Mine was spot on till 7 years old,..and worst scenario....the first time he took a hold of a sheep was when I had a guest from this site out for a goat ,I was mortified and seriously disappointed with the dog,I had the mindset that he knew the difference between the two,....afterwards I went through sheep on my farmer friends land and he never looked twice at them but I never trusted him again ,....I would never let a dog run them again ,the rifle is the only job for them I think ,,..

No challenge for dogs in reality,but good supply of meat/food and the landowners hated them with a passion

I put this girl down in the past,and together we harvested near 200 goats,a nice number of deer ,and shit loads of rabbits ,...it was mentally draining having to put her to sleep but she had very aggressive cancer ,...it was the right thing to do but not an easy thing to do ,I know what you will be facing in the future,just keep reminding yourself it's the best thing for her ....

You couldn't be more wrong ,I've done so many I couldn't even attempt to guess how many and that's not me being chest out bragging ,,,where did I mention "blasting anything" ...I use a 22 only,...I own a shotty ,wouldn't dream of using it ,I've culled for mates with foxhounds, greyhound men and failed dogs and sick dogs ,all done in a very professional,matter of fact ,no drama involved...there's very little reaction from an animal done right other than it collapsing to the floor and blood loss,...if your refering to the back of the head comment ,that was said in jest and just a hint of sarcasm

It's quiet obvious you've not seen it done too often,ray...if ever you've seen it as your mind's eye is drawing you a vision that's not at all accurate,all my old time dogs have spent minimum 10 years iny company ,I've spen as much if not more time with the dogs in the countryside than with the wife,and not for a second would I contemplate putting them through any form of anguish or pain in their last moments,...it's way faster and more humane than the cold clinical act of a stranger jabbing them for profit, When the deed is done there's hardly a dent to be seen at the point of entry,and

I did see one swallow a tiny rabbit kit years back on the cliffs at the coast ,but a full squirrel and to attack and consume a pigeon surprised me I have to admit,.. I must admit in my younger years of life ( 40 years ago) ,I shot a black backed gull and got my mother to cook it ,it was absolutely rank and even my pits wouldn't eat it ,....lesson learned lol

I did all my own except sonic as he was my son's dog and he wanted the vet ,the vet told me at one point ,a gun was just as humane and faster than the lethal jab,...a tough job to do but it's always the only option left
