I know guys who come south from the north/east maybe twice a month during the winter season to hunt as they CANNOT get the large number of runs in that area of the country they can get down here But this is only on larger quarry,the last time they came down pre-ban the weekend haul was 5 fox and four fallow.Not saying that number cant be taken in the north,just saying I never saw ground up there that equalled certain areas "Down south".
  2. Spot on David Travel around the east of afghanistan bordering the Khyber,NWFP,or northern pakistan area and ginger hair,light brown hair,green eyes,even blue eyes arent a rarity.

Been away for a while,sent someone a DVD last december before I went,got back 12 days ago and the DVD was returned the middle of Jan'ish,DVD is the lurcher/poacher one that was on flea-bay for £25 (not worth it but there ya go) I felt guilty when I found it in the mail pile as the guy I sent it to had been decent enough to send me something which actually arrived If your reading this P&G theres even the delivery number I gave you in a PM,will PM you again,and try to send it once more

I have the mailing addie of the french importers into europe of COLDSTEELS bigbore blowguns,they sell a range of darts including mini-broadheads,I was going to order my son one for Xmas when I found out that yes indeed,they are now classed as firearms My old one killed rats at ranges of up to 8-10 yards easily enough,and I have seen bamboo ones used in Borneo which were effective at longer distances,but the bamboo darts were approx 8-10 inches long No one bothered back then David,I still remember walking past Hector Mouldens garden as a kid when he told me to get my BSA meteor from it

  12. Had a 100 yarder with a leadline footrope,weighed a ton,ended up with a forearm like Arnie after a season.Eventually used the leadline for a gill-net and fitted a normal footrope to the Longnet

I know what you mean about high altitude and thin air,I have suffered mild altitude sickness several times due to not acclimatizing.Your trip sounds fantastic,it will certainly be an eye opener . I will be at the wifes office Xmas party this coming saturday(plenty to eat and a five star hotel thrown in by her company)one of her colleagues has a husband who works as a petrochemical engineer,I am sure he has worked in the region,will see if he has any info on Almaty

I stayed on the Chinese side of the Tien Shan mate en route to the Mongolian side of the Altai.The people on the Xinjiang side are Uigurs,excellent people,and yes,I did stay in native tents when upcountry,they are nomadic people living in round felt,canvas tents called yurts,reminded me of camping in Weardale as a kid Never saw Taigans when I was there,saw big herd guarding mongrels though.Taigans are used for Marmots,hares and fox right?

  23. Been right on the border mate,Urumqi and Xinjiang,get yourself up into the Tien Shan awesome mountains although Almaty is in the foothills of the Alatua range.Try drinking Kumiss . Theres an economic boom there at the moment,oil and gas,maybe thats pushed accommodation prices up as migrant workers flood in?
