Horses for courses I guess. There is no question that the Rapid is an incredibly high quality rifle, but equally, so is the S200...and you didn't like it.

recommended breakbarrel
Ron Weasley replied to rabbit.slayer.no.1's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Definitely look at the HW95K, or even an HW99S. BSA Lightning is a decent rifle too, although for my money, the Weihrauchs are better build quality. If you can stretch to it a Fenman, as has already been said is a great rifle. That's discontinued now, so you'll be limited to a second hand one- which means it should fall into your price range. But I don't honestly think many people will disagree that the HW95K should be your starting point. *edited to add* Also, have a look at the Gamo Hunter. As I understand, they're a decent enough rifle for not a lot of money. -
The Scorpion is definitely a PCP Phantom. In fact, the R10's action is based very much on that of the Scorpion. For £380 with a scope, I'd go for it mate. Remember to budget for a pump too, they're not all that cheap. You'll get the filling probe with the rifle, as you said. It's definitely worth looking at the Ultra too. I bought a single shot ultra tactical last week and I've been astounded by how good it is, especially considering the rifle itself was less than £300 brand new. As Tony has already mentioned, the S200 is a great rifle, but if you're looking for a brand new

+ 1 .... We have an outhouse full of feeds and grain, but one cat = no rodents. That's very optimistic..!

I've always wanted a Fenman.

In the first instance, I'd suggest you tighten your mounts then!

As has been said, it's a vasectomy he'll need mate. A castration is the process of actually removing the testes, where a vasectomy cuts or ties the tubes, so as far as he's aware, he's still a hob capable of doing what hobs do! Prices vary, when I had mine done a couple of years ago, it was about £50 I think. That said, I had a hob castrated about 3 years ago and it was £30. I've got three more to have done now, and I've been quoted £70 EACH!!

Top shooting mate!

Thanks for the SPs. Wurz, as I said in the original post, I'm very impressed with the Ultra. My local gun shop is turning them out very cheaply at the moment, and I just couldn't resist. I teamed it up with literally the cheapest scope they had in stock, a Hawke something-or-other 3-9x40 IR (which I'm also really impressed with, by the way!), and it's amazing. I'd definitely recommend them. Phantom, this particular customer originally didn't even want me to kill them! (She openly admits that she is a bit barmy!) I've convinced her now that rodenticide is the best option for an inf

Hi mate. Firstly, if you're considering doing any kind of hunting, then you'll need a rifle. I'd suggested a self contained rifle for a start, and would recommend a break-barrel action. Almost all rifles are designed to be used with a scope these days, although open sights are fitted as standard to some rifles too - I'd recommend using a scope. I'd budget between £150 and £250, and look at a BSA Lightning or Weihrauch HW99S and HW95K if I were you. You'll be able to pick up a good quality scope from JS Ramsbottom for about £30, and you'll have yourself a decent set up.

Thanks fellas. Bill, I will definitely be adding a LRF to the armoury, but the impulse purchase of the Ultra has put the mockers of that for the time being...and now I'm wondering whether I should prioritise a LRF or the A&M treatment to the R10. Decisions, decisions.

Had an early start this morning. Had a job booked in for 8.30, but thought I'd call in at a small bit of permission I have on the way and see if I could bag a few bunnies. Left the house around 4.30ish, got to the site around 5.15. First thing I saw out of the passenger window of my van was a large buck rabbit about 20 yards away. I cursed my lack of electric windows in the van, and got out, took the R10 out of it's slip an loaded up. To my surprise, the bunny was still there. I took a supported shot, leaning on the bonnet of my van. Nothing. It didn't even twitch. Cycled the bolt, to

And lets face it, what you're doing isn't pest control, it's looking for shooting permission.

It's all down to personal preference, as the others have said. Also, it depends on whether you would prefer a brand new rifle or don't mind getting a second hand one. If you go new, obviously with charging equipment, you're going to be a bit limited on that kind of budget. If I were you, I'd look towards an Air Arms S400 or a BSA Scorpion or Ultra, but it's horses for courses, so to speak.

A&M Custom Gunsmiths

That looks the nuts. Mine is definitely getting the same treatment when I can spare the £££s. -
Man fined for drowning trapped squirrel
Ron Weasley replied to salukiwhippet's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
You, sir, are an idiot, and that attitude is detrimental not just to professional pest controllers, but the hunting community as a whole. Regardless of it being 'only a squirrel', there are laws that must be adhered to. And those laws state that drowning is not an acceptable method of dispatch for any animal. This man, as has already been stated, should not have attempted to trap the squirrel without having a method of dispatch. I haven't read into the particular case, but I expect that it was ignorance rather than deliberate law-breaking. However that doesn't excuse it, and he des -
Thanks everyone. Picked up the Ultra today. It's been pouring with rain since I got it home though, so I've not had a chance to get it zeroed just yet, but I look forward to giving it some use.

show us your air pistol set up
Ron Weasley replied to kx100's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I'm hopefully going to pick up a cheap pistol at the weekend for humane dispatch in cage traps and a pit of tin can bashing. Been looking at the Beeman 2004E by SMK. Think that'll do the job, and if I get it, I'll put a picture up for you. -
Good read, and excellent whacking yet again Stealthy! SPA from me too.

Cheers all. Ran in to the gamekeeper again this morning- he's showing me around one evening next week. Also I collected my R10 from the local gun shop, and celebrated my recent good fortune by buying myself a BSA Ultra Tactical in .177! Bit of an impulse, but I convinced myself that the business can justify it!

So today it seemed all my luck appeared on one day! As some of you know, I've recently started my own pest control business, after 4 years of so working for a national company. Things have been a bit slow but have picked up no end in the last couple of weeks. Well today, I had a few jobs booked in, and the phone didn't stop ringing (or so it seemed) from about 7.30am! So good thing number one - plenty of work, equals money to pay bills. Happy days. On the way to survey a rat job, had a call from my local gunshop telling me that my R10 is back from BSA and ready for collection.

Excellent whacking stealthy!

I'd like to give my opinion, but I have no idea what's going on. I'm sure it's fun though.

Cheers collieman, I'll pick it up and have a look pal!
