    When I was out stalking this morning I spotted this fox about a 150yds away at the side of a wood. Lucklily for the fox I was not on my own ground and I hadn't been given the nod to shoot foxes on my mates ground so for a rare change I put my rifle down and decided to call it in to see how close I could get it and take a picture. I reckon it was less than 8ft away :

    What distance are you looking to spot game? I would recommend attaching a good laser IR to it as the onboard optical IR is very limited in range realistically. With my laser IR attached I can pick out a fox at 300 yards without any real problem, and up to 400 yards in best conditions.

    Highly likely that after April 2014 it will become compulsory in Scotland : Under the Wildlife and Natural Environment Bill 2011 section 17a specifies that the Governement can bring in a register of people competent to shoot deer. In addition SNH by 1st April 2014 must conduct a review of the competency of the people who shoot deer and this will be used to decide whether the register will be brought into being.     I have the laminated 1500 in stainless varmint. A bit heavy for walking about with but apart from that it is a cracking rifle, will shoot more accurately than I will, has a nice smooth bolt action and has accounted for plenty of foxes over the last couple of years :

    ...I think a big part of the problem is people the politicians start of with the best of intent to improve the UK, but to stay in their job they end up conforming and get used to the easy money/job benefits and very quickly all their ideals go out of the window and it becomes about doing and saying whatever it takes to stay in their position of authority......sad but true.
