  1. who said shooters have no compassion for other living things?! cracking read mate. i still need to get back to you on coming over here for a muntjac. little bit busy with the whole exams malarky at the moment but no worries you'll get your stalk. ATB Jack
  2. do you reload your own ammo? if so do you carry out a full resize of each case after theyre fired or do you leave them fireformed because if so that could present a few problems with ejecting. just a thought
  3. since when was this about stalking deer at 1000 yards. you mentioned that target shooters use a .308 to 1000yds, fair enough thats certainly true. what you also said was that the real stalkers who do it for a living never go under-gunned. as far as .22 hornet goes thats the smallest centrefire calibre and these Scottish Ghillies were doing it for a living so my simple point was that the original true stalkers were using small calibres indeed. you're never under-gunned, just under-capable
  4. it will be the 16" barrel mate. i have exactly the same rifle but style rather than silhouette. i was told by a very large number of people that with a rimfire there is little or no noticeable accuracy changes from a 20" to 16" barrel with the 16" being more versatile and easier to use in a car which is why i went for that one. go for the 16" you wont be disappointed. best of luck, Jack
  5. i'd hasten to disagree. i think im right in saying that stalkers in Scotland used to use a .22 hornet to shoot red deer until it was made illegal. a point to consider, "its not what you use its how you use it" (i like reassuring myself ) ATB Jack
  6. hiho i have no doubt its great fun but i think its fair to say that over here, due to the regulations and laws we have which restrict the use of firearms, those who use them have a definitive respect for their quarry. due to the 2nd amendment over in the USA any fella can buy whatever the hell they want as long as theyre a US citizen which i think means that (without profiling i hasten to add) allows for some pretty fruitful characters to do whatever they want with firearms and thus have little respect for their quarry. i dont mean to offend anyone but this is just my opinion
  7. Maybe it shouldn't but maybe again it does. Many middle of the road folks can accept a sporting gun, but when they come accross a guy shimying around the woods with an out and out combat assault gun they will move their stance. Fair enough on the range. # i very much doubt anyone in their right mind would consider buying one for shooting live quarry. i doubt that theyre accurate anyway. personally if i had the money id love to get one for popping down the range. cant think of many ways to spend a day. on youtube there is a video of Americans in a truck with laser sights attached
  8. what do you no i am wondering where aaron manages to get his fascinating facts and figures from. aaron we all appreciate anyones input but please make it relevant and only post if you're sure of yourself or enquiring. your outlandish statements are starting to annoy quite a few people (im not one of them because it wasnt long ago that i was 13 and i know how easy it is to get excited about everything) but please just take a step back and read rather than post outlandish and absolute statements that have no depth or justification to them. purely for your information. you can get a cz 452
  9. cheers jamie g. i dont actually have any intention of getting one i was simply enquiring as to whether anyone had one or not. cheers for the advice on the scope though Jack
  10. ive recently applied for a variation on my FAC to include a .243WIN for fox and deer. the initial application took 7 days from sending off my forms to getting my FAC (must have been some kind of record). anyway, i got a call this morning to organize the interview so thats happening next friday. he sounded pretty positive and said it would only take a few minutes as it would be very similar to the last interview (sounds good to me). will hopefully have my FAC back in a couple of weeks to spend money i dont have on another rifle so ill post up some pics but thought i might share my excitement wi
  11. think he wants someone with personal experience of pigeon shooting. not meaning any offence but your post wont have helped him in the slightest. ive tried no6 for pigeon shooting with a mates shotgun and the difference in comparison with my 20g and cheapo 23g shot was incredible. no personal experience of no7 shot so i cant help but no6 certainly improved my shooting. only real way you will know is to try some yourself so why not buy 25 or 50 of both and compare the two. ATB Jack
  12. thats exactly what i wa thinking dixy. my last batch cost £12.63 a box
  13. i'd be interested in buying it off you. pm me your details and maybe we could come to an arrangement if your interested in selling it on here. cheers, jack
  14. just my 2p's worth but not getting a group below 5" at 50 yards seems like barrel problems. have you had the barrel checked because if the rifle is second hand then that could be the simplest and unfortunately most expensive resolution to the problem. ATB Jack
  15. ive not had the oppurtunity yet to get into stalking however my variation is currently with my licensing department to add me a .243 to the mix for deer and fox. on the permission i have there are a large number of muntjac about. this is in the northamptonshire area and i was wondering if any stalkers are from the area and have the chance at roe as we supposedly get a group of roe on the farm every so often although they never hang about. anyone know from experience or from data which species can be found in the area. i know rockingham forest is teeming with fallow. cheers, jack
  16. great pics mr adventure. is the dmc tied in with a DSC. im guessing it stands for management rather than stalking. would you mind enlightening me on the difference between the two. im guessing it will be more training on managing an estate and controlling the deer population through culling. am i right? cheers jack
  17. ive been looking to subscribe to a shooting magazine. ive got a few magazines from sporting shooter and shooting times but they're both predominantly shotgun based as far as i've seen. does anyone know any good magazines which are predominantly rifle based with some shotgun? cheers jack
  18. i have very recently had an eric brookes trigger kit put on my rifle. originally i wasnt going to but you just dont realise the difference it makes to the accuracy of your shooting. factory setting on my rifle was 3.5lb i got it set to 2lb and it makes all the difference. 12 quid very well spent in my opinion. jack
  19. i think you might actually be right about that :icon_redface: i think a law was passed in the first half of the 18th century that restricted the shooting of game on a sunday. i think they called it the game laws and its one of those laws that hasnt been amended. for example you still arent allowed to drive a horse and cart under the influence of alcohol to this day. A2 british history working its magic. stupidly i didnt think about it at the time. apologies
  20. i've been having some problems with my rifle feeling that my scope kept losing its zero every now and again when dead rabbits didnt even flinch after being shot at. i suppose they figured if they stood still i'd never be able to hit them. so i decided to take it to the drawing board and have been getting sub MOA groups at 100 yards with remington accutips. recently however those groups began to open up so i checked everything. cleaned the barrel, took apart the bolt and cleaned it, checked the scope mounts and no difference. this afternoon then i decided to go for a session on the ta
  21. heres mine, a cz 452 style in .17 hmr with the 16" barrel, sak mod harris bipod and nikko sterling 4-16x50. cant fault it. also its last quarry
  22. hi i paid £350 for the exact same rifle but with the 16" barrel instead. correct me if im wrong but the shorter barrel costs more because they get re-cut threaded an crowned. unless theyre now shipping them over like that. i would try to haggle the price if i were you
  23. i love the stock mate. i have the same rifle but with the synthetic stock and nickel barrel. what scope setup are you using. do you use the rifle for range work or live quarry. regards jack
