The folks here in the US which I know that hunt regularly don't hunt with dogs like PB's. The only time I'll plead with my dog to get out of the hole is if it's on skunk. I've only had one out of three that will do that. She's the bayer of the bunch.

First day we found just a possum and skunk. We used the possum to school a young pup, it was a good spot for that. Saturday we walked for miles it seems and only found a 12 ft earth with a dog in for about an hour before coming out, never getting up to anything. Sunday we visited a farm we haven't been all summer, it made up for the day before. The farmer said a huge brushpile was busy with quarry so we put a dog in and he was soon working a raccoon. Met up with a couple of friends and headed out to check a new farm and visit an old one. First stop was the dairy, we had no luck in the fields so we headed to an outbuilding behind this old house. Tyke wasted no time finding something good. We found a sandbag in his way which was left by the farmer. Tyke worked a very tight tube but couldn't get far. I looked over the other side of the feed bin and saw a very small groundhog stick it's head out. We quickly decided to leave this place alone and let the young ones be until next time. Talked to the wife just a moment ago and Kye is still here, LOL. No tornadoes near them. They got rid of their long distance, too expensive for how often they were using. No answering machine set up, but she will tell him to call you soon. Regards Wooly

I've got no problem with that thought process. Remember possums sull up and play dead when provoked. Some give a fight, some don't. So if it's not fighting back and the terrier drags it out, where's the damage going to come from? Then they are easily pulled out without much a fight. The bitch was young and her first time in the ground. Lots of variables involved with possums, Is this more to your liking?

There's British blood in all of them over here, LOL I don't look much into pedigrees, what I do know is his parents work, grandparents, etc. Here's the UK portion of what's behind the dog in the last picture, 4 generations back Foxwarren, Meynell, Queslett, Beacon, Savermake Yes, possums bite back, but not as bad as raccoon and groundhogs

We had a really nice day yesterday with great weather. We met up for breakfast then headed out. My friend’s new little 7 mo old bitch looks like she'll be a nice little dog for our areas. She's replacing a bitch she just lost at the young age of 6, who sure is missed. We located a possum on a hillside. I made the mistake of dispatching with a pistol in one hand and my little bitch under my other arm. She's now shy of them but not to the point of running off, just keeping her distance. It was away from the dig (quarry had bolted) so she doesn't connect going to ground with the handgun. I've seen plenty of russells that it doesn't bother at pretty close range Wooly

Out for a couple of days of hunting fri/sat . Weather right now is 20f and very windy. The ground is pretty frozen, less than a 6" frost line though. Friday was a short afternoon out, this bitch worked a raccoon for well over an hour while we dug thru frost and roots. Some possums give a fight, some "faint" and play dead (Playing Possum is the term here in the States) This possum was full of himself and there was quite some scrapulation going on while we dug. We opened to Tyke having a lock on the side of his head. The possum never fainted and continued to fight even after we broke Tyke off. We let him go for another day after checking his jaw was not broken, releasing some of our quarry when possible. Possums tend to be good quarry for new or young dogs. In this case he was too agitated to let the 8 mo old pup have a close look. That's why w

Although I haven't used it, I've heard good things about the LRT over the Mk3. The collar is made much better and waterproof this time. The only downside I've heard is the noise from the receiver, can be pretty annoying. I've seen the B&F and used it once. I'm still using the original Deben collars, when those fail me in a few years I'll probably try the LRT. I sure would like to hear anyones opinions on the two systems compared. (LRT vs B&F) I like the LRT collar better than the B&F. Although I've heard plenty of small dogs use the B&F with no problems at all in the -

Out all day saturday with friends and finally found something. Tyke did a good job, we thought he had a raccoon from the growling we heard while digging. We broke him off of what turned out to be a very nasty possum. Then my friend's 8 mo old dog pup had a look behind the shovel. Sure was funny after we left that spot, he was obsessed with the shovel.
