  3. do any of you guys use a pl400 for lamping ??? it looks a handy piece of kit for a few windy nights out with the lurcher but are they any good ?? don't want to buy one and regret it but I quite fancy the rechargeable one and can just slip it in my pocket ... any oppinions ???????????
  4. as big as you can manage to be honest mine is in a 8ftx12ft chamber and free lofted , I would say if you are chosing to keep your red tethered I would say you need enough space for your bird to bate but not let its wings come in contact with any of the walls within the enclosure but bigger the better so you can free loft your bird during the moult as I find it keeps a certain amount of fitness in the bird if it likes to hop about the branches I have in and uses the swing perch I have also hope this helps a bit ....
  5. so answer to your post is there is no point other than a visual point as a whippet has a nose second to none . fastest breed in the take off . very intelligent . will work till it drops and very loyal .bags of gameness and quiet as a mouse . takes up little room and very little if any grooming . less injury prone . eats less than most lurchers or full breed running dogs and have very steady natures with no known illnesses ...... just they dont get the credit they deserve because they are not macho enough for most folk
  6. [quotebut the only thing with the whippets ive been out with they cannot take the cold have a tendencie to yap and have skin like paper . . . . addingbedlington blood would sort aall of these problems out dont know what whippets you been out with but the ones i have worked and been out working with never yap unlike some beddy/whippets . yes they dont like the cold but still go out on the hill in the icey winds and do a nights or daytimes work no prob and when wet dry quicker with a quick towwel dry .. but yes the skin is quite thin and tears fairly easy but i have never in all my years h
  7. having worked both whippet and bedlingtons and beddy/whippets for many years now .. in general a whippet crossed bedlington in whatever percentage is not as quick as a pure whippet fact ... you are diluting the whippet and loosing the take off speed most off the time . you do produce a better thicker skin but when it gets wet the dog feels the cold more as the jacket is so thin and holds the water .. i can also assure you you do not need to put bedlington into a whippet for fire . a good whippet has a lot more fire and gameness than a lot of people realise , just cause they are quiet trust m

  11. why ?????? have you seen any work ??? just asking why you give this oppinion I think they will be slow first of all. I think they will be lacking intensity second of all. I also think that over time they will break down and be crippled at an early age. I really dont think they will suit you but I dont know you. seems fair when you put it like that .. i just dont want to take it on because i like them . it needs to function with the rest off the pack and do what is required
  12. why ?????? have you seen any work ??? just asking why you give this oppinion
  13. been offered a pure bred deerhound bitch just over a year old .. they are my fav breed of dog and i am tempted . however i have not seen them work and work is what i require my pack to do . i work whippets and they are great but my main quary is rabbits which i have lots of doing vermin control in my spare time .. but is a deerhound capable of doing rabbits on a regular basis on the lamp and ferreting etc .. is the breed not too tall for a rabbiting dog ? .. if anyone has any experience in the breed please share your oppinion as i am tempted but not sure regards thier capabilities

  17. thanks for the replys guys .. nice looking dog and looks strong .. i thought this cross would have had that extra speed as an airedale is a tall dog and crossed to a greyhound i thought it would have been a decent cross ... thanks guys

  19. uve just corrected me then. there dogs we are humans. diets for dogs, a think yous are just new to this game. if u mentioned dog diets to any old school hunter they would laugh in your face. a man a know races greyhounds and his dogs do realy well and a asked him what a should feed my lurcher he says dry food with brown bread and hot water. so he gets me ma bags of food from the race track and he gets it for his dog aswell. he doesnt have any dogs on diets and there top racing dogs. what happened years ago when hunters couldnt afford dog meat. a bet they skrimped and scraped anythin they could
