My advice would be to look for a job with a national company to begin with at least. They'll train you and get you qualified and you'll learn about the industry in the process.

Sound advice there. If you've got any bedding in other than wood shavings at the moment, get it out! Also worth waiting until later in the evening to feed and remove uneaten food in the morning because of the inevitable fly problems!

I'm not sure that's strictly true garfield. There is no R10 Mk2, just an old type and a new type. The main problem was with the regulator, but there were other issues that have since been ironed out too. BSA definitely got it wrong, because as a flagship model, it should be rivalling the Rapid, and for far less! I have one of the old type R10s, which had to go back to BSA for an unrelated problem, where the reg was upgraded as a matter of course. I recently had another problem that was caused entirely by myself overfilling (unintentionally). That's been sorted too, and I wouldn't chang

Hi all, not been on this site for a while. Good to be back though. Anyway, I'm having a bit of trouble with my BSA R10. I just filled her up with my Hills pump. Went to put a few shots through, and got nothing. Pellets hadn't moved more than 6 inches along the barrel. With these removed, I unscrewed the buddy bottle to check the 'O' ring, which seemed to be fine. Screwed it back in, and tried again. This time, the rifle is firing, but feels drastically under powered, with my shots dropping a yard short at 30yrds. Also, when I fire, I'm getting a strange 'zipping' sound from the rif

hawkhigh, I think you're being a bit harsh on stubby there. He asked a question that could quite easily have been answered with an simple, polite explanation. I think the previous response from kill um with crisps was far more inflammatory but you didn't react to that. I think all of us in this section need to get away from the idea that this is a competition. There are some incredibly experienced pest controllers on this forum, and everybody has different ways of going about things. Lets not all take everything everybody says as a sneak attack. I often read things on here and think '

here we go again. I hate to be rude, but go away.

Getting to know my R10 realllllllllly well now
Ron Weasley replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
Good going zini! Nice mixed bag there. Out of interest, what is the bipod on your R10? I've been considering one for mine. How does it affect the balance when taking standing shots? Cheers Ron. -
Good on you Zini, looks like you're breaking that gun in nicely! I too use an R10 and I love everything about it. Keep up the good work squire.

you make me laugh, you have already said that most died on saturday, two days before you posted the question, someone replies and quite rightly suggests getting the dead ones to a vet/post mortem in case its a virus, but thats not good enough for you you think members should have given you an exact explanation to the deaths, and because they havent, your gonna sulk and not post on here again, as thats a waste of your time, by all means let me know and I'll be quite happy to deleate your account maybe if you had read up/researched ferrets a bit more, you would know these problems are not

I can't speak for the .177, but I own a .22 R10 and I absolutely love it. I've used it in all manner of situations and it's never let me down.

Most people would know me would say I have a tendency to be a bit grumpy from time to time about all manner of things, but the one thing that really winds me up beyond belief is when uninformed people try to give advice. It particularly annoys when the advice if about something I'm knowledgable of myself. I'm a pest controller, and while I'm always willing to learn, I don't want to hear about "the best way to get rid of rats" from a farmer, for example. Well, today, at work, I had to go and deal with some wasps at an office for a big utilities company. While I was getting the gear I

This is an interesting topic. I don't think I'd change what I have now (BSA R10, HW95), I'd just have more! If I buy another rifle, I'm quite sure it'll be an Air Arms S410, maybe a 510. I really like the look of the s200 too, and the HW100, and a Daystate Mk4. I've always hankered after a Theoben Fenman, so I'd probably get the Evolution that has replaced it. And naturally, a Rapid. But realistically, I've got a couple of very good rifles that so far have never let me down!

You should get plenty of good advice on this site mate, some of the contributors to this site really know their stuff. There are a few messers too though, and it's not always easy to tell good advice from bad! A three year old ferret will work fine my friend. If it's not particularly good, it's just not particularly good, nothing to do with age.

if i was you i would remove your post as you have just told the world that your mother has broken the law by killing a proteced animal. natural england do not mess around about bats they are up there with badgers Cant help bad luck can you,was i to no bats where protected was she?no! They can come for my mother but weather or not they will find a tessis racket or a dead bats another thing and without them theyve no evidence so with your  faces paraniod or what! I hate to be inflammatory, but you sir, are an idiot.

Both are beautiful rifles though, and I'd be prepared to trade my missus for a fenman if anyone has one!!

Before you even consider shooting at any live animal or bird, you must be confident that you can hit exactly where you aim. Go ahead and buy yourself a rifle, and practice everyday shooting at targets, at varying ranges, until you're confiedent you can hit a target the size of a 20 pence piece, every time. Only once you can do that does the rest of your post become relevant. Cheers. Ron.

The course that you've pointed to is the industry standard, and you'll find you won't really be able to do much without it. My advice is to look for a job with a bigger firm to start with. They'll put you through the same course- and you'll be getting paid to do it, not having to fork out hundreds of pounds yourself, and you'll get some on the job experience which is more valuable than any certificate. I was in very much the same position as you when I quit uni a few years ago. I had an interest in pest control but hadn't really considered making a career of it, but while in an une

The Mk1 is probably the most disgusting looking rifle ever made. The stock has a bit of a shelf just infront of the trigger guard before the rounded fore end. The Mk2 just looks much nicer. I wouldn't be put off by the looks though, the Mk1 is an incredibly good rifle. I owned one, and sold it, and wished for years that I hadn't until I bought my R10. Just be wary of the buddy bottles. If it has a rounded front end then it shouldn't be used- as these were recalled after they started to perish.

I think few would argue that the best spring gun ever built is the HW80, but there are loads of good ones. I have an HW95, and it's given me more than half my life's shooting. Incredibly good. BSA Lightnings are excellent too, and very affordable. That's where I'd start.

Without wishing to be patronising, I think the most important thing you need to get is a bit of knowledge about ferrets and their welfare. 1. I'd definitely get two ferrets- they're sociable creatures that like company, and also when working, rabbits will very often give just one ferret the run around. 2. Decide whether to get hobs or jills. Most people prefer to work jills, but the best working ferret I've ever had is a hob. Personally I keep both but I have the set up for it. There are things to be aware of with both sexes though, all of which have been discussed at length on th

just make sure they're completely dry mate.

Cheers. Just got in, not the greatest success tonight, only managed one, and I was on the lamp at the time, so my mate takes all the glory! They all count though. No photos, but essentially all my photos are the same anyway as I never take my camera out with me! All in all, not a bad day.
