  3. Does not bother me at all runforyourlife, im fully aware of the pros and cons of the whippet .Im not nit picking, YOU quoted ME then gave me your reply, i just replied saying for what i wanted, a whippet has so far been fine. i did agree that you had a point and that lurcher type MAY be better in colder conditions!! I also mentioned that a whippet has a quicker turn of pace, that is comaring the differences. Its an open debate.
  4. You have a point, but i dont live or work dogs in the dales and i bet the are a good few others that dont either. I also dont ferret with the dog, i bush and will lamp. So for my needs and the conditions im in the pros of having a whippet rather than a small lurcher.....to me far out way the cons. Its horses for courses. I want the turn of pace and the heart of a whippet, it is more than capable of handling rough ground, and its has never had an injury to date. DG
  5. I think its only because they have short hair that you can see them shivering, if you look closely or feel them most dogs do this naturally, even my spaniel and collie does this. My whip is nearly seven months old and does'nt mind the cold or wind at all; but i have to say hes not fond of the rain if hes standing still, but if he out bushing/walking it does not seem to bother him.
  6. No im up for work, and bloody tiered. Where is it coming from? DG

  9. Well recently ive been out 3- 4 days a week bushing with my terrier (16 months) spaniel, and blue the whippet. When we go out the terrier and the spaniel work the thick cover very well, with the JRT giving the classic terrier "yip, yip" when hes on to something. Now blue usually stays on the outside of the hedge as hes recently lernt that fair game could pop out of the hedgerow at any moment. Hes become very focused on recent outings, ears pricked and alert, marking well, and when the JRT opens up he turns into a different dog, very determind indeed, also jumping is superb. Now we all k

  14. Just got back from a week in the forest of dean, what a lovely area. We stayed on the edge of a wood where there was plenty of black and whites, and a good few foxes. We also had red deer rutting in the field next to us at 1 am one morning; its a very eary noise. Blue has changed drastically this week, he is 6 months 1 week and had just started cocking his leg, and standing his ground with other dogs. He is hunting up big time now which became a bit annoying as there were deer and fox everywhere. His recall was good.....the terriers was not so good
  15. I reckon it would be good for the pup, learning by looking, they've got to start somewhere.
  16. Cant run fast or turn on a six pence if your built like vanessa feltz!!
  17. my dogs eat calves heads (when they are born dead) but they dont chase calves.....always a possibility i guess
  18. Hey JPT, having a whippet pup bought up with a terrier certainly teaches them not to be arse biters. I think my JRT has been invaluble in teaching my whip how to get to grips with game. By play fighting constantly the whip has become very tacktile and now knows the tricks of the trade. Had he been bought up with older dogs that dont want to play or on his own im sure he would be a very different dog, and that he would have to find out how to fight the hard way!! DG
  19. Looks like hes going to be a big strong boy sniper
