it would be some job to clear it, its about 2 football pitches sort of area (not a big square but long) on a bank, thats made of football sized boulders, with years and years worth of some sort of vine growing over the top. its seriously thick. weve tried smoking them to the terriers, smoking them and shooting them with the .410(great sport but not a good rat - cartridge ratio), weve got a live catch trap out 24/7 for "puppy training". would be great to get a whole team of terriers down there and a few good blokes, but the farmer is a bit funny about new people, so unfortunatly its just for me

Both me and my old man went to merrest wood, i did arboriculture (tree surgery) and my old man did (and still works in) countryside management, he loves it, gets out with the dog in the woods more than hes in the office anyway!

Does anyone still rat with ferrets, or do they just get too messed up? you do hear some horror stories after all! our ratting patch is VERY overgrown and you just cant get a smoker to most of the holes, just wondered how well ferrets would do, and if anyone breeds a small line specialy for ratting. any response appreciated! we get the black ones round here, they're not interbred they just throw funny colours here and there, ive seen them ranging from black to ginger, but never white. maybe one day!!!

magpie for me, then crow, then jackdaw. dont like feral pigeons either, we call them skank pigeons! i thought shooting starlings was illegal now ?

alright lads, ive been ratting today with the 8 mnth old patterdale bitch, shes loving it, a little too much perhaps!! we were working on and around smooth concrete and shes warn all her pads down, and claws bleeding. she was put in the van as soon as we noticed, she wasnt bothered at the time but now shes limping everywhere! is there anything anyone would recomend to put on them. any help would be great! thanks again. spot on advise......... would disagree with one small point, if she does not return, get after her, scruff her and take her back to where YOU were when you called her in... Pretty simple stuff really! back to basics for me then! thanks alot for all the sensible sugestions!!

My 7mnth old patterdale bitch keeps wandering when on walks, she allways comes back, usually after about half an hour of me doing my best to loose my voice!! i was just wondering weather its best to praise her when she comes back or tell her off for being gone so long ?! shes my first "hunting" dog and maybe im just too used to the collie coming to the merest squeek!? any advice would be appreciated, and obviously "keep her on the lead" posts wont cut it!!! Thanks John

I got mine from army surplus, its re usable, just sticks to itself not the gun so no sticky residue, cost £25 which is a little steep but i think well worth it! i switch it from air rifle to shotgun all the time, when it stops sticking, whack it in the washing machine! you can get it in woodland and desert aswell.

well said ginga john, couldnt agree more, mines docked, looks lovely! not sure it was a legal dock though, wasnt given any certificate to say it was, i think they just do the tail and dew claws at birth, then the mother cleans them up ??

Brilliant ferret court jultaylor1972, given me a few ideas! ive just been asked to build a ferret court for a mate who doesnt know a screw from a paintbrush! is there any big no-no's for ferret courts or does anything go ?! ive had ferrets before but made the mistake of getting rescue ferrets (moraly good i suppose!?) but they were evil evil things, still got a few scars!

yeah steer well clear of logun, my mate got a 3LED £40 gun lamp thing and its as good as the logun, and has self contained battery! i would go with a deben tracer or something, you can get one with stock mounted battery. i dont do enough lamping to justify buying another lamp, but i wish i had never bothered with the logun!!!!

thats a beauty mate, my boss has got a left hooker one of them! the bag in the pic was 38 pigeon, 8 crows and 1 canada goose. it was bloooooody wet that day, had a groundsheet over the top of us in the hide!! *edit* shot with my miroku 12g not the weihrauch!

im forever chasing the b*stards out of the yard trying to steal scrap, cant even leave the gate open if your working out front!! and they love a chainsaw or 3 out of the toolboxes of the trucks. i think your all getting hung up on the "p***y" thing. most of them round here are just chancers grabbing anything they can take. its been a long time since ive seen real romanies, if ever. i fired a .410 at some of them as they left the gate in a hurry, left a few dents in the back of their transit! i bloody love pik-er...i mean "chancer" baiting

im 21, hunting/shooting/fishing/dog mad, my kid sister(7 and very pink and girly) has started coming out with me, and she loves it! gutted her first rabbit sat morning after a late night out lamping! mum told me off for having her out late but what are weekends for apart from recovering from a whole nights lamping on friday!? good to see so many young shots on here! keep up the good work!!
