  1. Well Frank, thats my thought,a coursing greyhound or a whippet greyhound, what do people think. The dog has speed aplenty, and is very calculating in his approach to his quarry so I believe hes thinking before he strikes. He's not a dog to chase after rabbits that are obviously too far away. When he sees 1 he walks along until he thinks he has a chance of sucess. He also can be called off a planned attack but not when hes in full course.! great thing about him is when your out lamping with him,if theres anyone about and hes on the slip,he starts to growl real low and you can feel the vibrations up th
  2. millet,,its the photo. The dog is walked almost every night, and lamped regulary. He is a 1/2 bred.He gets plenty of feeding and is in top condition. He has great stamina and takes foxes with ease single handed.at the time of the photo he was shedding his coat and needed a good brushing.I am considering crossing him back to a greyhound again but not sure yet if its worth it.Whats your opinion on such a move?
  3. Heres a pic of my mates G.S. x Greyhound.Takes lots of stuff and does it well,3 yrs old and a dinger on fox and deer,he isnt that keen on rabbit but takes a good share of them also, obedient and an allround decent dog.
  4. stabs sorry to hear of your loss. Its a ball breaker when you loose a good 1.I looked forward to reading your posts on her activities and pics.I keep the same breed for many a year and they really have that special something that bonds with you.Good luck for the future.
  5. True as God,I went ferreting yesterday and 1 of the lads brought his ferret also so I changed ferret carrying boxes from a double to a single carrying box. When I got back the double box was demolished,I must have left the strap hanging down from the shelf over his box.The strap was in his box and the lid was on 1 side and the main box was half eaten.Millet your fellow is a little worse than mine I think, theres a place in heaven for both of us.
  6. I have ya sussed frank yer on feckin commission for em,lol
  7. What cross is he Royston2,amazing peepers on him, somewhat hypnotic 1 might say.Scary to think thats the last thing you might see before you get snuffed out.Good luck with the lad.
  8. I gave him a rat that we dug from a friends garden,as we were digging it bolted. He was on him in an instant.Like a pro, dead in seconds.I showed him 1 in a cage after that and I had to stand on the cage he almost demolished it,I know its only a rat and a long way from earth work but he has a bit of prey drive in him so fingers crossed.
  9. As I've said hes kennelled with another dog so big bones might lead to broken bones, hes eaten a hose a few weeks back,I was washing the kennells and the phone rang, when I got back after 5 minutes the hose was no more, well a few feet shorter.I have very large buckets for water drinkers.I cant lift 1 of these,I have to pull it along the ground to get it in the gate when I fill it.I came home a while back and it was on the opposite side of the kennell, the mutt was pulling it about. He also ate the handels off of it so if I fill it outside the run I cant get it back in.No handels to pull it.1 thing
  10. I got a new phone last week but I cant get my multi media messages or my e-mails working on it,Hes a cracker of a dog, nice solid body and a huge head, really powerful dog.I had box steel welded mesh for 18 years and it started rusting,me being a painter by profession there was no way I was going to paint it a second time, you know the saying:never bring your work home with you,I'm a firm believer in that.I built block dividing walls, put a roof on,torch on felt. All that was left was a wire front and I got the frame work done by a welder, galvanised round pipe with flat plates on the ground bolted
  11. This little prick cant be lonely, hes kennelled with another dog,hes never once started a fight but my bull terrier bitch tried to get at him under the gate and he pulled lumps out of her in minutes,I ran out of the house and his kennell mate was hiding in his dog box,(hes going to be a good 1 for sure I think.)I revamped the kennells last year and tiled the floors and added shores, put new galvanised wire up,2 inch box.Tied them up with cable ties, the biggest ties you can get,he ate the flaming things and escaped ,was in the box with the bull bitch when I got home from work. How she didnt chop h
  12. Anyone here has a dog that eats everything, and I'm not on about food.I have a lakelandxrussel/bull,10 months old and hes a destructive little b*****d.Hes eaten the back of the fridge in the shed,I gave him a cow matt to lie on so he'd be warm one winter, guess what? he ate it and was shitting black rubber for a week.Hes eaten a walking stick,an electric planer,(the handle only of course)his sleeping quarters. His aluminium bowl.anyone got anything like him,hes really got me sick of him,by jasus he better work in december or I know what he'll be eating.
  13. Well Frank, how the tables have turned.Looks like I may have to give you a hand with all the land your getting.Out yesterday, the place provided us with 34 rabbits last season, yesterday we got 13.I believe we have a scoundrel in our hunting party and hes going to be outed real soon.A young buck that reckons he can pull the wool over our eyes.It took me months to get permission to get on this farm and this bo....ks rapes the shit out of the place during the summer months. Not acceptable.
  14. On my phone at the moment is a pic of a sheperdx g hound, belong to a mate.I havnt seen him running but hes taken fox, deer and rabbits,of this I'm sure.My mate is well pleased with him.The phone I have is new and I'm having problems downloading the pics.As soon as I get it to work I'll put a few shots up.
  15. is it possible to get a replacement cap for a deben ferret collar, lost the cap a while back. Its a mark 1 im on about any help would be much appreciated,Jigsaw
  16. Sorry to hear that, its a terrible thing to happen to such a young dog and a member of the family too.Hope you can find another one in time to take its place.Time is a healer.
  17. I have to say the bull crosses are magnificent looking, just find it hard to see one obedient enough to leave the nets well alone.I have trained a lurcher or two to a fairly decent level of obedience ,hell it would be a test of endurance and patience for both me and the dog.Any more comments and opinions on this aspect of the bull cross would be appreciated and more photos if you have them please.Jigsaw.
  18. Jack Williams would you seriously think a 1st cross would be easier to train and control,I'm not doubting you I'm genuinly asking you.I have a mate that has a wheaten\greyhound with a little bull thrown in and hes a maniac with rabbits , squashes em to bits.I just wont go for rabbits with him anymore. As a fox dog or anything bigger hes commited but to me hes of limited use as hes a liability out.A lot of effort and time has been put into this dog to stock break him.He will take down a sheep in a moment .looking at the dogs on here they seem to be biddable in the extreme. How about net work,in t
  19. oops the reply above from rabbit slayer may answer my querie.I'm investing in a lurcher after Christmas and am trying to decide which cross to go for.I need a ferreting\net guarder mainly but would like an all rounder, fox taker, hare exerciser etc.Unsure if the bull crosses can control their emotions in these departments, especially with the nets.
  20. I am well impressed with these bull crosses, they look the biz, whats the chance of getting them to retrieve live to hand, rabbits obviously.Just got a mental picture of a bull cross retrieving a fox live to hand in the night,'nah boy you keep it,eh piss off fella, theres a good boy'.Has anyone got a dog of that mix that'll retrieve live.I own a p\bull pure bred and I would think obedience would'nt be a problem as they're very willing to please but with a wriggling bunny in his mouth,I wonder.
  21. I caught a 10lb conger in the harbour a while back,I ate most of it but the ferrets enjoyed it thoroughly.I have to say though they could shit for Ireland after it.
  22. got half a dozen today till the farmers kids came down and kicked up hell, shouting and pushing each other. We finished up at 11.30.The hedging is still growing, missed a few due to being unable to get the nets right into the ditch.god bless the farmer he gave us a breakfast fit for a king and showed us a new patch of land belonging to his neighbour, lots of bunnys there .Still too bloody warm though.
  23. well frank, thats a good days sport, they'll only improve with experience and time so you have a lot to look forward to,starting off tommorow weather permitting,Jigsaw
