    yeah the .243 is legal on both sides of the border but i still thought the legal requirement for deer in England was 2000+ energy? well after about 125m wouldnt't the bullet be carrying less than 2000 joules and thus be below the legal reqirement?(please correct me if im wrong, im still figuring things out a bit) with only head showing that sounds like one hell of a spot aswell mate Alex

    their all i use on clays and rough shooting. just what you want.. you can hear whats going on around etc and it just cuts out the harmful noise, they also fold up to put in your pocket Alex

    totally agree, that sounds like an amazing and very ballsy shot. i remember seeing on a previous thread that he's got a hunter lite in .243 so maybe it was just taking advantage of the difference in laws up there as it would still be illegal in England. again no critisism mate, should be sniper...     yeah go for a 20 mate, easy on the shoulder and big enough spead for you to get into em rabbits. i started on clays at 11 and some b*****d slipped a 34g cartridge into a 12 i was trying ... my shoulder was all blue and it made me flinch for a while after he missed some holiday time though because i b**ch slapped him into next week so yeah stick to the 20 with 21-24g for the moment mate Alex

    can i ask what your planning to use it for? and what extra paper work would you need other than a SGC? i know the huntsmen used to use them to shoot foxes once they went to ground but that would probably make it harder to get one now right? Alex

    if you've only got 20 acres to work with / if you can't afford for the bullets to stray off you permission i'de go for the .17HMR Pros: flatter trajectory than the .22LR (flat out to 100m), more predictable because it fragments on impact unlike the .22LR rounds and is less likely to rebound Cons: It's louder than the .22LR and the bullets run at a slightly higher price The sako quad is a very accurate rifle with a good crisp trigger pull and is worth spendng the money on in my opinion hope this helps ALex

    Check out the BASC website - should awnser most of your questions there and i would suggest joining aswell as for the catapult i used to have one a few years ago, great fun for squirrels etc but not as prficcient as the likes of an air rifle, rimfire rifle, lurcher or ferrets and nets if your pretty skilled with it and enjoy using it then there's no need to change as long if your not in it for big bags because its perfectly legal... each man to their own Alex

    could be using the wrong bullets mate you'll want a frangible hunting grade bullet with a ballistic tip - fast and flat flying causing as much damage as possible you don't want it mushrooming like a softpoint because it's got to have a wide wound and there's no carcass damage to worry about as the target of the neck is smaller than that of the heart this type of bullet gives you a wider margin of error an inaccurately placed neck shot is more likely to result in a clean kill because the bullet will shatter on impact sending fragments into surrounding vital areas such as the spinal
