  1. the best hare s are to be found at the back of my head the rest since the ban have all but been wiped out.
  2. steve, your lab looks in good health,he's in good condition in that pic, looks like he'll have a few more years yet,Shotup i can't believe a dog can actually live that long, but if it's in the Guiness book then it must be right, this is an interesting topic, wonder what the oldest average age of most working dogs from forum members have been, all the best, Higgins. i found it hard to believe as well may be some poetic license on the owners part but ive had a few dogs reach 18 yrs and known one that got over twenty a poodle to boot as well.
  3. just rear them in an 8x8 shed till they get 6-9 weeks then put them straight on a pond with a feeder. make sure you have traps around for mink till they get airborn.make sure shed is rat proof as they will slaught day olds with relish..good luck.
  4. oldest dog ever recorded was a gamekeepers lab and it got to 32 in an old guinness record book.so yours might have a bit to go in his retirement
  5. try advertizing these in the gamekeeper or gundog section. cant beat having a sprocker ive had springers and i now have a sprocker thats the best and most easily taught gun dog ive owned.
  6. col hancock used to work the tracker dog teams in malaya during the conflict 50,s with the commys.having worked with a fellow that worked with hancock and bruce murray that went after the commies when a track was found in the jungle with a tracker dog team and a sarawak scout he gets my respect 100% .ive met him and he,s a great old sort of chap.
  7. aaahhh the bitching.... why does the terrier section allways seem to fall out quicker than any other....does it matter what anyone else does with thier life....
  8. ''''''your gunner get your feckin head kicked in'''''' was a classic song in my youth
  9. come on lads , cut the fellow o bit of slack.. he told me he painted that pic in the nude going through his blue period. took him 5 days of repainting to get the finnished master piece. his work is in great demand all over the world now so anyone with one should get in touch with sotherbys.
  10. is that the same sean frain that spent 9 years in the SAS and writes under the name of chris ryan who to confuse and throw off terrorist writes books about terriers and ferrets or something.seen him deck a few .
  11. or could it be a starling mimicing a blackbird mimicing a house alarm..... ive heard sheps mimicing car alarms though and other noises.
  12. ragamups right in that its easier to raise a few hundred day olds in a small shed that under a few broodies. just get a gas brooder and it will save you a lot of hassle as well as seening more produce for less worry.but its still good to learn the hard way as you will appriciate just what some people had to do to produce decent bags in order to keep their jobs.
  13. neil there,s fooking hundreds of springer spanials well bred sold to pet homes all year round these pups are adorable to the familys that buy them but due to their breeding soon become to hot to handle at six to twelve months old some get sent back to the breeders and quite a few get the free to good home treatment. my advice is to get one of these as they make really good dogs better than the ones sold by gundog kennels as not suitable for field trials but would make good shooter because they have been messed up along the way.to school the ex family pet is a doddle as they soon train up bett
  14. how many eggs depends on size of hen once hatched off 20 plus under big maran hen but lost a few due to clumsy size . a good game sort will get a dozen fez eggs under.fresh water every day or twice is a must dont let pen or coup go stale.
  15. you,ll find your biggest problem is the hen stepping on the chicks the first few days, feed chick crumbs and supplement with hard boiled eggs mashed to pulp as well as greyhound food steeped in boiling water mashed and cooled just a small handfull of each every day. you,ll need grit smashed up small or grit sand.lock up in wet weather and get some pidgeon wormer through them at 4 weeks and fingers crossed you,ll have a few birds to shoot.watch for rearing hens together as they sometimes fight and trample small chicks in the process. good luck and give it a try.
  16. brits like pointers work away from thier owners ,spanials work to thier owners and terriers work for themselves.try a sprocker is my advice
  17. looks like she lost them last season in a jaw to jaw with summat. doesnt look like a very old vixen looks in to good a nick to be very old.
  18. you can even burn the colours as they did not to long back in a town near us and not one person was brought to justice even in front of cameras, but catch a fox ,dock a tail. dubb a stag and you,ll endup the wrong side of a fooking big fine as well as a telly news shot.
