You can't kill them twice. Night vision etc is getting more affordable for the rifle boys

If it's a first cross, the dam was a black greyhound hbg used to have which was also the dam to Remus among others. Chunk is still about.

pre ban foxhunting with the wrecking crew

Personally I think the w/c fella's could catch more by driving the roads and lamping from the back of a van rather than calling every fox. The cumbrian lads I've been with have it to a tee and the dogs know the score jumping everything from fences and gates, upto tall dykes and hedges to get into the field with the fox. Only my opinion though..NM -
Meindl Dovre Extreme or Le Chameaux Mouflon Plus??
No messin replied to No messin's topic in Hunting Boots & Clothing
I tried a pair of le chameux at the midland on saturday but thought they were a bit narrow for my feet, I've tried a pair of ankle high meindl's today in Ambleside and they felt good. Now I know what size I need for the meindl dovre extreme's I'll be ordering a pair of them. Thank's for your input much appreciated. Edited to add - bought a pair for £204 posted. -
how old to run alongside bike?
No messin replied to ferreting lee's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'd wait till 10 to 12 months old and start at half a mile at a slow pace. Then build pace and distance slowly. I run the older dogs along side the car for 3 miles at 20-25 mph, then let the youngster out to run with the older dogs for half a mile at 10-15 mph. I give them a half hour walk first though to let them clean themselves out and warm up the muscles. Through the warm weather I go early morning or just before dark when it's cooler and run them along side the bike. -
I know what you mean mate I shouldnt have made it look like i wanted the bitch to finish all the foxes she comes across. I go out regular with a sprocker bitch and she is a demon on them. I was comparing her to her. JMO but I'd be looking for a pup from your mates sprocker instead, lined with a spaniel of the same calibre.

Breaking lurcher to sheep and cattle
No messin replied to Amateur's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I'd be wary of putting a 12 month old dog in with a ewe or tupp, it could quite easily end with a dead or badly injured sheep. -
I see what you are saying although a good fit cocker can work solid all day as long as you take a few mars bars in case it starts going in to hypoglysemic shock. Its a bit of a toss up really as a foxhound is a little bit big and a Beagle isnt a choice i personally favour and a straight Harrier would be a little to quick over open land when on scent, thats why i was wanting to know what the cross is like from experience of owning and working them. What a load of sh1t. Any positive input rather than just saying, WHAT A LOAD OF SH1T. I would of thought that a well experienced dog

your only looking at the good points from dam/sire. You could end up with a hound that has lungs the size of a cocker. JMO.

Seen pointer crosses hunt up myself, didnt see them catch on the occasions I've been with them but they worked well as a team. My own bullx bred dogs all lamp and hunt up, field or fell. I can't see why a lamp dog shouldnt be allowed to hunt up through the day JMO.
