  8. Started off the evening by going to put the rifles in the back of the pickup and opened up the boot and was met by the putrid smell    of the rabbits Jamie had shot last week .I thought he had taken home for his ferrets .:realmad: :realmad: :realmad: Anyway at least that meant we would have some bait for later on As we headed down to the farm it started raining which put a downer on things straight away as this was going to limit our driving due to the very hilly terrain (note to self ...... get rid of shit ATs and get some Mud tyres ). 10. My advice is invite a couple of people to come along to your permission and let you have ago with various calibres and see what you like the best.. I would say most foxes are shot at distances less than 150 yards anyway. If you are trying to shoot cheaply than the smaller calibres are more cost effective. I chose the 22-250 because in my opinion it is very flat shooting upto 300 yards. Just aim at the top of the shoulder on any fox upto 300 yards and you should hit em all ! But each to his own, the .243 is definitely versatile and worth considering.

  12. It was that time of month when I do my bit to help out the elderly , so I headed out with Jimmy for a mooch about and we went and had a look at one of his new permissions. No sooner than we were on the track down to this small farm the lamp picked up a set of eyes so we got into position and let the 6.5x55 do the rest and down it went without a twitch: It was a decent sized dog fox. After that we headed to the chicken farm and did spot a couple of foxes which we spent a good half hour playing cat and mouse trying to anticipate where they were heading and eventually when we di

  14. I imagine the farmer/landowner is just trying to discourage you from being on his land, most farmers realise the repercussions of shooting a dog would cause him more problems in the long run as it would be in the papers, and then the public persecution would set it, so he would lose in the long-term. I know of a farmer locally that did shoot a dog and he would tell you now that he does regret it, he has had his house and car windows put in quite a number of times so I hear. However you should also see it from his point of view and maybe give his land a wide berth for a while....... what i
