  1. I do agree, a cross would be hardier, whippets do have thin skin.
  2. My whippet is 6 months now and rough ground was my main concern; as i live on a dairy farm and obviously the ground is rough as rats! But to be honest its really not bothered him, and believe me hes been flying everwhere. Hes obviously not worked properly yet, but i really cant see it being a problem. The working bred whippets seem to have a bit more bone about them and my dog certainly has a good set of sure feet. DG
  3. Awsome looking pair WILF, what the breeding? DG
  4. Thanks guys i'll give it a try. He just seems to want to go off with the bloody thing, so i shut all the doors to the escape routes and he comes back to me and drops it at my feet. If the doors were open he would not come to me im sure. DG
  5. Anyone know of meat suppilers that deliver to devon/cornwall. Want to bulk buy wings, tripe, lamb breast ect. Cheers DG

  7. My whippet pup is 6 months now and weve been retrieving ball and teddies and now a rabbit dummy in the house. Ive been doing this in the hallway so he has to come to me, when he gets to me he will always drop it on command. He is always asked to 'Sit'-'Stay' before retrieve. If i try the retrieve in the front room i will have to position myself infront of 'his' sofa so that again, he has to some past me. If i were anywhere else in the room i feel he would jump right on the sofa with it and ignore me. Ive tried him outside with it and he will, chase it and get it, but either walk off w
  8. Common peeps, this is a steal. Bump up for some lovely pups
  9. When you breed a litter of half cross bull grey's; isnt it a bit of a lotto as to wether you get a racey pup or a pup that has taken more to the bull? I guess it depends on what you want from your cross. For lamping i reckon 3/4 would be better as they are likely to be racier again. Each to their own though.
  10. Looks top bud....you got planning
  11. The dogs are in top condition arctic
  12. , The venison was shot in our field. It had broken back legs, god knows how it got like that. It was trying to run along on its front legs, poor thing. I was not sure if the deer was septic as the legs had broken throgh the skin, so it was butchered for dog food, lucky buggers. He does try his luck if the cat runs, but they all know shes the boss!!
  13. My dogs get between 1-2 hours walking a day. The whippet is only five and a half months though and i have often thought i was doing to much with him; but he never seems tierd and hes get fed 3 times a day on complete food and venison, rabbit, mackrel or chicken wings maybe 3 times a week. I geuss when hes older and out on the lamp 2-3 times a week aswell as his daily exercise he will muscle naturally. I personally cant see the point in over muscling a running dog; i have herd it can impead a dogs porformance. DG

  19. Interesting comment runforyourlife, Has anyone else found their saluki difficult with regards to hunting on and unwillingness to return? DG
  20. The spaniel very rarely comes in, and the whippet and jack are hosed off after a mooch if they are really dirty!! I leave them outside until they are clean. I hoover and mop 4 times a week too. Hate things being untidy. P.S ignore the shity cupboards  , were out of this house next sept!
