely ignorant idealogies towards the gamekeeper and his livelihood. dont be so narrow minded :wallbash: :wallbash:

talking about your gunsmith altering the gun to suit you. my grandpa used to shoot right handed but buggered his right shoulder a few years back. he now shoots right eye left shoulder with his gun specially altered. try and work that one out ;)

i watched these on bbc iplayer last night. theres one on deer stalking, one on duck flighting and there is one tonight at 10pm on rabbit shooting. very interesting in my opinion. however, there is a big case of the 'shooting is for egotistical, sick b*****ds who dont have lives among a large proportion of the people. they basically introduce 9 people from different walks of life to shoot, butcher and eat their own deer in Scotland (same with the mallard and rabbits). some have shot before, others are anti-shooting, pro shooting, vegans, vegetarians and one woman who thinks that noone ever need

my initial thought was .223 over .22-250 simply due to the price of the round however my keeper said hes very happy with his and the ground we both shoot on is very open and hilly in most of the permission so the flatter trajectory of the .22-250 did appeal to me. originally the .243 didnt even have a place in my head simply because i thought it was specifically a deer calibre which i suppose it is in some respects. however, i've read a number of posts from blokes who shoot fox with .243 and i started weighing that up in my head. could any of you who shoot .243 for fox tell me w

no there are no roe about my way, just hundreds of muntjac. i have to say the .243 does appeal to me but obviously for muntjac i only require .22 centrefire. ive never really thought about .222. my thinking was either .243 .223 or .22-250 so i think when the time comes ill see if i can have a shoot with all three and see what i like. my keeper shoots with a .22-250 so i'll have a go with that and another mates uses .223 so i'll see about .243. obviously .223 is the cheapest of the three with .22-250 being slightly more expensive but how does the .243 rate price wise? reloading is unlikely for

this is in no way me saying i want a new rifle now. as most of you might know i recently bought a .17 hmr as my first rifle. i've always intended to move onto centrefire as well in the future. this will be a dedicated foxing rifle with the occassional muntjac (there are hundreds on my permission at the moment). within the next year or so i'd like to apply for a variation (probably the latter half of this year). whats the general protocol with granting a centrefire so early on. realistically would i have to wait until my next renewal or is it entirely possible for me to be granted a variation f

they tasted great. i have to say im very impressed with it. bullet placement has gone exactly where i wanted it to. well worth the money. not alot about at the moment though. i think i'll have to wait until march when it starts getting a bit warmer regards, jack

i'd been for a walk around this afternoon to see if i could add another couple of rabbits to my pot with the one i shot yesterday. because it had snowed there was really sod all. still...nice to get out and about. after a fruitless walk around i decided to go and gut and skin the rabbit i shot yesterday. i went over to a spot where i could ambush a fox that ive seen twice in the past week and saw another rabbit sitting on the side of a hill. i didnt range it. must have been about 70 yards. thats two for the pot then :clapper: they're currently cooking and smelling delicious.

as i say i dont actually mind the trigger too much but every single person who has changed theirs has sung praises so i thought i might see how i get on with it. ill probably end up taking it to my dealer today to see what he can do with it. cheers for the posts jack
-
if its for fox only you'll want a dedicated foxing rifle which will almost definitely be a centrefire round. the .22 centrefire range seems to be the most popular or you could go for .243 if it takes your fancy. the best thing is probably visit your local dealer before you even think about applying. he or she will be more than happy to inform you on what you might want and you'll be able to handle a number of different rifles whilst there. good luck jack

do you have to mail order them or can you get them at your local dealers. if so ill get one tomorrow
