The chap won a pair of boots for writing about what you did. "Larsen Trap Vandalism I heard recently of the impending prosecution of a vandal in Scotland for releasing a magpie call bird from a larsen trap. With all the new rules regarding trap use, especially in Scotland, it's good to hear that these regulations work both ways. I think we should be doing more to inform people that a trap is there for a reason and must not be meddled with. We heard so much twaddle spoken by the antis and I'm sure if this had been a case of a keeper not following the new regulations it would have been

Full marks ali for bothering to report him! I had my doubts anything would happen, and I have to say that I in all likelihood would have not bothered with it. Will give it serious consideration if the situation arises! Doubt he'll be doing that again in a hurry.

If farmer has a problem with them, ie lots about the yard print a picture from this site off of one working. Don't think it'll be too hard to convince him that's what he needs, and if you are willing to build run it, he'll probably be wanting his daughter to marry you too.

I used to have a trap like this. Went by the name of maltese mouse trap. Worked very well. It had an funnel in the top of just wire going down about 2 inches which stopped mice getting back out. Is this one the same? I lent my trap a long time ago, and never got it back. Now I fancy making one up myself. ----------------- Here's a good link if you are looking for Shotguns for sale in the UK.

Use green thick garden wire. Invisible cut to length and bend the top slightly to slip into plastic.

Interesting setup, and I for one appreciate all the knowledge that snareman is sharing. This particular wire - is there a good place to get it, I presume it doesn't come double stranded?

LOOKS LIKE SNARING WILL BE BANNED

Foxgun I don't want to detract from the issue at stake here but I don't see why you and a director from SACs waste your time, and those responses must have taken a considerable time to write, attacking a poster on the forum who is trying to raise awareness and how one could go about contacting their MSP to register their discontent. If I were in a position to want to join the SACs this would seriously put me off. It's easy to talk some spiel on a forum, but at the end of the day what matters is results and if a director of SACs is so concerned with point scoring over another that they are not -

My photos from earlier in the thread seem to have disappeared. I hope they help others designing traps. re: smaller version, i had a smaller version running this year, got about 120 corvids in week of operation (bottom photo), about a third what i got in the bigger trap,(ran last year-top photo) but so many other variables difficult to say whether it was a reason or coincidence. Mostly rooks this year but think due to proportions visiting site.

Went to check my set today, and found that the bstard had bitten through the wire, I think he might have been able to do this because there was a shrub nearby he climbed on. If this happens- can you catch them again, or do I need a new method of attack?

Set two myself last night, using traditional method. Neither tripped- I suspect they were set to heavy, have them now on a hair, fingers crossed for tonight. Teejay I can't work out your trigger- could you describe it or photo it closer? Just had a closer look seems to be the nail set.

I've seen a couple of rats outside my flat, and think it would be good fun to try and spring snare the b*****ds, know where their run is too .

I once caught a wren in a larsen, god only knows how it managed to fire the trap?!

'Noose Poles' / Animal Graspers ~ How Do We Make Them?
daunker replied to a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Why not use snare wire for the noose - much better than just string. Make a loop on one end and have prefered rope/string for kleating/wrapping up tied to it. oops just seen already been said above... -
In the north of ireland. It was fairly easy for me they were tearing open bags and feeding on calf pellets (you can see bags in background). Simply found open bags and put them in middle, built four side sections, put just one of the top sections on, left it a day and knew they were dropping in so put on the other top section. Caught 96 in the first few hours, emptied it leaving a dozen and caught another that afternoon, then two days of about 60-70 and after that it just dried up I was only catching one or two a day so I packed it up. You wouldn't know that I'd done that to the jackdaw p

they're absolutely deadly on jackdaws. I took about 300 and a dozen rooks, over 4 days in this one below which I cobbled up. Mine didn't even have a ladder- just a gap between the two sections at top.

Cheers Mick, think i'm on the right tracks now.

Have any of you made your own incubator, any ideas on a heater which is good for keeping temperature at 37.5. Hoping to do it on the cheap. cheers

Cheers nightwalker for the advice- that's just what I thought i'd do, have some old sections lying about. Just wanted some confirmation. The other suggestions sound like the book, danny the champion of the world!!

Hi mate, it's for a research project (behaviour) in corvids, I took some from nests, but have had some fatalities, and I need some replacements. Obviously the birds have branched already, so can't climb for them again. Especially need the young birds so they settle. Need about 10.

Hi I need to capture some rooks - they must be alive when caught (and well). Would a ladder trap work for them? Or would any of you have any sensible suggestions for getting them. I only need a small number to be caught. It's for part of a project. cheers,d.
