  1. Absolutely right waidmann ...... don't think any of the farmers I know would be happy with Jonny's comment (no offence Jonny).
  2. Difficult question to answer......how long is a piece of string? Easier to say how much is the most you are prepared to spend (including cost of additional laser ir illuminator), as this will help narrow down the models you can choose. Good gen 1 with laser IR I hear will do 100 yards and gen 2 does it no problem at all. In my opinion I would say Gen 1 is best suited to ratting and rabbiting wheras Gen 2 plus can do this and more ie foxes (you may need to watch the fox out at 200-300yards) and then wait for it to come in to 100 yards, I doubt you could do that with Gen 1 stuff.
  3. Are you sure it was a chopper? Maybe you were abducted by aliens .
  4. I got a phonce call from the firearms dept this morning to say my variation was ready to be collected, luckily I was on my day off, I had planned to head out with the shotgun but the rain was hammering down so instead I headed straight over to collect it and then headed straight over to Neil at Pro Shooting Supplies . I had a look at the T3 Lites but I preferred the feel and build quality of the Steyr Mannlicher Pro Hunter, so thats what I bought + wildcat mod. (Thanks for all the advice guys anyway....only time will tell whether I made the right choice). Shame I am working all weekend so w
  5. I suppose it depends what you are going to be shooting as to what gage you need, ie a 410 in my opinion is a waste for pigeon shooting but great for ratting. I ain't no technical expert but moderators work most effectively if they are used in conjunction with sub-sonic ammo that travels at less than the speed of sound ie 350 meters per second (1,148 ft/s). This equates to 1,270 kilometers per hour (789 mph), or about one kilometer in three seconds and about one mile in five seconds. I used 32gram hushpower subs in my 12 bore.
  6. I will buy it from you !!! EMPTY YOUR INBOX YOU CANT GET MESSAGES You can just borrow it for 72hrs anytime you want.
  7. YOU ARE SO KIND !!! Its most likely one thats came over from the chicken farm, that you have missed it will be a good night for you though you might learn a few tricks. LOL Probablly right....there are none left on the chicken farm cos I shot them all
  8. We had the same situation at the chicken farm last week, Jamie twisted his ankle trying to get through the bog and we had to give up in the end! No problem with the NV I will clear up your loose ends lol!
  9. The nosie reduction is major as long as you use subsonic cartridges. I have a 12 bore baikal hushpower, can't say I use it much as it is a single barrel which is the size of a scaffold pole lol! Always good to show your mates though.
  10. If you are getting it for nowt then go for it, it will do the job! Most foxes are shot at under 150 yards anyway. Let us know how you get on. Put the money you save towards your reloading equipment.
  11. I have done but I don't find it really worthwhile and I get fed up wiping the scope lens too.
  12. Interesting fact, that must be why Pykies don't wash their clothes.....
  13. where are you looking bud? a rough location may help LOL
  14. I am just waiting on getting my variation back for a 6.5 x 55 and was originally thinking of going for a Tikka T3 Lite, however I was speaking to a gun dealer who reckoned for the extra few hundred quid I would be better going for a Mannlicher Pro Hunter Mk2 stainless steel which with a Wildcat mod on and scope rails I could get for £1240, what are your thoughts people?
  15. I decided the same that if it is worth doing it is worth doing properly and dug deep and bought a ATN Trident Pro 6x Gen 2+ from Night Vision Gear , if you lived a bit closer I would have said come and have alook throught it! Hope this helps.
  16. Headed down to one of the farms last night where the farmer has not had anyone doing his foxes for a while so there are plenty going about and given that they have started lambing he needs the foxes thinned out as much a s possible. We arrived just after 9pm and headed out on foot to one of the fields to put some bait out. As we got to the field we were going to bait my mate scanned the field using the NV and spotted a fox already in the field a couple of hundred yards out. He started to call it in, it was very hesitant at first but gradually curiosity was getting to it and it started to
  17. At what kind of distances are you expecting to shoot the fox? Are you using it to spot foxes also or are you using a lamp to do the spotting?
  18. Yep, that was the vixen! Approx 50 yards away when it was shot.
  19. Yes mate we use NV pretty much all the time. Quite often we use the lamp to spot them and then switch it off as soon as we see them and use the NV. Last night we knew the foxes would come to the bait so we didn't need the lamp.
  20. Went down to the new permission again tonight and put out some liver that had been sitting in my car for a week (still sealed I may add!). It didn't take long before we spotted Charlie coming across the field ready for a free meal. As soon as it got to the bait we nailed it. It was a hefty dog fox, we dragged it back to the car and went back to sit tight to see if anything else would appear....and it did this time a healthy looking vixen that was still pregnant! We did go for a mooch about and ashamed to say it missed another one ! Not bad a bad start though.
