  1. Well the TX 200 is very accurate and the latest version looks very good with its checkered stock. It is heavy, over 10lbs with a scope as is the pro elite. The pro elite was designed to do about 20 ft/lbs so unless you have a firearms cert you would need to have it tuned down to 12 which isn't what it was designed for. Its an older gun and Air Arms are constantly improving things so I would go with the newer TX 200.
  2. Don't want to disappoint you but I don't think it will be worth a lot so you might as well use it if you want too.
  3. Well I don't know of anyone who uses a CO2 rifle for hunting. They aren't usually very powerful, remember a 12 ft/lb rifle leaves little room for error when shooting live quarry, though lower powered guns are useful for farm yard shooting. Also CO2 guns can loose accuracy in cold or hot temperatures. I would get something else. Tweaking it is a job for a gun smith, gun manufactures put a lot of time into designing guns and tend to know best. Also although the gun was cheap to buy once you have bought tuning upgrades, (if you can find them)its no cheaper than buying a good gun to begin with. If
  4. TX 200 or HW97? Well both are heavy around about 9lbs. Both are very accurate. Both look good in my opinion. Both about the same price. But having used both I would go for the Weihrauch if I wanted it for hunting. Why? because it was faster for me to load. The airarms has a bear trap mecanism that has to be pushed down before you can cock it which slows things down.
  5. Depends. Do you want to shoot live quarry? If so you must be able to kill it first shot every time. Never shoot if you aren't sure of a kill. You need to practice and practice some more. Before you shoot any live quarry you must be a good shot. If your gun isn't very powerful then your range will be shorter. Always shoot safely. There are some good books on the subject of air rifle hunting. I can recomend "Air Rifle Hunting by John Darling".
  6. I have been told you should never fire a rifle into water as the bullet hits the water so hard it ricochets but I don't know if an air rifle pellet would be going fast enough? Just something to watch out for.
  7. Thanks for the advice. Shes a bright enough dog, will let you know how I get on.
  8. Hi I once had the same problem. The gun was shooting too high. I put a layer of insulating tape on the inside of the bottom back ring of the scope mount and another on the inside of the top front ring. Did the job.
  9. Don't really understand the question. Do you want a side lever spring powered rifle or a PCP? There aren't many side lever spring powered rifles. I don't think there are any really modern ones, as in still made. There's the Webley tracker which is a low powered side lever. I have one and its ok for rats but I don't use it for rabbits or pigeons. There's the old air arms side levers like the Jackal, my father had one the air arms Camargue. Said it wasn't very accurate but this may have been due to the lack of choice regarding ammo. If you want something that looks similar ie (synthetic stocked
  10. Glad to hear it, thanks a lot, that's really encouraged me.
  11. I have a black Labrador bitch that is three years old. She was bought as a pet and had only basic obedience. House training, her name, sit, stay ect. Recently I have started taking her beating and she has behaved ok. I am training her to hunt game, retrieve dead birds and wounded and I think she is making some progress. But someone told me I was wasting my time training an older dog and that I should start from scratch with a pup. I'm not going to get another dog but can you teach on older dog properly or am I wasting my time?
  12. I'm happy with three or four, which is just aswell really! Most ever is 6. Out of interest what do you do with a hundred odd rabbits do you sell them to a game dealer or what?
  13. I manage without. Can't afford a finder though they are definitely a good idea. If a ferret stays down give it plenty of time. If you have to go away without it (fortunately this has never happened to me) then set a baited live catch trap for it and come back in the morning. Watch out with second hand finders, "second hand" can mean "broken".
  14. I think any form of licensing wouldn't solve the problem. People who do stupid things with air guns can generally fill in forms as well as the rest of us and a license might come with more age restrictions making it even harder for young people to get into the sport.
  15. Would go with the Weihrauch myself but you wont go far wrong with either.
  16. Signed. This is important everyone! I am a Scot but I think all air gunners in the UK should sign, if air guns are banned in Scotland then antis will say air guns should be banned all over the UK. It would be the beginning of the end for air gunning.
  17. An air arms TX 200 doesn't recoil very much but with a scope it weighs about 10lb, same with HW 77. Both great guns but heavy. If you want a lighter spring gun theres plenty to choose from. BSA lightening or supersport or one of the lighter weihrauch's like the HW57 or 95. All of witch can be bought for well under 400 quid. A PCP will probly cost more and you have to buy a pump.
  18. Hi all, the stock on my Weihrauch looks a bit tatty what with barbed wire rocks ect and I was thinking I would refinish the stock. The plan is to remove the stock and coat with paint stripper, then remove all the varnish with wire wool. Stain it a nice dark colour. After that I will rub in linseed oil once a day for a week or so until it looks ok. I want it to have a matt finish instead of shinny scratched varnish. Does this sound ok or would you do it differently? Has anybody ever done this? (I saw a Weihrauch HW 95 on this forum somewhere that someone had done something similar with.)
  19. Mince is ok if not fed to often as is chicken. But cheap chickens are fed hormones that make them huge and infertile which is why I only feed my ferrets home grown chicken from my hen house and not shop bought. Free range would be ok but too expensive. Don't worry about lead shot. Ferrets pick it out and even if they do swallow a bit it will pass through them and come out at the other end.
  20. My black Labrador bitch is 2 and a bit years old and due to my being away hasn't had any training apart form basic obedience and she has been taught not to chase my chickens. She always ignores them completely. I have taken her beating a few times recently and tried to get her to pick up shot game after drives but she wont pick up shot pheasants or partridge. I think she thinks they are chickens and that shes not to touch them? Do you think this is the problem? What can I do about it?
  21. Sorry to hear that. I will try to keep wild rabbits away from them to prevent the spread of myxi. Also will give them flea powder regularly. I live in a fairly remote part of Scotland and the local pet shop only has English or Dutch rabbits. Does any body have any experience with these? Cheers.
